I just have a couple of stupid, silly anime questions. I would be most honored if you all would please just bear with my most horrendous ignorance, but... 1: Okay, for any of you who watch the show Blue Gender on Adult Swim, is it just me, or do some of the voices seem reely familiar? For example, Hans, the the dark-skinned guy from Baikenoor Space Base who betrays the team, sounds exactly like Hiei! Also, I think that Rick, some blond haired sleeper dude, sounds EXACTLY like Goku from DBZ! Or am I just hearing things? ^^;;;; Okay, now I have a bunch of Kenshin questions: 1: You know how Kenshin says stuff like "That you are" and other things like that? Is that little grammatical reversal thingie what he actually does in the original Japanese? I'm just wondering, because I've acquired my habit of syaing stuff like "yup yup, that you are" from Kenhsin, and I've acquired the nickname "Mr. Kenshin Dub" for it ^^;;;; I've also acquired some other, um, interesting Kenshin nicknames, but none of them are appropriate to state publicly  2: I have some questions on what some of the Japanese means: What are these terms, does anyone know? HitoKiri Battosai Tenkin (Sojiro the Tenkin?) Hiten Mitsurugi Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki Finally, a question about Makoto Shishio: What's his little title? Wasn't he known as "the Battosai in the shadows" or "the manslayer in the shadows" or something? |

Well, it is a common thing for the animation producers to hire the same voice actors for different anime series...
I don't know about the "That you are" thing, I didn't watch the anime nor read the manga in English/japanese, I watched it in Cantonese and read it in Chinese. So, maybe someone else can...
HitoKiri Battosai, or Battousai...
It is sort of a honored name for the assassin.
Hitokiri is ¤d¤H±Ù, literally means thousand kills. (Or Cut/Slash, but you get the picture. A man who killed a lot of people.)
Battosai is ©Þ¤MÂN, basically is his...style. ©Þ¤M is the act of drawing sword, so that would mean... a sword-drawing man.
As for Tenkin, I think you mean Tenken instead.
Ten is sky, or heaven in this case. Ken is sword. So he is Seta Sojiro the Heaven Sword.
Hiten Mitsurugi is just a sword technique, used by...Kenshin, Hiko Seijurou...oh and Amakusa.
Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki is just a technique which follows the basic of Battou Jutsu, (drawing sword at an incredible speed...)
Edit:
About Shishio Makoto...he was a replacement for Kenshin (as a Battousai). Therefore he's in the shadow.

In the Japanese version, Kenshin was polite to the point of annoying. If you think he's pretty damn polite in the English dub, that's actually quite toned down from the original...

In the Japanese version, Kenshin was polite to the point of annoying. If you think he's pretty damn polite in the English dub, that's actually quite toned down from the original... Basically, whenever he's the Rurouni (meaning not Himura Kenshin or the Battousai), he ends virtually every piece of dialogue with "de gozaru," altered, of course, for a question or the type of dialogue. He also constantly attaches the suffix -dono to people's names. This pisses of Kaoru to no end, because -dono basically means "sir" or "lady." It's a very old and extremely polite way of speaking. Also, something that they got rid of altogether, is his freakish "sessha." The Rurouni refuses to say "ore" (literally "I"). Instead, he replaces it with sessha which literally means "this unworthy one." And of course we all know why he thinks that way. For killing all those people and Tomoe. Ummm . . . Kanzakii . . . I have a one gripe. Only Kenshin is the Battousai. Shishio was a replacement Hitokiri. Kenshin got the nickname Battousai after perfecting his Battou-jutsu (an amazing feat). Bah. In South America, where Kenshin was already poorly translated, Kenshin was called Battousai the Slasher. ::shudders:: Evil, evil, bad, stupid name! Oh. One more thing. Kenshin's name is pronounced *hImura* The accent is on the 'i' not the 'u'. And the surname comes first. |

That is awful...but at least he got to keep the "Battousai" part. The stories I could tell you about Yu Yu Hakusho in Portugeuse.... *shudders*

Seriously, NoBaka? The Rurouni was *that* polite? So polite people actually got annoyed with him? Wow...I can totally sympathize with how he feels there, when most people meet me for the first time, one of the first things they say is "okay, now THAT is freakishly polite"  Man...oh, man...most honored ladies and gentlemen, it's official. The Rurouni is now my IDOL. Seriously though, one question about the Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki: I know it's a sworddraw technique, but what I'm wondering is, what does the name actually *mean*? Please excuse my most horrendous ignorance and thickheadedness, but I was wondering what the technique's name would be in English...the only word I think I may know is "no" which I think means...of? Or something to do with an adjective? That's all I know...I would be most honored if someone enlightened me ^^;; |

It may tell me something... Mayo Suzukaze. Well, her real name is Morinaga Kaname, but doesn't really matter. And you are correct about him (Kenshin) being voiced by an actress. About the Battousai, I remember that Shishio was once called "¼v¤l©Þ¤MÂN" in the Chinese version, which literally translate to "Shadow Battousai." While Shadow actually means a replacement, while Battousai refers to Kenshin as the Hitokiri. The name "shadow" has things to do with how the people do stuff in those days...say, if an important person was dead, they will find a "shadow" of that person and not announce his death right away to prevent certain troubles. (And there were a lot of Lords who have their own "Shadow-Musha"...) |

The only one I'm even remotely secure about is the Ryu Kan Sen Tsumuji, which is something like Spinning Dragon Hair Flash. It makes sense if you think about it. Ryu Kan Sen (and its derivatives) are all attacks that use torque, the force of the body turning. The fact that Kenshin uses a long blade (relative to say, Aoshi's kodachi's) increases the force he can use to put the smackdown on people. No? I'm pretty sure it's a kind of . . . possessive thing. It can apply to . . . well, it'd be a better idea to ask SummerWolf or Kern. n_n;; |

Ryu no, well, Dragon's.
Hirameki is similar to Sen, but I could be wrong...meaning "flash"?

Hmmm...Heaven Soaring Dragon's Flash? Sounds quite a bit better in japanese, that it does...anyways, thank you very much for taking the time out to answer my question, Kanzakii!  And you're right, Nobaka-the same voice actors tend to pop up in a lot more than 1 different anime. Still, I can't get over how weird it his hearing the saccharine, pure-good Goku lecherously hitting on Marlene in Blue Gender. Man...talk about surreal n_n;; |
