I just beat it today in about 3:40 I think. I found a new desktop background in that ending pic of Samus sitting on the rocks in her Gravity Suit. =)
I thought Zero Mission was pretty good... the last part was kind of strange, but hey... I enjoyed getting my revenge on those blasted Space Pirates. >=) I liked it a lot better than Fusion... the changes were just too radical in there. o_o;;
One thing that's been bugging me though... what's with Samus's ships? Is it me... or is the one from Zero Mission another new one? I've had a lot of debates as to when Prime takes place in relation to the other games... my friend says that it takes place after Super Metroid, but I didn't think it was logical for Samus to get a new ship, then use the old one again... so I thought it took place between Metroid and Metroid 2. Anybody know when Prime takes place... it's kinda bugging me. >.<;;

Prime takes place in between 1 and 2. So you're right. And about the ship's, well, let's say Samus got a new one.

I just beat it in just under 2:30. It's much easier second time through, of course.

I beat it on Friday in 3:01:05. Don't worry thats 3 Hours not 3 Days. 68% items. I'm worried thats more items and less time than Fusion took. That was done on Normal. I don't think il'l be trying on hard for a while (Japanese Fusion has taught me: you have much less health and missles, hits do more to you and I belive enemies take more hits).
Some part posed problems and required retries. As for the Final boss ... Mecha-Ridley? What is it with these Bosses from nowhere? Fusions Omega metroid was strange enough. Even Bowser or Ganondorf might have made more sense... ...

Four hours, max? That's it? Did they shorten it or something? I remember the original being longer. I have the ROM, but I've not been playing it much, thanks to real life responsibilities.

I'm not sure if the original was exactly longer... it was harder and perhaps it just seemed longer in that sense. Diagonal shooting, downward shooting, and a map made Zero Mission a hundred-times easier than the original metroid. Oh... and thanks Leon Magnus for clearing that up. =) I thought I read somewhere that Prime took place between 1 & 2, and I think it's logical because Samus starts out with all the upgrades that you'd have at the end of the original Metroid. Although, the ending for Zero Mission kinda messes that up. Where does Samus's Gravity Suit go after Zero Mission and Super Metroid anyway...?

Diagonal shooting, downward shooting, and a map made Zero Mission a hundred-times easier than the original metroid. Of course, the fact that I was seven at the time could have also hurt me. Which brings me to this point: are we becoming that stale in that the best games have to be remakes of all the old ones? I was seven when I beat the original Metroid; that was 17 years ago! Is it that hard to make new ideas for video games nowadays that don't resort to titilation to draw players? Do people need to lean on the crutch of classic games such as the old Mario games and Castlevania to attain success? Games are slowly becoming a sad state of affairs for people like myself, who don't care if a game's got blood or nudity in it.

I hope you're not talking about Zero Mission. =0 Even though the maps seemed to have the same shape (and some of the same locations) and there was the whole "Beat Kraid, Beat Ridley, Beat Mother Brain" thing, it was still pretty original. I have to say it was a bit short, but hey... Remakes aren't ALWAYS bad. Just look at Super Mario Allstars... Americans got to play the SMB2 that they missed out on (by SMB2, I mean the actual one... the one that was named "The Lost Levels" in the U.S.). Plus, just think if they remade some of the older FE games and brought them to the U.S. But yeah, I see your point... remakes aren't always bad, but they're not always great either. ;[

I wasn't really talking about Zero Mission, because it's practically a different game. But I am talking about stuff like re-releasing games like Link to the Past, which I still own on SNES. If you're going to remake games, you need to have enough new to make it worth dropping ANOTHER $40 - $50 bucks on that game. Link to the Past was $50 in 1992, and $35 now - that's $85 for the same game, and what's different? A four player version of Zelda with spiffy graphics?
The problem is that newer gamers are a little bit spoiled with the new games. I have two half brothers, aged 12 and 6. I succeded in getting the 12 year old into Fire Emblem, but I haven't been as succesful in doing so with games such as the original Mega Man's, and Contra. Of course, he ate Zelda up, because it was "new". My six year old brother took one look at my original Mario Bros. (on NES) and said it was "stinky".
The new Metroid is a step in the right direction, but we need to get some imagination back into making video games, and not try to go with what will neccesarily sell a million copies.

I know what you mean... but I guess it depends on how you grow up. I have a friend who grew up on Genesis, and he likes the classic Sega games and the new Nintendo ones. Then there's me... I had a healthy diet of NES and SNES games when I was younger, so I still love playing them. Oh yeah, and... *points to topic titled "Stupid kids today... no respect"*

I was reading that earlier, didn't feel like commenting on it and bumping it up. I remember that article in EGM. I think they just found the dumbest kids they possibly could, and stuck them in a room. How do you play games and not know the history behind them? I still have my ORIGINAL ATARI VCS that I played as a kid (now I'm REALLY dating myself). I've played Pong. And I have just as much fun going back and playing the games that I didn't get to as a kid (FE Gaiden in particular) as I do playing NHL 2004.
