a rom is an illigal copy of a game on a computer

Actually, ROM stands for Read Only Memory. The ROMs that are referenced here are copies of a cartridges chipset. It is technically legal to make a copy of a cartridge (ROM) if you own the game. The only illegal thing about it is if you go online and download games that you don't own the original for. You can not play ROMs without an emulator, which copies the specs of an inferior, dedicated computer, "tricking" the computer into thinking it's the piece that's being emulated.
And technically, a game's copyright expires after seven years, so unless that property has been renewed, it is TECHNICALLY ok to own that ROM, since that property no longer belongs to it's creators. If you look on "legitimate" (read: capitulated to the IDSA) rom sites, you'll notice that you can't find any ROMs for games for series like Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, 007, etc., because the creators of those properties have renewed the copyrights. Since Fire Emblem is still owned by Nintendo, any Fire Emblem ROM - from 1 to 7 - is illegal, unless you own that cartridge.
And to clear up a question that was asked earlier: if you give away a game that you own a ROM for, you do NOT have to delete it, as long as you have documentation proving that you either bought the original game or were given it as a gift. Either way, as long as the company received reneumeration for their product, everything is peachy.

Please link the FAQ, or at least the page I can get to it from. I've only been arguing with Alex Lucard of 411games.com about the legalities of emulators for going on two and a half years now.

That comes from the FAQ that Gamersara linked.
This means that basically, according to this documentation, my old arguement about games that are no longer copyrighted being good to download is baseless, am I correct?
