Even though FE4/5 are the best...
[/fanboyism]
...you should take a look at Monshou no Nazo, at least. Book 1, mainly. You'll see a bit of similarities with FE6.
Look at the beginning group of FE1 (and its remake): - Marth, rapier-using lord; - Jeigan, promoted paladin with silver lance, iron sword and horrible growth rates; - Gordon, archer; - Dorga, armor knight; - Cain, red cavalier; - Abel, green cavalier; - Sheeda, pegasus knight.
Take out Sheeda. Do you remember anything? =P

FE4- - Marth-Sigurd - Jeigan-Cuan - Gordon-Midayle - Dorga-Adan - Cain-Noisch - Abel-Alec
FE5 - Marth-Leaf - Jeigan-Everyle and Dagduar - Gordon-Tania - Dorga-Marty or Dagduar in a way - Cain-Halvan - Abel-Othin
FE6 - Marth-Roy - Jeigan-Marcus - Gordon-Wolt - Dorga-Bors - Cain-Alan - Abel-Lance
Now FE7 is the only odd one out it has more in common with FEG than any others.

But the similarities between FE6 and FE1 do not stop in the first chapter...
In the second chapter of the FE1 remake, a mercenary+three axe fighters join you. Add a pegasus knight and take out an ax fighter(I wasn't sure about the number of fighters that joined with Dieck... Corrected after reading EndGame's post) and you've got... That's right, FE6 again.
Then... There's Navaare/Rutger. In the anime, Navaare(a fast mercenary with a killing sword) helps Lenna(sister). A thief escapes with her(Julian). Later, Navaare joins Marth's group, after being convinced. Take out the thief and change around some classes and you got...
Rutger(SwordMaster with a killing sword) helps Clarine[thanks Iris] (who isn't a sister, but can heal, anyway). She escapes alone. Later, Rutger joins Roy's group after being convinced.
------
Also, look at the other groups, the charachter hardly match as well as Fe6/Fe1... Ex: Midayle has green hair and is an archer type... but his stats are completely different from Gordon's. High movement and high speed, while Gordon has bad movement and an average speed(low level). Kashim is more Midayle-like than Gordon.

Rutger(SwordMaster with a killing sword) helps that healer whose name I can't remember, she escapes alone. Later, Rutger joins Roy's group after being convinced. Clarine.

Another one: See Oguma and his fighters, also. Now, look at Dieck. Right, they were 3 and became 2, but the reference is still there. It would be interesting to research all these FE traditions and clones. Or maybe not. =P

FE1/3 and 6 do share a lot of similarities plot-wise. Yes, all of the FE games share some similar characteristics, but I think it's much more apparant in FE1/3 and FE6. Along with the above mentioned similarities, there's also:
Chiki/Fa "Dark Demon Dragon" final boss. The Fire Emblem used to unlock some sacred sword (Falchion/Sword of Seals) Heavy use of mamkutes near the end of the game.

The Fire Emblem used to unlock some sacred sword (Falchion/Sword of Seals) What is the full use of the Fire Emblem in FE1/3 ? Because some said that the Fire Emblem is more "usefull" in FE1/3 than the other games..... [/off topic]

Huh... Marth with the Fire Emblem can open chests...
Also, the Emblem has 5 orbs... There is one orb of the Emblem(FE1) and the 12 orb fragments(FE3) which give better stat growth to the one carrying it.
Also, other two orbs are used to make the StarLight spell, the only weapon effective against Garnef's Maph spell(He's invincible while this thing is up).

The Restored Fire Emblem (called the Sealed Shield) was essential if you wanted to beat the final map of fe3 book 2.
The Sealed Shield instantly DESTROYS ALL EARTH DRAGONS on the map at the start of marths turn. And the map is earth dragons and reinforcemnts of earth dragons for about 70 turns.
Tear Ring has Fire Emblem similarities: After map 9 you get a mage with "Starlight" (A spell with 20 Power and 12 weight...) Map 5 a mage with "Wonder Gust" (Wind magic with high critical) The starting group is your Lord, A Jeigan (this time a Pirate), 2 Rook (Social) Knights and a Princess (who promotes to pegasus knight, btw) and a female archer (who can use swords can't remember class name) join you during the first map.
Also Homles sections have free roaming bits which are alot like fire emblem gaiden.

Heh... I never had related the dragons dissapearing to the Fire Emblem... ;D Anyway... it's impossible to get to that chapter without the full Fire Emblem. The only orb which you can miss, the Hoshii one, is necessary to beat Hardain. So you can't get to the last chapter without the complete Fire Emblem.

Well this game needs to implement the FE in a similar way.
