I think that it's pretty much a given that Aion of the Black Fang is not the Lord of Araphen from Lyn's path, despite their similar looks. But how many people think that the translators thought so? Especially with their sharing of the same view of the Sacae Nomads...

When he's speaking of Uhai, he mentions something similar to Saceans having no mind for talent or something. I know that he said something about them, but I can't remember what.... |

Oh that. Yeah, I don't remember the exact words, but it was something similar.
Though that wouldn't necessarily mean that he was Lord Araphen, or that the translators thought so. Disdain for the Sacaeians is widespread in Elibe.

I haven't really noticed much disdain for them apart from with Araphen and Aion... and to a lesser extent Nergal...

It's possible, but it really wouldn't make sense that a lord of a Lycian house would find reason to join a league of Bern assassins.
Unless... Marquess Araphen is just an cover identity! Aion could have killed the real Marquess long ago and took his place (using magic make-up). With a foothold on Lycia, the Black Fang can be everywhere in the country now...

Well, "Sacaean mongrel" sounds quite different from "certain rough talent, but no mind for planning".
I'd say Araphen is a racist, while Aion just thinks himself superior to anyone else.
So no, I don't think they're the same guy, nor that the translators thought that.
Does anyone know how the text translates in the japanese version?

Sacaeians ARE generally looked down upon by the rest of Elibe. It's more obvious in FE6. And Lyn's mother running off to be with a Sacaeian wasn't exactly happy news in the house of Caelin.

The lord of Araphen is just one of the many people who consider those who come from Sacae to be inferior, one reason of course is because they are mostly nomads. Those who live in one place and don't move about can't really understand what motivates these people to keep moving around, and rather than admit that they themselves may not hold all the answers, these people prefer to write the Sacaen nomads off as inferior. Also people hear stories about the Sacaen people, (i.e. Farina, "So the tribes in Sacae, they all, like, dance around a fire and chant "Ooga Booga," don't they?") Aion is simply an egotistical jerk who thinks that he somehow is above everyone else because he has a "mind for planning"
