I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me, basically, how to use sprite sheets into animated sprites... I've tried a cut-and-paste method to experiment, but it always turns out shaky, and doesn't look that great. Any advice?

Well I find it easier to take the screenshots of the animation myself with Animget and just bring it into Animation Shop to edit it and animate it. Because with sprite sheets it's hard to align all the sprites and get the animation right, and I also noticed you were new so Welcome to FESS.

Yes, what he said. Or you can just put everything in one file with many layers and move them sprites from every layer around to animate them. I sujest either photoshop or paintshop pro for this. Then save each of them individually. Then import it into animationshop.

I use MSPaint, Unfreeze, and Giffy, and it works fine. Depends on what you want. For custom sprites, MS Paint is awesome: for in-game sprites, Animget is the easiest.

You just need to spend some more time aligning your images. It's probably most of the work you need to do to turn a sprite sheet into an animation using Paint. I found it works best if you start with your first frame, then save it as 01.bmp for expample. Then you paste the next frame over your previous, making sure the two pictures are aligned properly, and save as 02.bmp. Continue until you've finished all your frames, then convert them to GIF, and put them in an animator. Hope this helps.
