I was refered here from the gamefaq's boards and am stuck on the rescue Leif mission. There is a thundermage in the southwest corner of the map. His name is Ishtar, I believe. Has a girlfriend named Liza.
My problem is his fifty square range magic spell is nukeing anyone it hits. Arthur got fried. Rana got fried. Sir usless of Chamby(Oifry) Got taken down by Lizas hoard and so did the mounted axeman loverboy of Ira's daughter.
I managed to get a couple guys down there and no one can even hit this guy. His dodgeing makes Levin with Holstey look like he is wieghed down with lead. How do you take this guy out without loseing half your army? Is it just me or is magic way over the top in this game?

Only thing I can say is don't rush in.... Also Shannan with Balmunk should be mroe than capable of dodging near everything and if Rana is getting fried so easily you've underleveled her since shes got quite high magic resistance. Try mount your entire army together just outside of Ishtorre's range and lure Liza's army in and take them out first. A good idea is try to lure them into that small high ground on your left they're forced to attack in smaller numbers up there. |

Yeah, that's actually better than what I have been doing...
I just lured them up and fought them head on, since they aren't all that powerful.
Ishtore is kind of a pain, but after the army is cleared out, Shanan should be able to take him out easily... like cake.

Kill off Liza isnot a big problem, if u encounter difficulty then it shows ur characters' levels are low. Anyway, Shannan should kill her off easily. Other routine ,you can try to pick off the units in right left flank of her army by using Fee, Arthur and Lester. It has the small path near the moutain so take adavantage of that terrain and assault them with range, position ur units near the moutain to get . Kill off the lance general and the archer (watch out for Fee). Probably, Liza (her Leadership
bonus helps her troops out a lot) will charge this small path while her army will charge at your main front ( I mean the rest of your army with Shannan stand in their range). Now, if ur Fee is at high level and somehow her berserk then Liza will die in 1 turn. If not, Fee will dodge or get injured not die, then let Arthur (with wind spell) or Lester (hero bow) finish her due to their high accuracy. Yohan/Yohalva's Hero Axe and Oifaye's Iron Cutter on the Armors and high Magic
Defense units (Yuria, Arthur, Amid) on the Thunder Mages
Defeating Ishtore or whatever his name is. This kid's eyes are permanently glued shut but his aim is impeccable. Have Shannan equipped with the Balmunk stand in the range of the ballistas to bait al the enemies toward you. Let Shannan kill Ishtore with the Balmunk, if he gets badly injured, use Rana with her Libro staff or using Yuria and it will be fined.
