Yeah, that was one of the most obvious ones, I always felt. Then again, I'd think that because I was raised on Greek mythology.
I keep thinking it would be cool to write something up pointing out all of the mythological references, because there are more in FE4 than you can shake a stick at.

Ha! Iv'e got one nobodies said! Pegasus! Seriously when my science teavher saw a drawing of one it was "what the hell is that!". I don't think anyone ever said that as it is very obvious that a pegausus is a mythological creature... OK il'l stop with the silieness now. A sticky topic would be nice and a mythology FAQ at Gamefaqs wouldn't go amiss as well. Game walthroughs sometimes have a Mythology references section* in there so there shouldn't be any abjection by Gamefaqs staff. *Ok i'll be honest, Iv'e seen this once for a tales of phantasia guide. It also had all the non-mythological referances (Luna, Maxwell,Livingstone etc) as well.

Heh, in all likelihood you won't find much that hasn't been found already...I think Summer and I picked this game apart fairly thoroughly. Lots of Norse and Irish references in particular, though, and it's interesting reading.

Sigurd was a minor character in Norse poems....he was a Prince of somesort or leader but not too famous.

Sigurd is pretty famous. He's not too significant, but his story with Brynhild is really one of the more well known Norse myths.
And otherwise, in form of Siegfried. That's a slightly changed version of Sigurd....

I still maintain that the best mythological reference in the game is the Cuan/Cuchulainn parallel. Everything fits almost disturbingly well. I only wish we had exact birthdates for the cast, because I have this sneaking suspicion that Cuan would be 27 when he died...it would certainly be in line with everything else he does.

Would you mind explaining the Cuchulainn story for the ones who don't know it? I don't recall hearing of the name.

Speaking of Siegfried, that reminds me of something. Do you think that maybe Roy's name wasn't choosen for no reason? I'm thinking since they already have Siegfried(ok Sigurd, same guy, different name) they choose the name Roy so they would have both Siegfried and Roy! I bet Intelligent Systems was a fan of Siegfried and Roy.

I thought I already touched upon Roy before....
The closest reference to him would be the Scottish hero Rob Roy MacGregor...
He was given the name Roy because it was the romanized form of his Gaelic name 'Ruadh' which meant Red and he himself had bright red hair.
Roy hated unnecessary bloodshed and was a unatural genius in politics and warfare (sound like someone we know?) which was incredibly unusual for a boy of his time and background.
He helped fight for the Jacobites another thing is how he fights alot of the Marquess in Lycia in FE6/7. Rob Roy spent most of days till his death evading the law and resisting Marquess Montrose.
But there could be closer references but this was the best one I could find since FE6/7 has a very Gaelic/Greek theme going plus Roy also having red ahir and that name was a good match.
But it wouldn't have been unusual Siegfried and Roy n_n And for those who don't know they're a magic act.
