Shopping's not it since you can't even shop in Fire Emblem Gaiden. Anyway, the answer is the scrolling map before a battle. You know how each game scrolls across the entire map before you fight? It's not in FE4 and 7. Every game scrolls through the entire map before battle, even FEG and the BS Fire Emblems.

Well.. there's tons of enemies/reenforcements. I made three flying units (including Farina) take care of the eastern portion of the map, sent Lyn and Rath to fight the axe users and planted Bartre (with a Halberd) and Oswin in forests before where all those Social Knights come out of the forts.
Great map to level up. o_O

The map scrolling is the one thing I never pay attention to ;; But wait... they don't scroll in FE5... do they...? I remember that they do in FE1, 2, 3, and 6... but not in 5. =\

Only on some maps they don't scroll. Once Leaf reunited with the Fiana Braves, the map scrolls again. They don't scroll in those dark chapters either but that doesn't mean the feature is completely missing. It's still there. By the way swordmaster, you're wrong because you're thinking of gameplay, my question was map and only map. While your question is sorta correct, it doesn't completely relate to just "map" since multiple castles is also a gameplay feature. The scrolling is just there on the map. It's not part of anything else, is just scrolls the map and nothing else. Don't forget, the castles don't look like the ones in FE4. My answer looks exactly the same on every game.

Ahh... thank you for clearing that up... allmighty FE guru! ^_^ I either forgot about the scrolling maps in FE5, or didn't get far enough to see them. I really gotta beat that game one of these days ;;

Yeah. I was playing Thracia today and it wasn't scrolling. But that's 'cause I started a new game. Heheh.

The map will start scrolling once the game makes you do the pick units thing like the other games. You'll notice you don't get to pick who to take with you in the beginning.
