I`m actually seriously hoping that book he`s holding is telling the truth and he ends up being a light mage. I think that would be SO fascinating. Such a cool contridiction between his look and his battle style!

And Fire is the first magic spell who's be using in FE because it's the weaker, so it's normal to use a weak spell in first chapters......

Dark or Light means here "good or bad", not about the magic. Because he's a good guy, probably friend with Ike, but in the same time he's dessed in black and his looking is glaucous, and is a mercenary. Moreover, this red symbol on his head is strange..... That's just it.
