I think the "sword" was suppose to look the same for every game's logo. It's almost like a mascot of sorts. Even though it was not in the Thracia 776 logo, you can see the offical artwork and Leaf was holding the same sword. It was FE6 that changed it.

Actually Leif's Hikari no Tsurugi has a different design, the hilt/handle is different.
