Swordfighters/Myrmidons really low skill and speed caps?
Like my Rutger usually maxes out at 20 for skill and speed around Lvl. 14 now compare that to theives they have the exact same stat caps for skill and speed -.- They just max out speed and skill far too quickly than you spend a good 6-8 levels just watching wasted experience as they get absolutely nothing except maybe some hp, strength or def or res every so often...
Now my question is do you think its better to promote Swordfighters earlier because of this or waste time and experience watching them gain near nothing for a good 6-8 levels? I mean its obvious they'll be better in the long run having those 1-2 extra def/strength/res but seriously if we're talking about practicality is it practical to wait around for them to get to level 20? Especially considering the very high promotion bonuses FE6's system gives?

Actually I know what you mean but I still stick to reaching 20 before promoting. Those occasional 1or 2 def/res/anything ups could mean life or death sometimes...

Its just the way they've been made in FE6 its just really pointless to wait....
With that 30 critical bonus and 40 critical Katana and the high promotion bonuses you're looking at a unit with 70-80 critical base not including the high skill and in Fil's case luck thats built for first hit kills so it just seems sorta pointless to have def, they're rarely hit and kill with the first hit. I mean in Fil's case you easily get her at over 80-90 critical when her luck and skill has picked up.

I guess so but I'm a perfectionist so it hurts me to promote them before reaching 20...
Later on in the game the extra def could come in handy with all those dragons and mamkutes. I'm sure the def saved me at points like this!
I guess res doesn't matter too much because they'll get status affected pretty easily anyhow...

And even when they are it doens't matter.....
I've let my Swordmaster Rutger get bezerked on Ch-16 Gaiden with a inventory of Kill Swords and watched him kill everything while bezerked while I just stay near the beginning.
And the thing is with those Mamkutes you tend to always survive by about 3-7 hp as long you have more than 35 HP but Swordmasters tend to be the only units who can dodge Mamkutes anyway.

Yeah I guess it'd be nice to up all those max caps above 20 for non-promoted units but i guess that's the way things work to limit the power of non-promoted units... otherwise it'd be possible to have a Social Knight as strong as a Paladin and that's be pretty pointless?

well, since Rutger or Fir sometimes really lack Str, i would wait till level20, also for the HP bonus its worthy to wait. once i got 13 str on a 14 swordmaster Rutger after level 20 promoted...that sux >< EDIT:just use them to kill bosses, this always works

Thats sorta sad....I have Rutger at 13 strength at lvl. 14 usually....to have 13 for lvl. 20 promoted is sad....
But I meant as in couldn't they have raised the speed and skill caps slightly like to 22 maybe? To have swordfighters only as strong as theives is really sad since theives aren't meant to be fighters. I mean put lvl. 20 Chad vs lvl. 20 Rutger and Chad will be way stronger in all areas.
But I generally only use Rutger to kill bosses the FE6 bosses tend to be right bastards so Rutger is always my boss killing choice plus he gets a levelup easily for killing them.

^Huh 13 attack isn't that bad for promoted. My Rutger/Fil are like that. They only really get high attack when they're hard mode characters...You must be pretty lucky then?
EDIT: I guess they wanted to be consistant with those 20s, even Mamkutes have the 20s being non-promoted, well kind of

Except Mamkutes get those insane bonuses.......
And 13 strength in my opinion is pretty bad for promoted lvl. 20 Swordmaster that like equal to a lvl. 13 Wolt unpromoted.
I just promoted a Rutger recently at only lvl. 18 and he's already 16 strength on hard mode even in normal with plenty to improve upon.

I wait till 20. Rutger needs all the extra stat gains he can get. He may get ocassional luck every now and then. Much needed bonus for him, to help him increase his chance of evading. My Rutger has 13 Strength 20/5 so RNG is hating him right now.

My Fil had 12 or 13 STR when I promoted her... or maybe it was 11 or something. Well, she still maxed out strength as a Swordmaster eventually. She's my killing choice, especially against bosses with killer weapons. I <3 her luck.
Yeah, sometimes it seems like a waste, even with Lyn, because sometimes she maxes speed at like... level 13 Lord or something. And then skill or luck's not far behind. But I always wait until level 20, even though it might seem like a bit of a waste, when it comes to Lyn or the swordmasters in FE6/7, they all need whatever strength and defense points they can possibly get. :P

Luck doesn't effect your criticals, only chance at evading opponents, unlike in typical SRPGs. But you probably already knew that . My Swordmasters Strength is usually pretty bad, because both Fir, and Rutger have really low Strength growths. That's why I dont usually fight bosses with them, as they do pitiful damage even with critical. Kyuusei you maxed Fir's strength? Damn either RNG loved you or you gave Fir all of your STR ups =P.
