This is the beginning of the story. Note that the FE6/7 names will be replaced later. It still needs more work but tell me if you think it's different than all the fics out there. I want to get the right overall feel and to see if people like this style first before I worry about other things.
Ethlin slashed left and right with her sword trying her best to keep the dragon knights at bay. She was exhausted from the heat of the Yeld Desert. The movement of her horse was hindered by the sand. With her daughter Althena still asleep in her arms, Ethlin was fighting a battle she cannot win. The heat and exhuastion took it's toll on her, without warning another dragon attacked and thrusted his lance at her. Ethlin tried to dodge but it was too late, the lance pierced through her chest. She fell off her horse still holding on to her daughter. "Cuan... I... love you.... Sigurd... my brother... I'm... sorry..." said Ethlin and then she died.
"Ethlin!!! Nooooooo!!!" Cuan shouted with rage and sadness.
He couldn't believe this was happening. Trapped in the Yeld desert and surrounded by 20 Dragon Knights. His entire army was nearly wiped out, and now, his beloved wife died right before his eyes. He couldn't do a thing to save her. Then he heard the voice of a little girl crying. Althena, his daughter was still alive, but not for long if he couldn't get to her. In a mad and desperate attemp, Cuan unleashed the fury of his Gei Borg and stabbed it into the ground with all his might. The strength of his Holy Weapon stuck the ground with a loud thundering boom and caused the earth around him to shake like an Earthquack. The powerful force shook many Dragon Knights off their Dragons. This was his chance, Cuan whipped his horse and dash straight towards the sound of his daughter's crying. He was getting near and could she Althena sitting on the sand crying next to the body of her mother. Just then a huge Balck Dragon with pointy scales that looked more like rock landed right in front of him. It folded up it's wing and wrapped it around it's belly while getting down on all 4 legs. Riding on the back of the Dragon was a man over 6 feet tall. His long flowing brown hair was all over the place. The man had a devious look in his eyes with a long chin and a tall nose. He wore a sliver and red plate armor and in his his hands was the Heaven Lance Gungnir. This man was non other than his arch enemy, Torabant, King of Thracia. It was pointless to talk, all Cuan wanted to do now was to tear Torabant limb from limb. Cuan swung his lance at him and Torabant raised his lance to block. When the 2 holy lances clashed, instead of sparks a flash of golden light can be seem from miles away. Rather than the clanking sound of metal, it sounded more like a thunder strom. Even the villagers living near the edge of the desert could hear the sound.
"I was told whenever you hear sounds like that, it was the sound of gods waging war with each other in the heavens." the elder of the village said with his voice trembling.
Cuan launched 4 attacks at Torabant's head. Torabant ducked, blocked, and parried all the attacks and countered with his own move. He aimed straight at the left side of Cuan's chest hoping to pierce right through his heart. Cuan quickly leaned to the right and pushed Torabant's lance away with his own lance. Torabant quickly changed his attack and aimed for Cuan's upper right shoulder, and another at his right leg. Both of the attacks were blocked. Cuan came back and unleashed a fury of jabs at Torabant, one faster than another. After it was over, Torabant lifted his lance and tried to deliver a crushing blow at Cuan's head. Just when it was about to hit, Cuan swings his lance upward with both hands knocking Torabant's lance back and quickly followed up with a fast thrust towards his stomach. There was no time to block, Torabant threw his Gungnir into the air freeing both of his hands and backflipped off his saddle. The dragon straighten his tail to support his master's weight and Torabant stood back up on it's tail and caught his lance back into his hands. He jumps back into the saddle and the fight continued on. All of Torabant's Dragon Knights stood aside watching the fight. They were ordered not to interfere no matter what. It was a duel between 2 arch enemies. After 30 rounds neither has the upper hand. Torabant fought with powerful attacks but they not enough to take down Cuan's speed and defensive techniques. They continued on for another 30 rounds and the sun was setting. Torabant knew the cold friggid nights in these wastelands were too much for his dragons to bare, he had to end this battle soon. Cuan was driven to the end of his rope and felt he had nothing to loose. His attacks became more fierce and powerful. Suddenly, Torabant's dragon extended it's wings and leaped 10 feet into the air and dived straight down at Cuan. With his lance pointed straight down, Torabant plans to trust his Gungnir through Cuan's skull. At the last moment, Cuan whipped his horse and it bolted forward barely escaping Torabant's attack. Without having to turn his head, he heard the sound of the wind against a lance and knew Torabant has made his move again to strike Cuan's back. He quickly jerked his body to the left side and allowed Torabant's lance to past right by. Then Cuan grabbed onto Torabant's Gungnir under his right arm and his horse quickly sped forward, yanking Torabant off his dragon. Torabant held onto his lance with all his might and was dragged along the sand for a few feet. When Cuan let go of the Gungnir, Torabant quickly rolled back to his feet. Cuan's horse already made a quick turn and was coming right back at him. Torabant duck down and rolled away from Cuan's attack. Another attack came and Torabant leap to the side. There was no way for Torabant to get back on his dragon while trying to escape Cuan's attack. He looked around for a way to escape, then he saw it. Cuan's daughter Althena was lying not too far away from his dragon.
"Dragon, crush that little girl under your feet now!!!" Torabant shouted towards his dragon.
Dragons were intelligent creatures and even though they could not speak, they can understand their master's commands. It turn towards Althena and was about to kill her. There was no time to lose, Cuan quickly turn his attention away from Torabant and raced to save his daughter. This was his chance, Torabant took aim with his Gungnir and launched it straight at Cuan's back. His only thought was to save his daughter, he unprepared for this attack. The Gungnir stuck through Cuan's chest.
With the last of his strength Cuan uttered his last few words. "No... this can't... be... Fin... take care... of Leaf..."
