i tried following the directions in an faq to get the live ring, but nothing happens. does anyone else have this problem, and if not does anyone have a map or picture?

It's in the beach south of Chalphy castle. You MUST LET CELICE KILL ALVIS! Not just atack, he must be the one to kill him in order to get it. You can attack Alvis with other people but just make sure Celice is the one to deliver the finishing blow. Then just go to the beach directly south of the castle. If you land on the right space, you'll see the ghosts. I don't remember the exact spot but it's not hard to find.

You havn't said which life Ring. So il'l go through the one everyone forgot about.
If you didn't pass your First generation life ring (one you got off a Dragon knight in Chapter 3) down then Ishtars life ring will be a winnable item (the same logic applies to Yurious leg ring). The moral of the story is: Pass your rings down.
As for the second one, Read everyone elses posts.

How can you finish Alvis off with Holsety? There's no way Sety can beat Alvis. Fire beat wind for one thing, and Sety doesn't have the HP or magic defence to match Alvis.

How can you finish Alvis off with Holsety? There's no way Sety can beat Alvis. Fire beat wind for one thing, and Sety doesn't have the HP or magic defence to match Alvis. Surely not Sety, but SpyroDi said "I finished off with Holsety". That means that the Holsety user he has can be either Sety, Arthur or Corpul. Sety and Arthur have defintively not the staying power (HP + M.Def) to stand Alvis, but Corpul has it, since he has Blagi blood (plus Sylvia's personal good stat in M. Def), so that means Corpul can easily hit his M.Def stat cap (23). Add to that that Corpul can have a lifebar around 60 HP with Levin as his father, that means his staying power is at at least 83... And Alvis can dish out 70 pure damage points. Corpul will have 13 HP left, use Lynn to move him out of Alvis, or heal him after the battle, and he'll be fine. If you're not sure, you can add a Barrier Ring to increase his M.Def. Other thing not to forget : Corpul has Prayer... Shall it kicks in, and with the addition of Holsety, Fala Flame advantage other Holsety or not, we can assume Corpul WILL be intouchable. There's just a little bad thing here... Since Alvis' M. Def is at 40 with F.F., Corpul w/ Holsety will do little damage (22 pts per hit at best, with his Magic stat cap -27- + a Magic Ring)... But, well... 22 pts, it's not that bad, since Celice w/ Tylfing + Power Ring + max stat cap dishes 20 pts per hit to Alvis... |

Further, just because you finish someone off with Holsety doesn't mean you only used Holsety against them (although, with Holsety that's usually the case XD ). He could have whittled Alvis down with other characters.
