Fimbulvetr. God I hate that name.
I always thought ice should be the same element as water, except uh.... there seems to be no water element. :P (Insert gripe about Final Fantasy elements here.) But when you look at Finbur, it does make sense... although Gigas Calibur is more wind-y than any spell.

But when you look at Finbur, it does make sense... although Gigas Calibur is more wind-y than any spell. I coincide with your views on Finbur's translation, it just sounds so pointless but I guess they were trying to make it sound more mythical...>_> And Water just wouldn't work as there never has been one plus its really cheesy, I think Ice has been around as just a compensation for Water. Quite frankly I can't stand all these peaceful advanced or great or holy ancient water civilisations associated its just so cheesy and I always hated water levels in games. (May I express I hated Mercury Lighthouse in Golden Sun it was so standard water stuff) Also all the wind spells in the series have always ended with Calibur and it does sound really windy....Aircalibur, Gigascalibur, Grafcalibur, Excalibur. That or the Sword Of Seals has a built in flamethrower. Seriously though I don't think Ice should be listed as an element of it's own. There's no ice element, it's part of green and should be considered the same as wind. Don't forget when you use the Finbur(I can't remember NOA's made up German word for this spell) you see a whirlwind in the spell as well. Think of it this way, the icy cold wind freezes the air around your enemies and shaping the iciles into sharp blades to cut the enemy. The comes first so I say it's still a wind spell. I agree on that since Finbur seems nothing more than a compromise between Blizzard and Tornado spells from FE4/5. But since they did give it a own personal element we still have to regard it as one.

Grafcalibur... which was that from? And how does it look compared to, say, Air Calibur and Gigas Calibur?
Finbur seems to be more ice than wind, because if it was more wind, it'd do extra damage to dragon and pegasus knights. (Or can it? I've never tried.) And it looks neat... I was glad you could actually USE it in FE7, since in FE6 the only way you could was to unlock Brunya for the trial maps.

Kyuusei you beat me to it ;D ;D It doesn't do extra to Dragons. Have you seen the Wind Sword' attack? I think the attack is what the Sword Of Seal would look like if Lyn used it. If the blue dot was went to be wind I think it would green like the wind symble.

The Wind Sword's long-range looks like Gigas Calibur, maybe a bit smaller. Or not. It looks awsome though, I just hope I don't use it up too soon. ^^;
I think the blue dot in the Anima affinity is meant to be water/ice though. People are more likely to think of water and ice when they see blue rather than Wind. Or so I think. ;)

Grafcalibur... which was that from? And how does it look compared to, say, Air Calibur and Gigas Calibur? Well we just think Finbur is more based off Blizzard from FE5 since that spell was counted as a wind spell despite being Ice except Blizzard could also put people to sleep. And judge for yourself what Grafcalibur looks like (sorry for the changing name right at the end, I accidently mixed a Wind screen with the Grafcalibur screen.)

Blizzard can put people to sleep? Heh.... interesting. Grafcalibur looks even bigger than Gigas Calibur. :P

Well if you don't count the dummied weapons Grafcalibur was the first game to break the 30% critical rate barrier. Grafcalibur had 40 for critical rate.

Grafcalibur is superior to Gigascalibur in every way, animation, critical rate (still one of the highest in FE series), lighter, 60 uses.

You're not the only one, I always end up using the Repair staff on it as well. Its annoying since you're stuck with only Fire and Grafcalibur until you can steal a Wind or Thunder book later on.

I disagree with the animation, I like Gigascalibur better, and you're also wrong about the usage. Grafcalibur has only 40 uses(Stop wasting the damn spell on those prison guards Asvel!).
