Hey. Everyone knew this topic would come sooner or later. Anyway, I'm having some serious problems getting Xavier, and have tried around 10 times (at least) to get him before failing every single time.
I recently thought of a plan that I thought would work like a charm. The plan was to put two mages (Asvel: level 20 Mage and Homer: level 13 Bard) near the left door, but have them positioned where they could pick off the "Freji" units. I figured the Lenster army wouldn't attack civilians, so once the enemy was gone, this would be a piece of cake. The result: failure.
Shiva, Carrion, and Sleuf are fatigued at this point, because I went the west route and barely survived that insane level before this. I don't even think I should use Fin in this level, due to the fact that I left his sword level at D (even if he's a level 20 Duke Knight).
Any help or strategies to use would be appreciated, and I can post my characters' levels if need be (just ask). Thank you. ;D

I know Xavier is a pain even for the long term players....
But a vital thing to remember you were correct, the Lenster allied units DON'T attack NPC's. So you can use them as a human shield.
I used Eyrios to pick off all the Freege units with his long range Thunder spell and a basically kept using rescue with my faster units to build a wall with the NPC units.
I'll explain with a map later when I have time

You know chapter 18 is where I totally use up Safy's repair staff and Tina's thief staff. Have Tina steal all the NON LENSTER guys' weapons so they can't atack. Use the Safy's repair if the thief staff breaks. I save those 2 staffs just for this chapter and it saves you a lot of headaches. Oh also you can put the Lenster guys to sleep with a sleep staff, just don't put Xavier to sleep or he won't join. Even if you put the Lenster armor gusy to sleep the NPCs can still talk to them even though they're asleep.

Don't they also have to escape too?

Hey. Thanks TerranigmaFreak, that sounds dependable. I have 2 uses of the Repair Staff, but a broken Thief Staff (Tina broke it while she was an enemy). It should be enough though. ;D Sadly, I find Tina useless, and haven't used her at all. Hopefully that doesn't lead to a death by Fenrir (even though I know how to stop it).

It worked like a charm. Sadly, I didn't get the Member Card though, as I forgot to keep the other units (other than the Knights) alive. I'm not doing that again, so I'm going to get myself an item code for the Member Card. I know, it's cheating, but I deserve it for getting Xavier on my first time through. ;D Thanks again.

Those armor guys don't need to escape, just as long as they become NPCs. So remeber, whenever you play chapter 18 you should save all your sleep staffs, thief staffs, and repair staffs. You know in chapter 14G this chapter has tons of Lotos mages with the teleport staffs. Steal as many of them as you can, you become really useful later on including chapter 18. I teleport Salem all over the place blocking thieves from robbing those treasure chests.

Hey. But how could I manage to get a Sleep Staff? The only ones I've ever really seen are in Cyas' hands (besides that one Priest on level 21 I think). I'm getting my butt completely kicked a few levels after 18, so I'm going to start from scratch. It might help to know where to get some fancy equipment while I'm "experience farming" the bosses. ;D

When Salem joins he come with a sleep staff. Also if you willing to risk it, you can also take the broken sleep staff that Salem had in the chapter before, just repair it you'll have 2 sleep staffs. One is more than enough. I rather collect more teleport staffs and have Salem teleporting all over the map causing chaos.

Definitely the funnest thing ever warping everywhere with Sleuf and Salem causing havoc n_n
Seriously though its FAR more fun with Sleuf since he gets godly stats plus A rank in staves already and also Light Magic ownz everything in FE5.

Hey. But how could I manage to get a Sleep Staff? Sleep staff (8 or 7) Chapter 12/Salem Chapter 17A/Cyas (after 10 turns) Chapter 21/Enemy Priest Chapter 22/Cyas Chapter 23/Enemy Dark Mage x 2 Chapter 24/Enemy Dark Mage Chapter 24G/Enemy Dark Mage Well those are all the times you see the Sleep staves through the whole game. Don't give up, your at what chapter 21 its supposed to be hard work from now. Even my Godly Marty (He had over 50 hp 20s in everything but magic, which was double figures) would be strugling unless you take bonus' into consideration. So basically sleep staffs are rare. Also note the long range wind spell Blizard speel puts people to sleep (theres only 5 copies in the whole game, all near the end). Sleuf and the re-warp staff. Hmm. I really need to go the Sleuf route sometime.

Hey. Well, the reason I gave up was the fact that most of my people weren't strong enough to handle the beefed up (due to Cyas' presence) units. Plus, Eaichu would probably think I'm insane, as I rarely even used Mareeta...which is a choice that I just began to regret.
Anyway, this new game is going very well. Sure, I'm using Baks in level 2 to beef my characters up to level 20 (no scrolls, but the arena + the Member Card will negate that basically), but there's no rule against that. I just can't seem to get Marty to do much, as Baks won't attack him with his broken Iron Bow (Marty's defense is too high). Should I really care about that though? Is Marty a decent character without scrolls?

Marty sucks without scrolls since all he gets is def and hp but with them he can become decent or as Eaichu has shown, a monster.
You should do, Sleuf can max out 4 of his stats no problem without scrolls, with scrolls hes a monster of all sorts.

Oh yeah, that reminds me, in Seluf's route there's quite a few sleep swords in the stage. Just have someone put one of the knight to sleep, take his sleep sword, and attack the other knights with the sleep sword and take those as well. Those babies will come in very handy when you play chapter 18 and also want the member card.
