Latin as a language is associated with ancient Rome, which is long dead. (As is the language.) But plenty of modern languages have their roots in Latin, which I'm fairly sure is what TheEnd meant.

That's right. Maybe I was not clear enough, but my study of Latin was to improve my Portuguese. In fact, though, I'd say that a fair number of occidental modern languages have latin roots... but they aren't that many, if you think about it. Portuguese, Italian, Spanish and French are the only ones that come to my mind (although English has a incredible load of latin-based vocabulary, it's grammar is very different)...

ah so u are of porteguese descent. Portuguese, indian and african, to be more exact. The majority of brazilians isn't of 'pure breed'. Just a curiousity.

By indian, I mean native american, btw. Not somebody from India. I just remembered that we have that distinction in Portuguese (índios/indianos), but it isn't seen in English.
