What 5 characters are the best to use for this game?

Due to the overpowered nature of some of FFT's abilities, you are better off with the starting generics and Ramza, who no doubt have garnered an impressive amount of JP before you even get your first special character, than any special characters. They also have the advantage of being able to gather JP through accumulation rather than the brute force special characters need. Go read a few topics in the GameFAQs FFT board. If you look past all the obnoxiousness, you can find plenty of powerful builds.

if ur afraid to die, then ORLANDU is ur man
hes like god, except alot stronger, and can even beat the "knights of the round" from FF7 with 1 hand tied behind his back (i think he did cause he has their best sword, the excalibur;D)

A properly leveled Beowulf and Reis can be more kickassing than Orlandu ever will be. Beowulf's moves, particularly Chicken, can be amazingly effective when used properly, and as long as you save enough MP for a drain later on, you can use them as much as needed. Reis has good natural speed, and if you equip the perfume that hastes her, she can be a devastatingly effective Calculator.
It takes a lot of work, but if you're willing to put in the time, they can be a great team.

I can say for a fact that your post is wrong. Any character can reach 999 hp, 999 mp, 99 pa, 99 ma, and 50 speed. Any character can equip the auto-haste item Excalibur. Thus, after such extensive leveling, the only thing distinguishing such characters is their Squire replacement job. With that sort of speed, one gets a lot more turns than the enemies. This makes most of the status spells Beowulf gets worthless, and Reis' breath spells are just not useful at all. This leaves Orlandu with a slight edge due to the powerful sword skills he gets.
Of course, that's including training. With a reasonable amount of training, Orlandu is far more powerful than Beowulf and Reis. Orlandu comes later than Beowulf but earlier than Reis. This gives the player more time to develop him rather than her. Of course, by that time, one could very well have a generic calculator, making Reis unnecessary. Without a doubt, her Dragoner abilities suck. Her real advantage is stat growth, and that takes extensive training to utilize, especially since it requires that she trains in several different jobs, while Orlandu can just focus on his main job, which is what special characters are relegated to doing at that point of the game.
If you insist on training, give Orlandu the Excalibur, Aegis Shield, Flash Hat, Magic Robe, and Genji Gauntlet, and he becomes a strong calculator as well as a strong fighter. His MA may not be as high as Reis', but he gets an elemental bonus to Holy attacks from Excalibur. Add that to his already impressive All Swordskills, and you have an unstoppable spellsword.

I can say for a fact that your post is wrong. And I can say for a fact that a lot of it depends on opinion and preferred fighting style. Or maybe not wanting to use Orlandu like everyone else in the world because he's fucking cheap. But they can't equip Excalibur in every class. If I want a dedicated magic-user, or my calculator to have items as a backup, I obviously won't be able to put them in the knight class to equip that sword. Status spells are only useless to those who don't have the imagination to find good ways to use them. Even when I'm far more powerful than the enemy, I always find some of them handy for giving me that much more of an edge against them.

You said Beowulf and Reis are better than Orlandu can ever be. I've already proven, for a fact, that such a statement is wrong.
Keep in mind that Orlandu's Holy Swordsman class can use Knight Swords. He can also use headwear, helmets, robes, clothes, and armor. Reis can only use female only gear.
I stated the exact circumstances under which Beowulf's spells are worthless: at the best a character can be. With 50 speed and haste, a character gets 6 or 7 turns for every turn an enemy gets. At that point, the base damage of any of Orlandu's swordskills with Excalibur is over 2000, resulting in 999 damage with each hit. Beowulf's spells are all single hitting, and none may do over 999 damage. In other words, it's a choice between status effects and dead enemies with no other possibility. Having a blind enemy or even a sleeping one is far less useful than having a dead one, no matter the strategy.

Actually, I'm not really objecting so much to what you've said as the totally fucking arrogant way you said it.

Orlandu is obviously the most outstanding character in the whole game... can use ALL the sword techniques.

Which are various fancy ways of smashing an enemy into oblivion. I'd rather have something more versatile, personally.
