It's happening again

I'm playing through this game again for the last two weeks of my holidays, and I'm halfway through the Silesia chapter when everything starts going crazy. If I use the warp staff it locks up, if I try to save it locks up, when I tried to get the ring of Sylvia, it locked up, even when I cast a wind spell with Claude, it locked up.

Throughout the entire game I haven't been able to use the save function because it locks it up, so I've been relying on saved states, but if it continues to be crazy like this I won't be able to enjoy the game properly. If it's a problem with the rom could someone give me a link to one that isn't screwed, and if there is a simpler solution I'd appreciate that too. For the record I am running the most recent version of Zsnes.

Are you using a translation patch? That might be the problem. Or you can try the WIP Zsnes.

What's the WIP ZSNES?

The only problems I have with the translation patch is that some conversations in the beginning of chapters or after capturing castles don't appear or are glitchy. Sometimes it happens in the prologues of chapters as well.
