True, maybe we could even say there were eight, but just let the poor, unofficial member take his gang-bang and go! We all jumped him pretty good...

Graphics do have its use. The first thing you see in a game is the graphics. It gives you the first impression, and it will be one of the deciding factors on whether you'll continue playing the game or not.
Now, don't tell me "Nobody but idiots care about the graphics." and "I still play my NES." I know why people still play old, classics games. First, most of those people have played the games in the past, and replaying them give them some sort of memories.
Also, replaying old games is a lot different from playing new game. You know about the old games (either the plot or the gameplay is good), therefore you can withstand the graphics. And you know that it is an old game.
For new games, however... if a new game doesn't have good graphics, it will lose my attention. I might go back to it after awhile, and see if there are reasons why I should play the game.
Spectral Souls by ideal factory for example, I didn't touch it after I've beaten the first 2 levels. The graphics are below my standard, but I've played Generation of Chaos 3 and Cardinal Arc, both by Ideal Factory and have similar graphics. Why? Because there are other elements that get my attention.
There are games such as FFX2 which I won't care about the graphics... I mean, go to hell. The intro movie totally killed me.
And there are games such as OniMusha 3 which has a completely amazing intro movie plus great graphics. Those really drag you into playing the game non-stop. (OniMusha 3 is great from any aspect)
The graphics are not something that "only idiots care about." It is one thing to judge games solely on the visuals, and it is another thing to have some sort of standard on graphics. It is why most of the companies try to improve the graphics, so it would catch people's attentions. (Not just to catch idiots' attentions)

That doesn't really apply to me, since I'm play old games even though I've really only been playing video games since 1999.
I'm sure it applies to most people though.

There are lots of other reasons why people can stand "Old games." People can easily tolerate the graphics quality in old games, simply because they are... old.
But if a company releases a NEW game, and with crappy graphics, it will be hard for it to sell. Why? Because graphics do matter.
Take fighting game for an example... SNK vs. Capcom: Chaos. That game is a piece of junk because it has crappy graphics. It reuses old sprites from KoF 94-95, and now it is in the year 2004.
And Samurai Spirits Zero isn't really that great, because the graphics didn't improve. Sure, they kept the characters... and added some new one, but the graphics is the same as Samurai Spirits 4 which was released years ago.
The gameplay stays the same, and Samurai Spirits 4 is possbily my favourite 2D fighting game, but if the graphics show no improvement after years...

On the contrary, there is a difference between "outdated" and "crap". "Bad" graphics transcend eras. Take Metal Gear Solid, for example. Here's what you do: play Twin Snakes for an hour, then boot up that old PS1 game. You think those graphics suck, don't you? Well, for the time, they were mindblowing.

That's the same as replaying old games, and it's easily toleratible.

then boot up that old PS1 game ...that's what you said, old PS1 game. Since it is an old game, people can easily live with the graphics. The same way why I could play Castlevania 1 and Ghouls and Ghosts without any complaint. Graphics is not a concern with old games at all. When you replay a game, you don't mind much about the graphics.
