Will obstacles interfere with projectile attacks? Will elevation features be implemented? How do you think terrain will be handled? I'd like to know what you people think the 3D maps might bring.

I think elevation will be implemented and maybe they could put terrain that does damage like in Ch28 Valerous Roland in Eliwood and like in Advance Wars2 with the canons and the volcanoe and stuff.

NO elevations.
They're very annoying in FF Tatics and they'll be annoying here too.
They may add elevations, but I hope they have no effect on gameplay.

In a sense, FE 7 has elevations, if you count the mountains. However, all they did was give you a huge evade and a slight defense bonus. I hope elevations in FE 8 do the same.
I can see some missions where enemies hide behind buildings and whatnot, catching the unsuspecting tactician off guard. I don't know if that will actually be in the game, but I suspect something like that will be used.

If you mean gameplay wise, I think elevations serve the same purposes in FFT and FE7; they slow down movement, add evade and defense.
Camera wise however, I agree that elevations were cumbersome to deal with, because you had to constantly rotate the ding blasted camera to see everything.
Luckily, the camera angle in FFTA was much better.

The problem with FFT(A)'s elevations is that you constantly has units circling around each other before attacking just to get a better position. In FE, this doesn't happen as much, because the ground isn't a multi leved as FFTs. But I guess they aren't too bad...

YES EXACTLY NeonZ. That was the problem I had with all these Tactics games. It just becomes a game of circle around him. Did you guys notice that you can't hide in trees now? Look at the screen shots, you'll notice there are square grid all around the battlefield, but they're missing around the tree in the picture. I wonder how well gain a strategic advantage now?

Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. With the 3D maps, it's going to be difficult to have large-scale battles where a character is as large as a house or a mountain - while you can get away with that in 2D, it looks ridiculous in 3D. Instead of trees being a type of terrain, they now look more like obstacles. I'm beginning to think the terrain will only include what's on the very ground, like in Tactics Ogre/FFT (grass, snow, dirt, rock, water, sand, etc. Not mountains, forests, or forts.)

What's to say there aren't different types of tress, or maybe you have to hide in scrubs and bushes instead now?

That's why 3D doesn't really mean it's actually good. By that I mean all kinds of games. We should have both 2D and 3D games. Some gameplay issues just won't work in 3D. A perfect example is Castlevania. You ever walked up to a wall and see a skeleton on the other side of that wall? Naturally you'll whip that sucker, but your whip goes right through the fricking wall yet it looks perfectly fine. It's not gonna work in 3D. Now I'm not saying FE can't work in 3D, I have a lot of faith in IS. No matter how different, I'm happy because FE6 and 7 didn't offer anything really new in terms of gameplay.
About the mountains, I think it'll work in 3D. You know how FE5 had a close up angle and a high up angle? Like the first stage, the houses are really big and detailed cause the view is closer, while the other maps had these tiny little houses cause the camera is higher. I think in this game, the village battles will be up close while other battles will not have that up close look.
