Since the old threads are all lost, would anyone mind telling me again what Elto's sword is a reference to? Along with the mythological spelling?
Thanks.

The Treasure name for that is Mistolteen. I use Mistolteen instead of Mistortin.

I don't really care for Treasure. =P If I do, I'd have stick to "Eltshan" instead of "Eltoshan".
Calling him "Elto" as a nickname is cute, regardless. Hell, even his border guards call him "King Elto". =P
I know about the mistletoe and Baldur.........but I seem to remember someone saying something on it.........DarkTwiKitri, IIRC, about either an old spelling of mistletoe (mistletein, perhaps?) that's really very very close to the sword....or a real sword name that's so obscure it's not easy to look up.
It was in the FE and Real Life thread.....
I had most of the other references pinned down, except this one. Damn.

AFAIK, it's Mistleteinn... but I can't remember. I know it's something along those lines.
Searching for that in Yahoo finds stories with a sword of that name which aren't the Balder one, strangely enough...

Yahoo? Damn, I tend to use Google. Oh well. Anything for Fire Emblem...
Interestingly enough, one branch(?) of the legend said that Loki threw a TWIG OF MISTLETOE at Balder. How the heck can one die from that?
*hugs DarkTwiKitri* Thank you.

Hmmm...I think it's because Baldur had some kind of immunity from all weapons except the harmless-looking mistletoe. Ironically, dince he didn't get protection from Mistletoe, it proved tobe his Achille's Heel. I'm not entirely sure of this, I may be wrong, but I can look it up when I get home, if you wish...

I prefer to use Google, but I used Yahoo for years and it tends to be what I defaultly go to when I go to search :/ From what I remember, Baldr's mother (can't remember who that was) was so afraid that he'd get killed that she made everything in the world promise not to harm him, except she overlooked Mistletoe. Once Loki found out, he tricked this blind god I also can't remember the name of to throw a stick of it at him, because the rest of them were having fun attacking Baldr and not hurting him, and he was missing out. Or something to that effect. It changes depending on where you read it... in some places it's a stick, others it's a sword... I think I remember reading somewhere about it being an arrow of mistletoe... [EDIT] I just found a pretty good site on the topic, after searching for Mist elteinn. www.eskimo.com/~stigaard/intro/topten.htmlThe second misconception is what you're wanting. And as luck would have it, I found the original page where I recalled the term from in the first place. www001.upp.so-net.ne.jp/vertis/fes_rpt.htm

*glomps DarkTwikitri*
Well, yeah, Gunlord....I know about the pact Balder's mother made with Hela that nothing in the world can harm him, but unwittingly forgot to ask a mistletoe. I'm just wondering how can ANYONE die from a twig, Achilles' heels or not.
If it's a sword, no questions asked. =P
*goes look the sites up*

like this
Blind god throws mistletoe. balder steps on mistletoe scratching his delicate skin. Balder: Oh I have that endless bleeding condition where my blood doesn't clot and even just a little cut can cause me to bleed enough to die. Dies.
