Most of these questions were covered in Bakura's Forum Rules at the top of this forum.
Q: What is a FESSer General?
A: A FESSer General is a Global Moderator. They are here to make sure that all the rules of the forum are being followed. At different boards they have different powers, but here, they can delete spam posts, move topics, and for extreme cases, ban accounts and/or accounts.
Q: How do I become a FESSer General?
A: The Admins of the board (Terranigma Freak and Captamzai) appoint moderators as they need more. Basically, you need to have a history of good posts, good grammar, strong knowledge of all the site's target content (that means ALL the Fire Emblem games), and to have been here a while. If you ask to become a moderator, you very likely will be told no.
Q: How do I change my avatar/that picture below my name?
A: You can go to your profile (by clicking the "profile" tab at the top of the page) and pick one of the other avatars. They are currently all Three Kingdoms avatars, with the exception of Darkwing Duck. If you have a picture off the site that you want to use, it first has to be hosted on another site. From there, you right click the picture, go to properties, and copy the picture's URL. Then, go to your profile, click the "I have my own picture" tab, and paste the URL. Just make sure that you are linking from a site that allows direct linking.
Q: What about those cool sprite thingies? How do I get one/make one?
A: There are plenty of sprites in the Comments/Requests board. Just make sure you credit the creator of any sprites that you use. As for making your own, Lord Ryu Li, SwordsAreShiney and BobtheTomato are the experts there, but basically, you screen capture the ROM after every frame (ctrl-n advances one frame on Visual Boy Advance), cut around the sprites that you want, put them to a black background, and animate them.
Q: Why doesn't this site have ranks anymore?
A: People kept spamming the board and making worthless posts in their effort of getting a higher rank. That is why the only ranks now below Admin and Moderator is just "FESSer".
Q: I just made a post I'd like to correct. Do I make another post to correct this?
A: No. You are allowed to modify your posts by clicking the "modify" button in the upper right hand corner of your post. Generally, we don't like double posts here.
Q: I played Super Smash Bros. Melee, and I learned about Marth and Roy from there. Where are they in the English Fire Emblem?
A: They are not in the English Fire Emblem. Marth is the main character in the Original Fire Emblem, and in Fire Emblem 3: Monshou no Nazo. Roy is the main character in Fire Emblem 6: Sealed Sword. He is the son of Eliwood, the main character of Fire Emblem 7: Blazing Sword.
Q: Where do I get the Fire Emblem ROM?
A: We do not tolerate ROM requests on this board. If you want to ask people for places to get ROMs, please go to Romuniverse's forums. These forums don't have direct downloads, but you can ask them where to get what you're looking for. I stress this: DO NOT ASK US FOR ROMS! If you do, you are at the mercy of Terranigma Freak and the moderators.
Q: I know a place to get a whole bunch of cool roms. Can I post it here?
A: No. We do not provide ROM links here, and I only put the link to Romuniverse because it's another forum, not a direct download site.
Q: What happens if someone spams the board?
A: Those posts will get deleted. kyuusei is very good at this. Also, if you're constantly spamming the board, you run the risk of being banned.
Q: What does "banned" mean?
A: It means you can not access the board, period. Your IP is banned, and your account is deleted.
Q: What IS allowed here?
A: Other than what I've put up already, this is a very leinient board. Swearing is allowed in moderation. Just remember that some people access these boards from places where curse words are not allowed. Basically, talk like you would around good friends. That doesn't mean you should use the "f" word every other word. I'm the biggest curser on the site, so if it offends me, you should tone it down.
Q: How do I get pics to show up in my sig?
A: Use the following code: [ img ] url of your pic [ /img ]. Just take out the spaces (I had to put them in for the code to show up) and replace the "url of your pic" with the actual URL. Like with custom avatars, they need to be hosted on another site. (Credit to Lord Ryu Li)
Q: What is a "patch"?
A: A patch allows modifications to be put into an original ROM. Most commonly, this is so that Japaniese games can be played in English, or any other language.
Q: Where would I find a patch of a game that I already own?
A: Zophar's Domain had just about any kind of translation patch there is - if it exists, they have it. Just make sure to run your anti-spyware programs afterwards. The only patches out for Fire Emblem games at this time are for Fire Emblem Gaiden (NES), Fire Emblem Monshou no Nazo, and Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War (both SNES).
Q: How do I get a patch to work?
A: After downloading the patch, extract it from it's zip to the same folder that has the actual ROM. Patches have a .ips extension. You need to make sure the name of the patch is EXACTLY THE SAME as the name of the ROM. An example would be this:
ROM=Fire_Emblem_4.smc
PATCH MUST BE=Fire_Emblem_4.ips
Q: What's with that chick Lucius from FE7? That's a male name, isn't it?
A: That's because Lucius is a male. I repeat: LUCIUS IS A MALE.
Q: Where can I find a translation patch for Sealed Sword (aka: Fire Emblem 6 on GBA)?
A: There is no patch for FE6. All the patches that are out, I've documented above.
If anymore questions come to mind, I will modify this post.
TF or any of the mods, please feel free to sticky this.
