[glow=red,2,300]This contains an archive of all the FE6 plot translation done by kern. Keep checking back for more updates.[/glow]
Here you go. Same rules as the other translation stuff I did -- I can guarantee errors, but it should be pretty accurate. There are a couple of statements which I put in <brackets>, meaning I couldn't entirely figure out what that statement was saying and that it's basically an educated guess.
Please contact me before you post this translation anywhere or use it for any purpose.
Finally, I have no idea how far I will go with this -- unfortunately I'm the kind of person who starts projects way more often than he finishes them.
-----------
Prologue
Once there was a land where "humans" and "dragons" co-existed. They possessed great wisdom, and did not invade each other's domains. It was a peaceful life.@but then the humans ruined this peace by invading the dragon's land. There was a great war, and the defeated dragons left the continent. The humans settled the entire land and brought even the islands into their sphere. Now 1000 years have passed...
(The map comes up) - The land of Elb. This is where the humans, who have no predators, have expanded, while at the same time creating a number of different civilizations. - First, in the west there is a land called "Etruria Kingdom", which prides itself on its advanced civilization. - In the east there is the "Bern Kingdom" -- a stable kingdom with fortitude and valor. - Between those two kingdoms lie a number of smaller powers caught in the middle. A number of different lords have joined together to oppose the two kindgoms, calling themselves the "League of Lycia" [or "Lycian Alliance", which I like the sound of better despite the English on the map] - A band of knights joined with the people and cleared away the wild lands to make "Ilia". - "Saka", the place where horses run free, is home to a number of tribes. - To keep the balance there are a number of small conflicts, and everyone has protected that equilibrium up to now. However, that fragile balance was suddenly broken. - Zephyr, the king of Bern, began to invade the other lands. - The Bern army invaded places like Saka and Ilia, and utterly destroyed anyone who resisted. Then, the arm of Bern began to stretch as far as Lycia. - Lord Elwood was the ruler of Pherae, a land in the east of Lycia. His eldest son, Roy, was studying in the large city of Ostia in preperation to become the next ruler. - But Elwood, who had fallen ill, suddenly ordered Roy to return home. - Lilina, the beloved daughter of Elwood's dear friend Hector (the Duke of Ostia who was acting as Elwood's representative), had just finished travelling around Pherea[?]. - [This part seems to be saying that Roy took a sea route home with Bors and some others. I believe it also says that Lilina is with Elwood in Pherae] - And so, the story starts as Roy returns home...
Chapter 1 - The Breath of Fate
Person: Boss! It seems that everyone [Elwood & his knights] is holed up in the castle. Boss: Hmm, <we beat the sick Duke Elwood and his knights pretty easily.> Person: Hahaha, since Bern attacked, this area has become short of hands. You read the situation perfectly! Boss: Of course! But, soon they'll be able to call on reinforcements. You bastards, get rid of the people in the castle immediately! Then you can loot whatever you want from inside.
Brigand: Heheheh, the castle's not the only place with treasure in it. Meanwhile, we'll attack that village as well. (Brigand goes and destroys the town)
Marinus: Lord Elwood, there's bad news! The bandits from Bolm mountain are coming this way... Elwood: I see... Elwood: If I wasn't so sick, I'd show them a thing or two...(cough cough) Lilina: Uncle... [probably just a term of affection] Elwood: Lilina, please hide. This place will soon be a battlefield. Lilina: No! I'm going to fight too! Elwood: Don't be foolish. If anything happened to you I could never look Hector in the face again. Lilina: My father? B...But... Elwood: Don't worry. Roy should be coming here soon. If we can just hold out until then, everything will be fine. Marinus! Dispatch a messenger to Roy immediately, and tell him the situation! Marinus: Y...yes, sir!
Roy: You're Lance, right? Why are you in such a hurry? Lance: Lord Roy, the bandits have surrounded the castle and attacked! Alan: What? How are Lord Elwood and the rest? Lance: Right now he's holding out inside the castle, but with his illness... Bors: Sir Lance, one question! How is Lilina? Lance: Lilina and the others from Ostia are in the castle as well. They're with Lord Elwood, so don't worry. <The bandits will never make it inside.> Roy: Damn...I shouldn't have sent Lilina ahead of me. Wolt: Lord Roy, save your regrets for later. Let's head to the castle! Marcus: Wolt's right, Lord Roy. We have to hurry! Roy: Yeah. Let's go, everyone! We have to rescue my father and the others!
(Battle Start)
(After the first turn) Boss: Damn, they're already here! But, they won't reach the castle without a fight!
Houses: 1 - "The soldiers of Bern were able to cross the Lycian border and attack us. Even though the allied lords will strike back against Bern, I fear for Lord Elwood given his health..." 2 - "If you're going to do well in battle, make sure to use the terrain wisely. If you're in a forest, the trees will get in the way and make it harder for the enemy to attack." 3 - "Money is important! If you don't have that, you can't really do anything." (or something like that, it's a pretty useless house)
Town: "Hey there! You're going to the castle, right? This may not be much, but it represents the feeling of the villagers. Please use it well!" (5000 gold)
(When you make your first attack against the Boss) Boss: Idiot! You're going to have a tough time with this group!
(When you defeat the Boss) Boss: Ugh...
(Once the castle is conquered) Roy: Father! Lilina! Elwood: Ah, Roy! Lilina: Roy! Roy: Father! Lilina! I'm glad you're all right. Elwood: Thanks for coming from so far away. Roy: No problem. Father, how are you? Elwood: I'm fine. I'll survive somehow. But anyway, Roy, you understand why I called you back here, right? Roy: I understand. I'm supposed to lead the Pherae army and join the Lycian Alliance force, right? Elwood: Exactly. The eastern kingdom of Bern has started to invade Lycia. The Alliance is bound by an ancient oath -- that they must act to defend these lands. Roy: Right. Elwood: Although I'm unhappy that I had to pull you away from your study, with my health in this condition I can't do anything. Roy: Father... Lilina: Uncle Elwood, I'm going with Roy! My father should be in the Alliance army, and I can help Roy a little bit with my magic. Elwood: No, Lilina, you will return to Ostia. Lilina: Why? Elwood: Beacuse right now Ostia lacks a leader, and they hear nothing but bad news. As the successor to Ostia, you have a duty there. Do you understand? Lilina: Yes... Elwood: Roy, first you must go to the Bern borders and join up with the mercenaries there. I will send Marinus with you. He may be weak-hearted, but he knows a lot and he will be of use to you. Roy: Thank you for everything, father. Elwood: It's all right, you can do it. As the successor to the house of Pherae, fight well! Roy: All right!
Lilina: Bors, I have a request. Bors: I understand. In your place I will definitely protect Lord Roy. Lilina: Thank you.
Lilina: Roy, be careful. Roy: Yeah. You too, Lilina!

Once again, if something is in the angle <brackets>, then I couldn't really tell for sure what it meant. What's in there is an educated guess but it's possible that it's totally wrong.
(These narrative sections contain so many relative clauses that it's hard to translate them exactly the way they appear in the Japanese. In some cases I've simply omitted the clauses since they don't really add any new information -- for instance just "Pherae" instead of "Pherae, which is a part of the Lycia region".)
In the mountains around the Pherae Dukedom and the neighboring Bern Kingdom, there is a small village. Roy and his Pherae troops planned to go to this village to join with the mercenaries working for Elwood. To the east of this village, near the mountains, there is a castle that protects the Bern Kingdom. And while Roy was visiting the town, there was something unusual going on in the castle. Roy did not yet know that this disturbance would shake the very foundations of civilization.
Chapter 2 - The Princess of Bern
Milady: Look, I'm asking you when the king's sister left! Lude: B...But, Milady, she was in her room this morning... Milady: How many times have I heard that! The reason I'm here is to find out where she is now! Lude: W..Well... Milady: The deciding battle with the Lycian Alliance is almost at hand. What would we do if something happened to her? Lude: ... Milady: If we hurry up and search the area, we should be able to stop her. Tell them that I've gone back to the palace town. Find the princess before any trouble arises! Lude: Yes, ma'am! (Milady flies away)
Lude: Any word on Lady Guinivere? Soldier: Yes...as per your orders, she's being watched in the basement. Lude: Good. Don't let her escape. Soldier: Uh...are you sure we should be doing this? Lude: Don't worry. Right now there are many powers opposing our country.@if we hand the King of Bern's sister over to any of them, we'll be well compensated. Soldier: ... Lude: Anyway, we'll never rise to any great heights working for this kingdom. So we might as well come up with ways to make money quickly, right? Soldier: Y...yes. But there's just one problem with this plan. Lude: What do you mean? Soldier: We just learned that the nun serving Lady Guinivere has escaped... Lude: What the hell!? Why didn't you tell me sooner! Start searching immediately! Don't let her get away!
Marinus: Lord Roy, here we are. Roy: This is where we join with the mercenaries? Marinus: Yes. But, they haven't shown their faces yet. Oh, Lord Roy, someone's coming...
Roy: It's dangerous here! Elen: S...sorry....I traveled quickly, though. Roy: Were you attacked? We're OK here, but how are you? Elen: Ah...I'm fine. Thanks. Roy: I'm glad you weren't hurt. Elen: Umm...you're from Lycia, right? Roy: Yes. I'm the son of the ruler of Pherae. Elen: Oh, God, I thank you for your guidance! Roy: Hmm? Elen: Can you help my mistress? Roy: What's wrong? Elen: My mistress came here to meet the assembled lords of the Lycian Alliance. But Lude, the ruler of the local castle, set a trap for her and captured her. Marinus: Lord Roy, you can't do that. It's not a good idea to fight Bern here for no real purpose. Roy: We're not going to abandon someone who came here to see us. But, we won't just rush in... Roy: !! Soldier: There she is! Do whatever you can to get to her, even if you have to kill them all! [or maybe "even at the cost of your own lives!", it's not entirely clear to me] Elen: Oh no... Roy: Marinus, they came to us. So we really can't avoid fighting them, can we? Marinus: Arrgh, you're just not going to listen to me, are you. Fine then, show them how advanced the people of Ostia are! Roy: All right! Head towards the Bern Kingdom castle! Sister, we'll take you to a safe place. Elen: No, please take me with you. I can't fight, but I can heal the people who get hurt. Roy: But... Elen: Let me be of help, since I just suddenly appeared and asked you a favor. Roy: I understand. That's a reasonable request. Elen: I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
(Battle Start)
(After the first turn) Dieck: This should be the place...Thany, see if the Pherae army is in this area. Thany: OK!
Wade: Dieck, who's our current employer? Dieck: House Pherae, one of the allied lords of Lycia. The successor to that house should be with the Lycian Alliance. Lot: And our enemy is the Bern Kingdom? Dieck: Seems that way. Wade: Hehehe, sounds fun. Let's get ready. Lot: Bern, eh? They're some tough fighters; we can't be careless.
Thany: To the west I found a group! But they seem to be fighting a small force. Dieck: Hmm, it's already started? Let's hurry! (Back to Battle)
(Dieck talks to Roy) Dieck: Roy of House Pherae...that's you? Roy: Who are you? Dieck: I'm Dieck. I thought that old man Marinus would have told you I was coming. Roy: Then, you're the leader of the mercenaries? Dieck: <"Mercenaries" is an exaggeration>. Sorry, but we didn't realize the fighting had started. Roy: Sorry about that, some stuff happened... Dieck: Apology's not necessary. Anyway, everyone's eager for a chance to show their strength. Roy: Thanks for letting me know. Dieck: OK.
Houses: 1 - "The bow has great power against flying enemies. If they're stupid enough to get close, you can tear a Pegasus' wings and bring dragons down to the earth. Watch out." 2 - "Sword, Axe, Spear. Those three weapons have certain affinities with each other. Swords are strong against axes. Axes are strong against spears. And spears are strong against swords. Swords are strong against axes...If you just remember that, the rest is easy." 3 - "The forts are the key to this kingdom's defense. If you're there, it's much easier. The enemy attacks will miss easily, and the damage will be reduced. Also, your wounds are slightly healed."
Town: "Oh, you really saved us. If those people had gotten here, I don't know what would have happened to this sword. I was really scared. I'm pretty weak, but you guys..." (Armor Killer)
(When you reach Lude) Lude: <At last, you're here.>
(When you beat Lude) Lude: <Ugh...my greed didn't get me anywhere...>
(After capturing the castle) Marinus: Lord Roy! There was a girl locked up in one of the dungeons! Roy: It must be Elen's mistress. Bring here here, please. Marinus: Yes, sir! Elen: Princess! Guinivere: Elen! Oh, I'm so grateful you're not hurt. Quiet Elen, doing such a rash thing...even though you did it for me, you worried me quite a bit! Elen: I...I'll do anything to help you, Princess. Guinivere: It's fine, Elen. Thank you very much.
Guinivere: It seems that I owe you a debt of gratitude. I'm sorry, but you are... Roy: I am Roy, the son of Duke Elwood of Pherae. Guinivere: I see...sorry for not telling you earlier, but... Elen: Wait... Guinivere: It's fine, Elen. Guinivere: My name is Guinivere. Roy: Guinivere!? Wait, so you are King Bern's sister... Guinivere: Yes. Marinus: What!? You bitch, shamelessly requesting help from your enemies... Roy: Hold on, Marinus. Marinus: But, Lord Roy... Roy: I don't care, I want to talk to her. I'm sorry, but can you leave for a moment? Marinus: Hrm, if Lord Roy says so. Roy: You really are Princess Guinivere? Guinivere: Yes. I know you won't believe me at just my word... Roy: <I believe you.> [Sorry, I tried to get the exact meaning of this but it's just not clear to me. For a while I thought he was agreeing with Guinivere that he'd need more proof, but now I think he's saying that proof is not necessary. Maybe something from the next chapter will help.]

Araphen Castle is situated immediately north of the Pherae region. The Lycian Alliance gathered here first, and continued to discuss their plan to oppose Bern. Roy's army held Guinivere, an important key to the fight, and they hurried to join up with the Alliance. However, when they were about half a day from Araphen, a message came from the castle. The missive contained absolutely unbelievable information. "The Lycian Alliance has been attacked by an army led by General Berunia and General Nashen, two of the 'Three Dragon Generals', and has been almost completely destroyed." The Lycian Alliance, which had such pride in its valor, had been suddenly defeated...while stunned by what had happened, Roy set out for Araphen Castle to see how great the damage was, and if there were any survivors.
Chapter 3 - The Latecomers
Berunia: Your highness, we have the enemy leader. Zephyr: Bring him here. Hector: Ugh...you're King Zephyr of Bern! Damn you, you bastard... Zephyr: Duke Hector of Ostia. As expected, the Lycian Alliance leader fought through two of my Dragon Generals to get here - or so I'd like to say. Actually it seems that you floundered and ended up like this. Quite different, I'd say. Hector: Why... Zephyr: Hmm? Hector: For generations the lords of Lycia had very good relations with the neighboring kingdom of Bern...Even in your reign we didn't fail to pay you our respect. Given that, why... Zephyr: Respect? You bore me. I will control Lycia...no, this entire continent -- in order to liberate the world. So I don't have time for worthless things like your "respect". Hector: "Liberate", you say? Zephyr: You are about to die, so that doesn't concern you. Someone take the duke of Ostia and throw him into the dungeons. Soldier: Yes, sir! Berunia: Then I'll be returning to the Saka Plains, your highness. Zephyr: Hmm...do you have something to ask me? Berunia: Your highness, forgive me for bringing this up. But are you sure you want to put such a suspicious person in a position of power? Zephyr: You're talking about Idun? Berunia: Among the soldiers she's known as the "Dark Sorceress". And there are so many unknown and bizarre things about her. Even if you say she's a powerful Shaman... Zephyr: Berunia, don't you believe in what I'm doing? Berunia: Of course I do! I was just... Zephyr: Then I'd prefer if you just stuck to following my orders. Understood? Berunia: Yes. Everything will be as you command.
Zephyr: "Don't you believe in me?"...why did I ask such a stupid question.
Roy: Hector is really alive? Chad: Yep, no mistake. I saw the Bern soldiers take him in the castle myself. Roy: You're Chad, right? Do you know the inside of Araphen pretty well? Chad: I might...you guys going in to rescue him? I wouldn't do that if I were you. It looks like most of the troops have left, but there's still a big force here. With just this band, you'll be walking to your deaths. Roy: I understand, but we're not going to lose the Duke of Ostia. So the main force isn't here? Then we have a chance... Chad: I see...Fine, then I'll come with you and show you around the castle. Roy: What? That's not necessary...you can just tell us about it. Chad: I hate Bern as well. Let me fight with you, OK? Roy: All right. You can be a messenger. Chad: No way! I'm going to pick the gate locks and the open the treasure chests!
Guinivere: Lord Roy...I'm sorry, my brother...he's attacked Lycia so quickly. If there's anything I can do.... Roy: Princess, you don't need to start making apologiesB Don't blame yourself, please. Anyway, Lycia is still all right. As long as we can save Hector, the leader of the Alliance, Lycia can again fight as one! For that, we must capture this castle. Yes, for Lilina also... Guinivere: ... Roy: Everyone, let's go!
(After the first turn) Lugh: Then, Father, please take care of everyone. Priest: All right. Our Elminu Order will watch over of all the orphans. Lugh, what are you going to do? Lugh: I'm going to stay here a bit longer. There's still something I have to do. Priest: I see...don't do anything foolish. Lugh: OK, thanks. Lugh: Everyone, please do what the Father says. Kid: Lugh, you're not coming with us? Lugh: I'm going to wait for Chad, then I'll catch up with you. Kid: Neat! Chad's coming too? Lugh: Yep. Kid: Then, then, Rei better come too! Lugh: Right...Rei will return too. Everyone will go together. Priest: OK, let's go. Kid: See you later, Lugh. Kid: Hurry up! Lugh: OK. Sorry, everyone, but I'm not running away. Definitely not.
(After the third turn) Zephyr: Nashen! What's all that noise? Nashen: It must be the remnants of the enemy force. ‚È‚É@‚Æ‚é‚É‚Æ‚ç‚Ê‚à‚Ì‚½‚¿‚Å‚·B Idun: Your Highness, should we use the dragons? Nashen: No. We'll defeat them with our own hands, without the help of the "Dark Sorceress". Idun: ... Zephyr: Idun, this time it's fine. Just have the Dragons go back to Bern as planned. Idun: Your will be done, majesty. Nashen: ...
Zephyr: I'm returning to Bern as well. Nashen, I leave the Lycia thing to you. Nashen: What should I do with the remnants? Zephyr: Kill everyone who opposes us, to the last man. Nashen: The women and children too? Zephyr: Of course. Annihilate everyone, until the feeling of opposition towards Bern is completely gone. Nashen: Leave it to me. Heh heh heh...
Nashen: Hehehe...<His highness won't care what happens to that girl, then.> Then, I'm going too -- Slater, I leave the castle in your hands. Slater: You're leaving? Nashen: Yeah. An interesting present has been prepared for me by the person who betrayed Lycia.@the daughter of an Etrurian noble...hehehe.... Slater: An Etrurian....that sounds like a beautiful thing. Nashen: Yes...she's still young, and thus very pretty. Slater: That's something to look forward to. Take care in your travels. Nashen: You take care as well. Don't let the last vestiges of Lycia snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. If that happens, I'll tear you limb from limb. Slater: Surely you jest... Nashen: Ha ha ha...
Towns: 1 Lugh: Excuse me -- you're from the Lycian army who's fighting against Bern, right? Please, let me fight with you! I don't have any useful information, but I can use a little big of magic! Please let me join with you to protect everyone from Bern! (Lugh joins) 2 Woman: You're the remnants of the Lycian army, right? Here, take this and go quickly...there are a bunch of Bern soldiers here. Bern may govern this whole area, but we're friends of Lycia! (Relive staff)
(Lugh and Chad speak) Lugh: Chad! You're all right! Chad: Lugh? What are you doing here? Lugh: I escaped with everyone else. Chad: I see...so how are the others? Lugh: At the moment, the Elminu Order is taking care of them. Chad: And you? Lugh: Yeah? Chad: Why did you stay here by yourself? Lugh: The same reason as you. Chad: What! Lugh, you... Lugh: I can use a little bit of magic. Look, I took this "fire" volume from the Director's room... Chad: Lugh, I didn't think you could bring yourself to hurt someone. Lugh: But... Chad: I'll take revenge for the Director. I'm coming with you also. Lugh: I'm not just going to hide anymore. Whenever we do that, everyone dies. The Director, Chad, even Rei...I want to fight to protect all the people that are important to me. I'm sick of being protected -- I want do to the protecting!! Chad: Lugh...All right. Let's go defeat Bern quickly and then we'll see everyone again! Lugh: Yeah!

(Roy supports Wolt) Roy: Wolt! Wolt: Lord Roy, what is it? Roy: 'Roy' is fine -- we've always been like brothers. Wolt: I'm happy that you feel that way, but the distiction between us is important. Roy: Is that right? It seems that Wolt has grown apart from me... Wolt: What are you talking about? I'm right here by your side, aren't I? Roy: That's not what I meant. Wolt: Hahaha, I understand. Roy: ... Wolt: Now, don't make such a sad face. Buck up and let's keep going!
(When you first attack Slater) Slater: I..I can't lose! If I do...
(When you kill Slater) Slater: Lord Nashen...forgive me!
Marinus: Lord Roy, the Duke of Ostia was in the dungeons! Roy: Good! Is he all right? Marinus: Well, he has been severely wounded... Hector: Is that Roy? Roy: Lord Hector! That wound looks terrible! We'll tend to it immediately. Here, let me help you walk. Hector: Don't worry about that. I don't have much longer... Roy: Lord Hector... Hector: It was stupid . Bern has really revived the dragons... Roy: Dragons!? Hector: Yes...the Dragons who once fought us humans... Roy: The "Human-Dragon War"? I've heard something about that. A long time ago, the war was fought between the Dragons and the Humans, Elb Continent's two races, for control of the entire land. Hector: Yes....because of the deeds of the heroes called the "Eight Divine Generals", the humans were eventually victorious. Roy: Yes, but it's said that the dragons left the continent entirely. I thought that dragons existed only in the legends. Hector: That's what everyone thought. But there are dragons...not dragons that can fight, though. Roy: Then what is Bern doing with them? Hector: I don't know...but, Bern was once the dragon's prosperous land...and, Bern's founder was one of the "Eight Divine Generals"....Haltomut...the reason must be in this region somewhere...(cough cough) Roy: Lord Hector! Hector: Roy...go to Ostia. I want you to be there in my stead and lead the remaining army. Roy: But that...it's too much for me... Hector: Don't worry...in Ostia there are weapons that are effective against the Dragons... Roy: Weapons? Hector: I already told my daughter Lilina about them ...about my daughter...even though she has a stout-hearted appearance, she's still just a child. Please, take care of her... Roy: ...I understand. You can trust me. Hector: Lilina...just one more glimpse...(cough) Roy: Lord Hector!!
-----
So, the plot is thickening! Like most strategy RPGs, the initial setup plot (Lycia vs. Bern) was scrapped almost immediately with a plot twist and now the hero has a new quest. I imagine that will change again in a few chapters, but we'll see.
Also, the "sorcerer controlling a king" plot is a bit cliched, but what isn't in the sword-and-sorcery fantasy world?

After receiving Hector's dying wish, Roy and his army went to take charge of Lilina. They set their sights on Ostia and began to move west. On the way, they drew near the Laus region, which was controlled by Erik, one of the Lycian lords. Grassy plains as far as the eye can see, and rivers praised for their plentiful flow -- in this quiet land of Laus, a dark plot showed itself before Roy's eyes as he steadily marched on.
Chapter 4 - The Collapse of the Alliance
Erik: You...you're Lord Nashen. Nashen: Erik, is it? So you're coming over to Bern's side... Erik: As long as we are trapped by this old oath we have no future. Our future is with the Bern Kingdom... Nashen: An excellent attitude. Hahaha.... Anyway, where's your gift? She doesn't seem to be here. Erik: Oh, of course! The gift has been prepared in another room. Hehehe...she's a young, naive girl.@with her brother out on military duty, she fell into our hands easily. Hey, bring her here! Clarine: Where am I? Where's my brother Klein? Nashen: Welcome, Lady Clarine. Clarine: Who are you? Nashen: I am Nashen, one of the Three Dragon Generals of Bern.@<I'm going to take care of you in your brother's place.>...heh heh heh Clarine: kusu.. Nashen: ? What's so funny, Lady Clarine? Clarine: "In my brother's place"? You? Go look at yourself in a mirror. That skin, that hairstyle, that speech...everything about you is vulgar [or "coarse", "low class" -- the word does not mean vulgar as in "gross" or "disgusting"]. Nashen: V...Vulgar! I'm vulgar? Clarine: Comparing you to my brother is like comparing the moon to a mud turtle! Nashen: You don't get to say that to me, bitch! You're much more vulgar than me!
Soldier: Lord Nashen! We've received a report that Araphen castle has been retaken by the enemies! Nashen: What! And Slater? Soldier: We don't know where he is. The enemy was Lord Roy of Pherae house, the house that leads the remnants of the Alliance.
Clarine: ... Nashen: Damn! Erik, take this girl and throw her in the dungeon! I'll punish her severely when I get back. Then block the road to Ostia -- those bastards will be here soon. Soldier: Yes, sir!
(Battle Start)
(After the first turn) Clarine: I can't believe I'm stuck here... Voice: Hey... Clarine: Who is that? Rutger: I'm one of this castle's mercenaries. Let's go, Lord Erik wants to see you. Clarine: No! Why do I have to see those vulgar men... Rutger: Shut up and go! Clarine: Hey, let go of me, you rude fellow! Do you know who I am? Rutger: ... Clarine: I said let go of me!
(After the second turn) Clarine: Let go of me! I said let go! Rutger: Be quiet! You're going to run away. Clarine: ! You... Rutger: There's a horse tied up behind that tree over there. Get on and get out of here as fast as you can! Clarine: Why? Why are you helping me? Rutger: Because I have a grudge against Bern. Clarine: A grudge? Rutger: That doesn't concern you. Clarine: <When you say that it just makes me want to know even more.> Rutger: You're wasting time. Go quickly! Clarine: ...
Clarine: This...it's the middle of a battlefield! That swordsman isn't very sensible! A true gentleman would escort me all the way home! Hrm...but, if I go west and find my brother...I can't believe he was driven out of his home. How cruel! What should I do?
(After the third turn) Pirate: [There's too much slang in this -- I'm pretty sure it basically says that with Bern and Lycia fighting they can come in and plunder.]
(After the fourth turn) Erik: Ah, you're here! I've been waiting for you. Rutger: And? Erik: Our soldiers are fighting a hard fight out there. I want you to bring as many men as you can to help. Rutger: ... Erik: Are you deaf! I want this done right now! Rutger: Yes, as soon as I'm ready I'll go. Erik: Damn, what a rude man. But at least he's strong.
(Clarine talks to Roy) [Clarine speaks to Roy as if he were a servant or something] Clarine: Just a moment, you! Roy: Me? Clarine: Who else would I be talking to? Are you the leader of these troops? Roy: Yes... Clarine: That's fine. Protect me. Roy: What? Clarine: Didn't you hear me? I said protect me. Marinus: What the hell? Shut up, little girl! Clarine: I wasn't speaking to you, so please step back. Marinus: W..What? Roy: Calm down, Marinus. She's being chased by people from the castle, so don't we want to protect her? Clarine: Yes, exactly. Marinus: What's with your impudent manner? We don't take kindly to little girls who aren't going to be of any use to us! Clarine: My name is Clarine! Stop calling me "little girl", all right? As for "no use to you", that's not true! I can use a staff and heal the wounded. Roy: Perhaps you would fight alongside us? Clarine: Of...of course! I didn't mean to say that I wouldn't do anything if you protected me... Roy: Then, consider yourself rescued! Our opponent is Bern. They have a lot of troops, therefore you can be a lot of help. My name is Roy. Pleased to meet you, Clarine. Clarine: Pleased to m....hey, don't get any ideas!
(After the fifth turn ) Rutger: ...
(Clarine talks to Rutger) Clarine: Oh! You're... Rutger: What, you're still here? Clarine: "Still"? You put me out into the middle of a battle and then say that to me? If I had made one mistake I'd have ended up dead! Rutger: Well, luckily you're not dead. Anything else? Clarine: Wait! You're just going to ignore me and leave? You're a gentleman, and as a gentlemen you have a reponsibility. Rutger: Responsibility? What would that be? Clarine: Once you save a lady, you must escort her to her home. That's a gentleman's duty! I've never heard a minstrel tell a story where the lady was just left to herself. Rutger: What the hell are you talking about? Clarine: You said you had a grudge towards Bern, right? Then, why don't you join up with these people who are fighting against Bern? Rutger: Hold on! Is that true? Clarine: Umm...is what true? Rutger: This army is fighting against Bern? Clarine: Y...yes. I heard that from Roy, the leader. Rutger: All right. Clarine: Hmm? Rutger: I don't have any problem fighting with you guys. Clarine: Er...OK. Geez! It's not "fighting Bern" that's important, it's "protecting me"!
(Wade supports Lot) Wade: Hey, who's next? C'mon!!! Lot: Wade, can't you calm down a bit during the fight? Wade: Hey now, Lot! Are you turning into a coward? Lot: How the hell can you ask that! Wade: Then it's OK, right? I fight with everything I have. <I'll follow you wherever you go, so why does it matter?> Lot: Yeah, that's true... Wade: Then, what's the problem? Lot: <Because Mary asked me sincerely to tell you that.> Wade: Our sister? C'mon, we're not kids anymore. Lot: <Yeah right...> Wade: Hmm? What did you say? Lot: Oh, nothing.
Houses: 1 - "The mountain bandits and pirates attack towns. Once they destroy a town, there won't be anything left. If any enemies start moving towards a town, make sure to save it!" 2 - "In the Laus army, there are mounted soldiers who use bows. This is the nomad tribe. They are useful mercenaries to the Saka tribes and the Iria Knights to the north. It this age, it seems that everyone wants military might." 3 - "Do you the main point of combat? Swords are strong against axes. Axes are strong against spears. And, spears are strong against swords. Before you go to sleep, recite those three things. What? You already know that? Well then, how's this. There are weapons that go against those points. They're called 'buster' weapons."
Towns: 1 (near start) - "If you don't have a thief, you won't be able to open chests and doors. Only a thief can use the Thief Keys. But, look at this key! Anyone can use this and open a door. It's called the 'Gate Key'! You should thank me, this is a very valuable item! Also, you can buy these at an item shop for now. (Gate Key)
2 (in the south) - "I can't believe this war is happening...<under Bern's leadership this village will wither.> Please, take this village back from the Bern soldiers! Here, this is a piece of clothing that will magically increase your life. If you use this, even if you are seriously wounded you will remain standing. However, you can only use it once. It's a very precious item, so please think carefully about using it." (Angel's Clothes)
3 (in the north) - "Everyone here is your ally. We're not about to abandon the land in which we were born and change sides. You should take this treasured sword. It's a very valuable item. Wait, don't touch it yet. Look at the wonderful sparkle. Makes you sigh, doesn't it? This was given to us four generations ago by the king." (Large Steel Sword)

(When you first fight Erik) Erik: Idiots, to be trapped by an oath sworn by nobles...I'll show you the truth of the world!
(When you beat Erik) Erik: Ugh...idiots...when you oppose the strong, no matter what you do there's no future for you...
Marinus: Lord Roy! The resistance from the Laus army has stopped. Roy: All right then, we'll rest for now. Tell everyone. Marinus: Yes, sir.
Guinivere: Lord Roy, are you all right? Roy: I can't believe that Erik went over to Bern...I always thought that the Lycian alliance was solid and unbreakable. Those Bern bastards, using such dirty tactics... Guinivere: I'm sorry. Roy: Ah...I apologize! I spoke without thinking of your feelings... Guinivere: No, don't worry about that. Roy: Next we're continuing west to Ostia. But now, Lord Hector is dead, and none of the other lords are really fit to take his place. The hope for peace....it seems unlikely. Do you want to return home? Whatever help I can give you... Guinivere: No, if it's not much trouble I'd like to continue travelling with you. Roy: It's no trouble....but why?@ Guinivere: My brother is mistaken. Fighting humans and reviving the dragons...what my brother calls the "liberation" of the world -- I want to stop it. Roy: The "liberation" of the world? Guinivere: Yes, that's what my brother says -- that it's necessary to "liberate" the world. That's what this fight is about. Roy: What does that mean? Guinivere: That I don't know...but my brother's not the type of person just to go after world conquest. There has to be some greater reason. But even so, starting a war and taking innocent lives... Roy: Princess Guinivere...

The discovery of Lord Erik's betrayal shocked Roy and his army. If Erik was not the only traitor, then <their troubles weren't over yet.> Lycia, Roy's homeland...it could no longer be called "peaceful". In order to avoid unneccesary danger on their way to Ostia, Roy decided to take the army on an old road through the sparsely populated mountains.
Chapter 5 - The Fire Emblem [Here it is "honoo no monshou", whereas in the actual game the Fire Emblem is written just as "faiaa emburemu"]
Bandit: Boss! The scouts that were sent to the village earlier are back. Dree: Oh, have they stolen stuff from the village like usual? Bandit: No, not this time...it looks like there's an army close by. Dree: An army!? Why does an army have to come through this broken-down road in the mountains!? Bandit: I have no idea, but it looks like the Lycian army. Dree: Oh, it's just the remnants of the defeated Lycian Alliance? Nothing to be afraid of. Bandit: Yeah. Dree: Well, we don't need any special preperations. If we can beat them we should be able to get a valuable treasure. Let's give them a special "welcome".
Marinus: Lord Roy! The villagers have something to ask of you. Hey, Manta! Manta: Oh! You're Roy of Pherae House, right? Roy: That's right. What do you want? Manta: We want you to exterminate the bandits! Roy: Bandits? Manta: They've made their home in an old castle in the pass. Roy: Aren't there any soldiers to protect you? Manta: Once they heard that the Lycian Alliance had lost, they scattered and ran away. Those of us who are left have to live being surrounded by those bandits. Roy: ... Manta: There's no one else we can ask. Please, help us! Marinus: Lord Roy, it's a sad story. But we have to hurry... Roy: Yes, I understand. But we're not going to just move on and ignore the people around us. Marinus: Lord Roy!? Manta: Please, help us! If necessary, I can open the secret gate for you. It's never used, and if you go through there you'll be right next to the castle. Roy: I understand. Manta: I'll wait by the gate and open it when you come near. Roy: Marinus! Let's go to the castle and drive away the bandits! Marinus: Geez, not again...
(After the first turn) Yoder: All right, Dorothy, I leave it to you. Please tell Saul what I said as well. Dorothy: Yes, Father Yoder. Now, where did that priest go...[I'm not sure at all -- something about her being Saul's bodyguard and someone's selfishness, but beyond that...]
Young woman: Father [not "dad", but a priest], sorry to bother you, but I... Saul: Ah, you don't have to say anymore. Tonight you can listen to my sermon at your leisure... Dorothy: Oh, there you are. Father! Saul: Hmm, Dorothy. Young woman: Well, I'll be going... Saul: Wait! Geez. Look, Dorothy. She ran away because you had such a scary expression on your face. Dorothy: I was born with a scary face! And anyway, Father, you were talking to a girl again. [i.e. flirting] Saul: Don't misunderstand me...I just try to save the souls of lost sheep... Dorothy: Then why "tonight"? Saul: Anyway, did you have some business with me? Dorothy: Yeah. The Lycian Alliance army is coming this way. Saul: What! So then, Princess Guinivere will be there too. Dorothy: Assuming the information from the Elminu headquarters wasn't incorrect. Saul: Don't even think about that. Come on, let's meet up with the Lycian Alliance as quickly as we can. Dorothy: ... Saul: What is it, Dorothy? Dorothy: Princess Guinivere is supposed to be very beautiful, right? Saul: What are you talking about? Let's go. Dorothy: OK!
(When you reach the wall) Man: Oh, I heard about you. Wait just a moment and I'll open it for you. Dree[boss]: W..what? There was a gate in that wall? Damn, how clever...
Houses: 1 - [Something about capturing a fort if you don't want enemies to come out of it] 2 - "When the northeast castle of Araphen was attacked by Bern, I was there. The Dragon Knights of Bern were terrifying, but even more terrifying....I saw it. Something that breathed fire and engulfed the Lycian troops, completely destroying them. A dragon....I think I dreamed it. Strange, isn't it. But, a dragon....please, tell me it was a dream. Tell me that wasn't real!" 3 - "This whole area is like the bandits' garden. They know about fighting in the mountains, and they can cross them just fine. Oh, how scary..."
Town: 1 - "Hold on, you. Why don't you take this spear with you? I think that at some point a really powerful Armor Knight used it. It's just a rumor, but I heard that he bested 20 of Bern's most powerful fighters in the arena with it. He fought with a cheerful young boy and a pretty young woman against Bern.[something's wrong with this last part but I can't get back to the town to find out without playing the whole stage again]"
(When you first fight Dree): Dree: No one has yet survived even a single attack from me. You there, ready to try?
(When you beat Dree): Dree: Ugh! No...I don't want to die yet...
(After you capture the castle): Marinus: Lord Roy!! A terrible thing has happened. One of the Elminu Order priests has come here to visit Lord Roy and Princess Guinivere! Roy: Are you saying he knows that Princess Guinivere is with me? Marinus: Yes. What should I do? Roy: I don't know. Well, let me meet with him alone. Guinivere: Lord Roy, don't worry about me. I'd like to hear what he has to say. Roy: Princess? Guinivere: Actually, the relations between my brother and the Elminu Order have grown worse in the past year. I don't know for sure, but it doesn't seem like the Order people would be enemies. Roy: You don't think so? All right then, show him in. Saul: Lord Roy, pleased to meet you. My name is Saul from the Elminu Order. Roy: Pleased to meet you. Saul: And...oh! You're Princess Guinivere, right? You're different from the rumors...much more beautiful! Guinivere: ...? Saul: Now, Princess Guinivere, I want to know the location of the Fire Emblem. You know where it is, right? Guinivere: !! How do you know that... Saul: I talked to our headquarters in Bern. The Fire Emblem has disappeared from the Sealed Temple. And at the same time, you disappeared from Bern. Guinivere: ... Saul: I was sent here by the Order to find out the truth. Why? Why the Fire Emblem? Guinivere: To stop my brother. Saul: Brother...that's His Highness Zephyr, the King of Bern, right? Guinivere: Yes. Saul: Do you know what kind of item the Fire Emblem is? Guinivere: The Fire Emblem is a key that awakes the sword that can seal the dragons. My father told me that a long time ago. But I'm not sure exactly what it means...all I know is that my brother was afraid of anyone else having the Fire Emblem. Saul: Of enemies having the Fire Emblem, probably. He probably thinks that it would be a way form them to stop his conquest of the world. Guinivere: Yes. <But then the fighting started...> Saul: I am a representative sent by the Elminu Order. What are you going to do now? Guinivere: Do I have to answer that right now? Saul: <What are you thinking?> Guinivere: The road to peace isn't clear to me yet... Saul: All right, then, would it be acceptable if I travelled with you? Guinivere: If Lord Roy says it's all right. Roy: I don't mind. Guinivere: Lord Roy...I've caused you so much trouble. Roy: No, don't worry about that. <Your "road to peace" will become clear in the end.> Guinivere: Yes...

Saul, a priest of the Elminu Order, and Dorothy, his bodyguard, joined with Roy's army. They left the mountain road and entered Thria, a land in the southeast of Lycia. The cousin of the dead lord of Ostia, named Orun, was there. He had a gentle personality. Roy thought that the castle Orun ruled would be the first place they could rest safely. But, even here the evil hand of Bern had a firm grasp...
Chapter 6 - The Hidden Trap
Cass: Geez...I was able to sneak in, but there's nothing interesting here. The northern annex is under heavy guard and I can't get near. But there's supposed to be good stuff there! Uh-oh, footsteps...
Wagner: Everything's going fine. Soldier: Yes. Every part of the palace has soldiers stationed in it. Wagner: Invite them into the main room and then immediately attack. Just like when we assassinated Lord Orun. Soldier: Yes, sir. Wagner: Do not hurt Princess Guinvere, but kill everyone else without question. Hehehe...the treasure in the north annex, the granddaughter of the Grey Wolf, and now Princess Guinivere...Bern will pay us dearly for those presents. Thief: Hmm...that's very interesting.
Marinus: Man, what a feeling of relief, Lord Roy. Tonight we can sleep soundly for the first time in a while! Roy: What do you think? That man who is a close associate of Thria... Marinus: Wagner? What, did he hurt your feelings? Roy: Regardless of what he said, wasn't he acting like he owned the place? And this story about Lord Thria being so sick we can't meet him or even see his face... Marinus: Hmm, you're right. Saul: Lord Roy! Excuse me. There are a bunch of soldiers marching around the palace. Dorothy: They're just standing guard, don't you think? Roy: No way... Dorothy: Ah-hah, good intuition!
Roy: Who's that! Thief: Hello! Roy: Who are you? Thief: Don't worry about me. You should be concerned with what I overheard in the main hall -- they're planning a surprise attack on you. Roy: Lord Thria isn't like that! Thief: Ah, that person...I think he was assassinated by that strange black magician. Roy: What!? Thief: And they're going to use you as a present for the King of Bern. Marinus: Lord Roy, you can't just believe what some random person says... Thief: You can choose whether to believe it or not. But you might regret it later. Guinivere: Lord Roy, what she just said... Roy: We'll try to go outside to put them at a disadvantage. If they're really going for us, they should follow us out there. Thief: If you're going outside, you'll want to go up to the north annex! That's connected to the rear gate -- run through the center garden to get there.
Wagner: L...Lord Roy! Where are you going? I can transmit a message inside for you... Roy: I have urgent business. Please excuse me. Wagner: B...But...even for the son of Pherae House, I can't admit you. The Master would scold me later! Please, just for tonight... Roy: Nothing against you, but I need to speak directly to Orun. I'd like to meet him, so please go to his room and tell him. Wagner: But, the Master is sick and can't meet you... Roy: Regardless, excuse me. Wagner: What are you going to do? [?] Roy: ... Wagner: Then you'll die here! Everyone, kill all of these people! Roy: I thought so! Saul: Lord Roy! It seems that even if we retreat we'll be attacked from behind. Roy: Then we'll start by capturing this building. Everyone, follow me!
(After the first turn): Sue: It's noisy...what's going on out there? A battle?
(After a few turns): Cass: Oh, they're doing it! Now will I be able to take what I want?
(Roy talks to Cass) Roy: You... Cass: Uh-oh! Roy: Wait! Cass: Hey, what are you doing? Let go of my arm! That hurts! Roy: Er, sorry...but what are you doing here? Cass: Er, well, that is...a bunch of stuff...hahaha... Roy: "A bunch of stuff"? In the middle of a battle? Cass: Even if it is a battlefield, there's still a bunch of stuff... Roy: Perhaps you have a different goal in mind? Cass: giku [sound effect of uneasiness] Roy: Maybe that's why you told us how we could escape? Cass: Er...why's that? Roy: Exactly what... Cass: Now, now, don't worry about the details. Anyway, bye! Roy: W..Wait!
(Roy talks to Sue) Sue: Who are you? Roy: Huh? Why is there a girl here? Sue: ? You don't live here? Roy: You are? Oh, I'm Roy. Sue: I'm Sue. That sound from outside -- was that you? Roy: Sound? Sue: The sound of fighting. Roy: Yes, the reason we're here right now is that we're fighting with the palace guards. Sue: I see...then I'm your ally. Roy: ? Sue: The people who live here are my enemies as well. Roy: Hmm? Why is that? Sue: I will lend my bow to your cause [she should have said "If you give me a bow from one of your other guys I can shoot it with my LEVEL 1 ABILITY ;-)"]. I think I can be of help to you.
(When you first attack Wagner) Wagner: Damn...with such useless underlings I don't have a choice. I'll give you a taste of my magic.
(When you kill Wagner) Wagner: M...My perfect plan...
(After you capture the throne) Roy: I see...you're the granddaughter of the chieftan of one of the Saka Plains tribes. Sue: My grandfather is the strongest of all of them. Everyone calls him the "Grey Wolf". Roy: The Grey Wolf....I've actually heard of him. But why are you in Lycia? The Saka Plains are far to the east. Sue: Because Bern attacked Saka. Our Kutora Tribe decided to fight against Bern. But my grandfather sent all the women and children to Lycia. But... Roy: But? Sue: But we were betrayed. During our journey, we were ambushed by the Jute Tribe acting on Bern's orders. Roy: ... Sue: Everyone became separated. I somehow found a way out and came to this country. The ruler of this region, Lord Orun of Thria, was very kind to me and he sheltered me here. But, the court official Wagner assassinated Orun and captured the palace. At the same time.... Roy: You were captured as well. Sue: Are you fighting against Bern? Roy: Yes, because we were also attacked by Bern. Sue: Then, let me fight with you. I can help Grandfather by fighting against Bern. Also, I can repay Orun's kindness by fighting his enemies. Roy: We're headed for Ostia. It's all right with you if that's in the opposite direction of the Saka Plains? Sue: Fine with me. No matter where I go, it's the same. Mother Earth will not cease to exist, nor will Father Sky disappear.
Marinus: Lord Roy, trouble! The messengers just got back from Ostia. It seems that Ostia has broken out in civil war. Roy: What! Marinus: Apparently a faction that surrendered to Bern has begun a rebellion. Roy: Then, Lilina...? Marinus: She's a prisoner of war. Right now the rebel army is occupying Ostia Castle. Looks like we will have to fight a harsh battle to retake both the castle and rescue Lilina. Roy: That doesn't matter. Let's hurry to Ostia! Roy: Lilina, please be safe! ---------
So a horsed bowman seems pretty neat, but she's only at level 1. What do you guys think of Sue?

Roy's army headed quickly towards Ostia after hearing about the rebellion there. On the way, Roy learned from the collected information that the uprising was led by General Reigans and his subordinate Debias, both former supporters of Lord Hector. They incited the uprising to facilitate Bern's capture of the area. Lilina, who was watching over Ostia, was captured by Reigans, who trapped her in the castle thinking that she would be of some use. Roy heard about this, and though he had only his own army he was determined to save Lilina -- thus he came to the streets of Ostia. And Ostia, renowned as the greatest city of Lycia, turned into a battleground. This was surely a cruel and devistating path...
Chapter 7 - The Ostia Rebellion
Reigans: Debias, what's going on in the town? Debias: Yes, sir. Right now everything is quiet. But, the Ilian mercenaries that worked for Lord Hector have firm spirits and have opposed us. Reigans: Those idiots. Just pay them a lot of money and they'll probably be quiet. Debias: The Ilian mercenaries are famous for never switching sides... Reigans: So we're supposed to just leave it at that? General Nashen, one of the three Dragon Generals of Bern, is coming soon! Do you think he's going to just wave it off if we haven't subjugated Ostia yet? Debias: Yo...you're right. Reigans: Lilina is our trump card. If we use her as a shield, the opposition should stop. But we'll only use that as a last resort! That group of Ilian mercenary knights and their allies should not be the enemy of the elite Ostia troops! Debias! Your army and the reinforcement Dragon Knights of Bern will supress this region. I'm going to wait in the castle -- I leave the town to you! Debias: Yes, sir!
Roy: Marinus! About how many soldiers are in the rebellion force? Marinus: There are quite a few. They're forgotten their duty towards Ostia, and have joined up with these people that lack honor -- it's a deplorable state of affairs. Roy: I see... Marinus: However, there is good news. There is a report that the Ilian mercenary knights are attacking the rebellion force. Guinivere: The Ilian mercenary knights? Marinus: Yes. It seems that they had a contract to work with the Ostian army opposing Bern. Roy: That's unexpected fortune for us. However, it may be that if the knights learned of Lord Hector's death, the contract would end. Is it possible for us to re-hire them, I wonder? Marinus: Lord Roy, the knights already know about the Lord of Ostia's death. But they said they would continue to fight. Guinivere: Why are mercenaries going that far? Marinus: The Ilian land is not very fertile, so their only real export product is the mercenaries. So they consider loyalty to be above all else, and once they've signed a contract they will not betray it. Well, that's what you hear in rumors -- but it's true. Roy: Well, it is very reassuring to have those allies. Marinus: Yes, our army is not quite one to make the heavens tremble. But, the knights have told us that very soon the Dragon Knight division and the Bern Generals plan to come here. If they should decide to aid the rebellion, then victory for us would be hopeless. Guinivere: Lord Roy, what are you going to do? Roy: ...Perhaps the Etrurian Kingdom would aid us. Guinivere: Etruria!? Would they really? Roy: When I was studying here in Ostia, the "Magician General" Cecilia from the Etrurian Kingdom was here as a military officer. I learned about military strategy from her. I think she would help us. Marinus: Lord Roy, that's a bad idea!! If we ask Etruria to intervene in internal Lycian matters, they may want to meddle further afterwards... Roy: Yes, I know that. But, Lycia's very existence is in danger. Rather than stepping forward in fear and hesitation, and then losing everything, we should take this chance and the possibility to protect what's important to us. Marinus: ...Lord Roy Roy: We don't have time to just sit around here. I'm going to write a letter to Cecilia. Please, Marinus, make sure this gets to Etruria as quickly as possible. Marinus: Yes, sir! <Leave it to me!> [there's some idiom here I don't know, but he's basically saying "ok, I'll do it] Roy: Thank you. Roy: All right, everyone! Let's take back Ostia!
(After the first turn) Zealot: It seems that the remnants of the Alliance army have begun to oppose to rebel force. All right! It's time for the Ilian mercenary knights to enter the fray. Together we'll drive away the rebels. Treck: Yes, sir! Zealot: Hmm? I don't see Noah. Where did he go? Treck: <sigh>..he went towards the arena. He was also leading that naive young swordswoman... Zealot: Oh...that's rare for Noah. Well, that's OK. We'll start moving and then he can join in later. Treck: All right. Zealot: Then, let's go!
(After the third turn) [The first part of this dialogue was oddly difficult for me -- but it's basically just advice on how to use the arena so it's not really important. Starting from "what will you do now" I had no problem.] Noah: I guess the fighting has started. Let's go, Fil. Fil: Thanks for all you've taught me, Sir Noah. Noah: But I was surprised at first. You suddenly entered and said to me "I want to fight!" Fil: S...Sorry. This is my first time in an arena, though... Noah: If you are fighting a weak enemy, crush them without mercy. If you're fighting in the arena, never underestimate your opponents. Fil: And if you're in danger, it's good to quit, right? Noah: That's right. Any money you wager is not worth your life. If you lose, then just wait a while and get stronger. Fil: Right. Noah: So what will you do now? Train here again? Fil: No, I'm going to go to the western islands, I think. Noah: Those three islands to the east? Why are you going there again? Fil: Mines have opened there, and there are a lot of people. It sounds like the perfect place for me to go improve my skills. Also... Noah: Also? Fil: That's the place where my late mother and my father first met. My mother, like me, travelled around gaining combat skill. Noah: Hmm! That's surprising. Fil: ? Noah: You're always saying "I want to be stronger!", so I thought all you really cared about was swordplay. But it seems that you have a bit of a romantic streak as well. Fil: Huh? Geez! Don't make fun of me!! Noah: Hahaha...
(Roy talks to Treck) Roy: You're one of the Ilian mercenaries, right? Treck: Hmm? Yeah, so what? Roy: My name is Roy. I lead the Lycian Alliance army... Treck: Ah, then I'll be under your leadership from now on. Roy: What? Is that OK? Treck: Hmm? Roy: You don't have to check with your commander first? Treck: Ah, don't worry about that. He said that we were to join with the Lycian Alliance. Roy: But did he really mean... Treck: "But did he really mean" what? We're in the middle of a battle. If you take the time to check every little thing with your commander, you'll be dead. I'm not going against his orders, though. Roy: All right.

(Roy talks to Noah) Roy: You're one of the Ilian mercenaries, right? Noah: Yeah, so what? Roy: My name is Roy. I lead the Lycian Alliance army... Noah: Oh! I heard about you. From now on is it all right if I join with you? Roy: Hmm? Is that all right? Noah: What? Roy: Don't you have to ask your commander if it's OK? Noah: He told us to join with the Lycian Alliance army. That's enough for me. Roy: But did he mean this? Noah: This is a battlefield. If you take the time to check everything with your commander, then you won't be able to act quickly in times of trouble. It's not good to disobey orders, but outside of that you can play it by ear. Roy: I see...thanks for telling me.
(Noah talks to Zealot) Noah: General Zealot! Zealot: Ah, it's Noah. You went to the Arena, right? Noah: Yes, sorry I'm late. Zealot: Doesn't matter. We've just started fighting. I haven't talked to the Lycian Alliance army yet. Noah: Don't worry, I just talked to the Alliance army's leader. Zealot: Really! Then it's time for us to submit to his leadership. Noah, I leave the negotiations with the Lycian Alliance to you. Noah: Yes, sir!
(Roy talks to Zealot) Roy: You're General Zealot, the leader of the Ilian mercenary knights, right? Zealot: Who are you? Roy: My name is Roy. I lead this army. Zealot: You? I'm surprised...you're still just a boy. Roy: I'm here because of the Lord of Ostia's final words. Zealot: The Lord of Ostia....it's very sad to lose him. He was a warrior of a caliber you don't often see. Roy: Yes. Because of the departed Lord Hector, we must retake Ostia! It was a promise. To protect Lilina... Zealot: I see...well, we'll do what we can for you. Roy: I thank you for your help. Zealot: Save your thanks for if things go well. Right now focus on the enemies before you! Roy: Right.
(Treck talks to Zealot) Treck: General Zealot. Zealot: Treck, what is it? Treck: I recently met with the Lycian Alliance leader. Zealot: Ah, why didn't you tell me earlier? Treck: It's not that, I just now met with him. Zealot: That's fine. Then it's time for us to submit to his leadership. Treck, I leave the negotiations with the Lycian Alliance to you.
(Lance supports Alan) Alan: Lance, how goes it! Lance: Hey, Alan. Not great, but not bad either. Alan: Just like you, never a straight answer. When we fought a while back I was a bit slow, but this time I won't lose! I'll show you how I fight now. Lance: Yeah, make sure you show me. But I'm not planning on losing to you. Alan: Heh. After the war is over, I'm looking forward to this. Now, let's go!
(After the ninth turn) Debias: Soon the reinforcements will come from the south. Hehehe...I want to see their surprised faces when they get attacked.
Houses 1 - "Hey you, look at this great thing I made. It can fire arrows much further than a normal bow. This will be very useful, right? Right? Right? Yeah, that's what I thought. I wanted to give this to someone who would know how to use it." (Long Bow) 2 - "This? This is the Torch Staff, which will create light. If you don't have this, you won't be able to move well when night comes. Nighttime is bad when you're in a battle, right? You can't see anything. Even if the enemy is right in front of you you can't attack him." (Torch Staff) 3 - "A while back, some unknown person lay dying in the street. When I helped him out, he gave me this sword. A strange person. But, he was a good person too. Hmm? Here's the sword. You can have it. Just make sure you take good care of it." (Kill Sword) 4 - "This town used to belong to Lycia. But now, just look at it...This gem, I bet if you sold it at a shop it would fetch a high price. Please, restore Ostia and our previous way of life!" (Red Jewel) 5 - "Medicine! Medicine! Can cure any ills! No matter what wounds you have, this will restore you completely! The contents are....a secret. If I told you then I'd get in trouble. Hmm? You don't want it? Aww....I'll give you one for free if you buy some next time, OK?" (Special Effect Medicine) 6 - "Are you going to help Lady Lilina? Here's something that can cure a person's injuries long-distance. If Lilina's hurt, please help her..." (Riburo staff -- I have no idea what "riburoo" is supposed to be) 7 - "Be careful. General Reigans is allied with Bern now. He killed everyone that wouldn't follow him, but I escaped and here I am. Please take this. It's proof of those that are called 'heroes'. Give this to the right person, and then keep fighting to protect the Ostian homeland. That's my dream...." (Hero's Proof) 8 - "Social Knights, Paladins, and others who ride on horses...this long spear 'Knight Killer' is effective against them. There are a bunch of horsemen in the rebel army. Use this against them. Useful, right?" (Knight Killer)
(When you first fight Debias) Debias: Y...You destroyed all of those Bern dragon knights?? You won't pass here!
(When you kill Debias) Debias: Reigans, be careful...these people are strong...
(When you capture the throne) Roy: All right! The town is fine. Now let's go inside the castle and save Lilina! Marinus: Lord Roy! Right now some strong people are breaking down the gate.[?] I understand your impatience but please wait a while. Roy: ...Lilina Marinus: Aside from Lilina, what do you think of Lord Hector's last words? Roy: About the dragons, you mean? Not legend, but reality...Lord Hector is someone who is as esteemed in Lycia as my father. But that army was destroyed in such a short time... Marinus: The Bern army is the strongest on Elb, with those dragon knights they have. Roy: Of course, the Dragon Knights are strong, but the power of a real dragon....I can't even imagine it. What kind of weapon would be effective against them? Marinus: Maybe those "Divine Armaments"? Roy: Divine Armaments? I've heard legends about those... Marinus: Yes, it's what the "Eight Divine Generals" used in their fights against the dragons. They are very special weapons. Roy: If we had those weapons, we could fight the dragons. But are any of them in Ostia? Marinus: Lady Lilina might know. She seemed interested in that kind of thing. Hmm? Lord Roy, there's the signal. It's time to enter the castle! Roy: All right! Storm the castle! We have to rescue Lilina no matter what!

Ostia had pride in its army, which was made up of Armor Knights and Social Knights, and headed by Lord Hector who was known as a great warrior. The Ostia Castle which they protected had never been captured by enemies. For hundreds of years it was called "impregnible". But that history suddenly ended. Strangely enough, this happened at Roy's hands, who had been unable to protect the castle before.
Chapter 8 - Reunion
Reigans: W...what! The castle has been breached by the enemies? What the hell did you do, Debias? Either the Ilian knights were much stronger than I expected, or they had a lot of help...this castle has always been known as "impregnible". This sure hurts the castle's history! What crap -- if this continues we'll be crushed by Bern. But, there's no turning back now. Anyway, what a loud noise...hey, listen! Soldier: Yes, sir. Reigans: Don't let those enemies in the castle do whatever they want. Stop them at any cost! Station troops everywhere, especially in front of this throne. Soldier: Yes, sir! Reigans: Also, try to get the fighting near Lilina and secretly finish her off. Soldier: But I thought you were going to make use of Lilina. Reigans: I intended to use her to restrain the enemies, but a lot of my followers still care about Lilina. If I publicly used her as a shield, there's a danger that many of them would turn on me. Soldier: Then all the blame will be on you! Reigans: That's why I'm telling you to do it secretly! If she gets hit by a stray arrow or something everyone will start blaming each other! So go do it! Soldier: Y..Yes sir!
Astohl: You're General Roy of the Lycian Alliance, right? Roy: Who are you? An enemy? Astohl: I'm your ally, so calm down. My name is Astohl. I worked for the Lord of Ostia. Marinus: Sorry, but what kind of work did you do? I don't remember seeing you among those working for him...[or maybe "you don't look like someone who would have worked for him"] Astohl: What a rude person. Well, I'll tell you what you want to know. I gathered information on the enemy and scouted the condition of cities. Sort of "hidden work", you might call it. Marinus: Ah-hah, I see. Astohl: From the first time I saw him I could tell he was a great man. Once I learned that, I had no choice but to work for him. In the past few months I have been travelling around the regions on the Lord of Ostia's orders and gathering information. When I came near Araphen Castle I learned of his death and quickly returned here. Those bastards Reigans and Debias have started a rebellion, it seems. I was too late to save Lord Hector, and so I want to at least rescue Lady Lilina. Roy: We feel the same way. If you join with us we should be able to weather the storm. Astohl, do you know where Lilina is? Astohl: Of course, it's my job to find out stuff like that. Lady Lilina is trapped in a small room in the center of the castle. And the traitor Reigans is sitting arrogantly on the center throne. Roy: All right, let's hurry. Let's defeat the rebellion and save Lilina before Bern's General Nashen gets here.
(After turn 1): Lilina: That noise...fighting inside the castle? What's going on out there?
(Roy supports Alan) Roy: Hey... Alan: Lord Roy, what do you need? Roy: ... Alan: Lord Roy! Roy: Oh, Alan. Sorry, I was lost in thought. Alan: You're doing that a lot lately. Roy: Yeah... Alan: What's got you so worried? Roy: Just the movement of the troops... Alan: The movement of the troops? Roy: Yeah...the enemies are getting stronger, so I'm thinking about how to keep the fight going well. There has to be some way to breach the enemy lines. Alan: Oh, that kind of stuff...Lord Roy, you have nothing to worry about. If you give me the order, I'll show you how to breach the lines! Roy: Thanks. But I don't want to make dangerous gambits with everyone's lives. Let's try to think of a better solution.
(After turn 6) Oujay: Huh? Barth, it's a dead end! Barth: No problem. There's a crack in the middle of this wall. If we just hit it enough times with our swords and spears it will break. Wendy: Where do you suppose Lady Lilina is? Barth: That's really our goal. This is the castle that we all swore to protect. But now there's so much commotion. Wendy: Is it combat? Barth: That's possible. If the attack by the Ilian mercenary knights went well, that could be the remnants of the Lycian Alliance army... Wendy: The Lycian Alliance army? Then, my brother... Barth: I don't know if he survived. It's not good to hope for things like that. Wendy: Y...you're right. Oujay: Barth, that's cruel! He's Wendy's only brother. Barth: When confronted with reality you can only avert your eyes. Oujay: But... Wendy: That's enough, Oujay. Barth is right. Barth: Whatever happens, we can't let the knights of Ostia be dispersed. Right, Wendy? Wendy: Yes.
(After turn 10) Cass: Hehehe...just as I predicted, they're at it again. They're skilled people, but also stupid. What's so interesting about just fighting? Well, whatever. I'm going to grab whatever I can find!
(Roy talks to Cass) [This is the hardest conversation yet, there are numerous places I'm not sure about, mostly after Cass' story about her town] Roy: Ah! Cass: S...Strange meeting you here! Haha ha haha... Roy: You should stop coming to battles just to steal things. It's not good for you. Cass: Hey, don't worry. I don't just aim for "Exalted Lords". <I'll go after anyone.> Roy: That's not really a problem... Cass: Mmm-hmm...listen here. What about you? You own territory, and you selfishly take people's works for your own purposes. Roy: But in return we protect the people's lives! Cass: You don't protect anything! You just start wars, like this. Roy: This war was started by Bern. We're fighting to protect everyone from them... Cass: But can anything be justified in the name of protection? Burning people's villages, destroying their fields... Roy: Burning towns...what...! Wait, are you saying... Cass: My village was burned down by the lord of the region. He said 'Bern is attacking us, and this is strategically vital.' Roy: T...that... Cass: Everyone was scattered, their fields and houses lost...they wanted to start stealing in order to live. And people like you live comfortably off of what you stole from them! How do you justify that? Roy: Why are you saying this to me... Cass: Aah, a bit gloomy for a story, I suppose. I hate that kind of tale. It's like I'm saying "Poor me!", trying to boast. I suppose it turns out like that when you talk about your own experiences. Roy: I...I... Cass: Well, if the person's poor it's tough to do my job! In that case I better cut my losses and leave. Bye-bye!
(Wendy talks to Bors) Wendy: Brother! You're safe!! Bors: Oh, Wendy. You're safe as well! !? W...why are you wearing that? Have you joined the Ostian [heavy knights]? Wendy: Yes. I took the oath yesterday. Bors: What? I told you to leave the fighting to us and think only about your own happiness, didn't I! Wendy: Yes, and I thought about many things. But in the end, I chose this road. Bors: But... Wendy: I'm not just going to sit around and wait for you all to return. My happiness will come from becoming a strong knight that won't lose to my brother. Bors: ... Wendy: Brother? Bors: Geez, you've never listened to what I say. Wendy: Brother... Bors: It's good to follow the path you believe in. If our parents were still alive they would tell you that. But isn't this a tough road to follow? Wendy: Yes, but I'm ready! I won't fail!!
(Roy talks to Lilina) Roy: Lilina!! Lilina: Roy? Is that really you? Roy: Of course, Lilina! Lilina: Roy, you're really here. I'm happy... Roy: Lilina, you're all right. Everything's going to be fine. Anyway, I brought this magic book for you. Take it and protect yourself. Lilina: Thanks.
(Bors talks to Lilina) Bors: L...Lady Lilina! You're safe! Lilina: Bors, sorry for worrying you. Bors: Ridiculous. I'm just glad you're alive -- that's enough for me. Lilina: Thank you Bors, for worrying about me. Please continue to protect Roy like you promised. I'm glad I entrusted Roy to you. Bors: Lady Lilina!
(Barth talks to Lilina) Lilina: Barth. Barth: Lady Lilina! You're safe! Lilina: Barth, it's just as you said. Reigans and the others were trying to start a rebellion. Barth: ... Lilina: I'm sorry -- if I had believed you, this wouldn't have happened... Barth: No -- it's their fault for trampling on your kind personality and destroying your belief in them. You didn't make a mistake, we all like that kindness in you. Lilina: Barth...

(When you fight Reigans with Bors) Reigans: Oh, Bors...you're still alive, I see. Bors: Of course. And while we were gone, I can't believe you did this to Ostia! Reigans: If you don't like it, then try to take it back from me. Fight me!
(When you fight Reigans with Lilina) Reigans: Lady Lilina...damn, they failed. Lilina: Reigans, why? Reigans: The times are changing. I'm just following them. If you're not able to do that, you just end up like that fool Lord Hector. Lilina: Shut up! I won't let you slander my father!
(When you fight Reigans with Wendy) Wendy: Sir Reigans! Prepare yourself! Reigans: You bitch, you're Bors' sister...you're brave, but I don't think you can beat me.
(When you fight Reigans with Barth) Barth: You bastard, Reigans! Do you have any shame for betraying the lord of this castle? Reigans: It's better than remaining with the fool and being destroyed with him. Barth: What! Reigans, this is as far as you go!
(When you fight Reigans with anyone else) Reigans: Ah, it's the annoying Alliance who just won't die. Come on, then, I'll cut you to pieces!
(When you kill Reigans) Reigans: Why? Why did you fight me here, when you'll just be trampled under Bern's feet...
(After you capture the throne) [Note: According to pegasusknight.com, if Lilina is not alive you just see the scene that will come at the end of chapter 8 gaiden.]
Roy: Lilina, finally we've retaken the castle. Lilina: It's all thanks to you and your army. I'm glad that father didn't have to trouble himself doing this. Roy: ! Lilina: Hey Roy, is father still at Araphen Castle? I heard that the fight there was bad, but is it dragging on this long? Roy: Lilina, hasn't anyone told you? Lilina: Hmm? What? Roy: Please listen calmly[ki wo ochitsukete]. Lord Hector...passed away. Lilina: What? Roy: I'm sorry. By the time we had gotten near Araphen, it was already under Bern's control. Lilina: ...it's not your fault, Roy. You don't have to apologize. Roy: At that point, Lord Hector had already been gravely wounded. If we had just arrived there a bit sooner...we probably could have saved him...I was pathetically weak. Lilina: Don't say that. I...I've been prepared for this. Pr...Prepared...As the daughter of a warrior, I was taught not to be distraught when this time came. Roy: Lilina. Lilina: But, don't try to hide this. Tell everyone soon, and don't worry. Everyone worries about me too much. I'm strong...but... Roy: Lilina, you don't have to pretend for me. Lilina: Roy...I....I Roy: I'm here for you.

Roy vowed to always protect Lilina, who was reeling from the death of her father. But, from behind them Bern's dragon knights were drawing ever nearer. In their current condition, they were no match for the army. So Roy and his army, acting on information from Lilina, went to a cave on the outskirts of Ostia to look for the "Divine Generals' Weapons". In this cave, which was at the foot of a volcano, Roy's army would have to face a great trial.
Chapter 8 Side Story - The Blazing Sword [rekka no ken]
Bandit: B...Boss, bad news! An army has invaded the cave. Hening: What! How many are there? Bandit: I don't know, but hopefully not many... Hening: Strange...the Lycian lords don't usually concern themselves with us. Bandit: What are we going to do, Boss? Hening: This will be their first time in this cave, so they won't know anything about it. Try to get them to step on the floor where the magma will erupt.
Lilina: Roy, here we are! According to the tales passed down in the Ostia house, one of the "Divine Generals' Weapons" should be stored here. Roy: Lilina, are you all right? Are you a bit calmer now? Lilina: Yeah, I'm fine...well, I can't really say that. But I'm not as sad right now. I can persevere for my father. Roy: I see...that's the Lilina I know. [Roy disappears] Lilina: I can't show my sadness in front of Roy. [Roy reappears] Roy: What? Did you just say something? Lilina: No, nothing. Anyway, I have more to tell you about the Divine Generals' Weapons. The one here is a sword that was used by the hero Rolan. Roy: You mean Ostia's first king, Rolan? Lilina: Yes, our ancestor. The swords name is the Blazing Sword Durandal. Roy: Durandal....a strange sound. That hero Rolan fought dragons with that sword during the Human-Dragon War, I suppose. Lilina: That's what the tales say. After the war, Rolan returned to the old Ostia city and held the blazing sword up to the heavens. Then everything was restored -- the lands destroyed by the war, <nature which had been devastated...> Roy: An incredible sword. Lilina: It's particularly effective against dragons. Also, there's some mysterious power hidden within it. Roy: I see...anyway, should we be worried that bandits are here now? Lilina: Hmm, why? Roy: Well, Durandal might not be here anymore. Lilina: Don't worry. Someone without Rolan's stature wouldn't even be able to draw the sword. Roy: Then, I spoke too soon. Let's beat them and get Durandal!
(When you attack Hening) Hening: Damn it, what do you want coming this far?
(When you kill Hening) Hening: Ugh...after all this...
(After you capture the throne) Lilina: Roy, here it is! Roy: This is the Blazing Sword Durandal...it's a very large sword, we'll have to find someone who can use it. Lilina: But according to the records, the hero Rolan had a slight build. Whether or not a person can use it depends on their sword arm, don't you think? Roy: You think even I could use this if I got better at swordfighting? Lilina: Maybe... Roy: Oh, "maybe"? Lilina: Hee hee hee.... (Received Durandal)
Marinus: Roy, bad news! There are Bern dragon knights inside Ostia castle! Roy: What! They're here already?
Nashen: Hehehe...You're Roy, right? I thank you. By killing that fool Reigans, you've saved me a lot of time. Now, don't make a fuss and hand over Ostia castle to me. Roy: You must be kidding! Who would do that for you...!! Nashen: Oh...does that mean you want to fight? With that worn-out band of rabble? Interesting. We'll completely destroy you -- just like the Hector, the Lord of Ostia. Roy: Damn! Voice (Percival?): That's enough!
Soldier: L...Lord Nashen! There's a huge force from the Etruria Kingdom! Nashen: Idiot, I can see that! But why... Percival: I am Percival, the commander of the Etrurian knights. Commander Cecilia of the magician army made a request for us to protect Ostia. Therefore, from now on Ostia is under the protection of the Etruria Kingdom. Nashen: W...What... Cecilia: You don't like it? Then how about we fight. But can that little force you have really take us on? Nashen: Y...you bitch... Cecilia: I am Cecilia, commander of the magician army of Etruria. I don't think the happy people of Ostia like you being here. Nashen: Damn it...damn you! Soldier: Lord Nashen! Curb your temper, please! Cecilia is famous in Etruria, and with her magician army to back her up there's no way our drgaon knights can fi... Nashen: I know that! Retreat! You're Cecilia, right? You impertinent wench...I'll remember you!
Percival: You're Commander Roy of the Lycian Alliance, right? Roy: Y..yes! I'm leading the army in the place of the late Lord of Ostia. Percival: I see...Lycia is in trouble, then. Etruria Kingdom also mourns for the passing of your lord. Roy: Thank you for your concern. If it hadn't been for your assistance...we be surrendering to Bern right now, I suppose. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Percival: You shouldn't thank me. I just following the will of Etruria. If you want to thank someone, that would be Cecilia. <She overcame the King's opposition.> Roy: She defied the king? Percival: That's right, <she wasn't ordered to do this>. Anyway, two of the Commanders shouldn't be away from the kingdom for too long. I'll be leaving now. Cecilia: Leave everything to me. Roy: Hmm...Commander Percival...he's very strong. Cecilia: Hehehe..you're nervous, aren't you? Roy: Cecilia! It's been a while. Cecilia: You look a bit tired, but otherwise well. Roy: Yes. Thanks to the Etrurian army we got out of that fix. Cecilia: I'm glad we made it in time. Roy: Sorry, it looks like you went through a lot of trouble for me... Cecilia: Don't misunderstand. Your request for protection was very useful to Etruria. Roy: Useful? Cecilia: Yes. Don't you think Bern's recent actions have been unforgivable? We wanted to do something about it, but there's no way we were going to directly attack Bern. But in that case, Bern's power would grow stronger and the balance would be upset. Roy: So my request just happened to drop in, I guess. Cecilia: That's right. So don't feel like you're in our debt because we honored your request, Roy. Roy: I see. Cecilia: So no thanks are necessary. Roy: All right. Anyway, let's go inside. Everyone is waiting there. [Roy disappears] Cecilia: Heheh...it's been a while since I've seen him, and he's become a very strong boy, just as I thought.

After General Nashen was driven out of Ostia, as if to laugh at Roy's wariness of being pursued further, Bern suddenly stopped their war against Lycia. <They explained to Etruria that they wanted to preserve the peace[this is not correct]>. It was an eerie calm, and the armies on both sides were disturbed.
The only one of the Lycian lords still wielding any influence was Elwood, the duke of Pherae. Elwood gathered the successors of the Lycian lords together and held a conference on what to do in the future. The results were that Elwood became the leader, and the rest of the lands formed the "Lycian Alliance" once again. Their goal was to defend Lycia without considering the boundaries of the individual lands. The commander of the new Lycian Alliance was chosen to be Roy, who had managed to drive away the Bern army. Lycia was suddenly full of energy, and it started on the path to reconstruction.
At that time, the Etrurian Kingdom sent a formal request for the Lycian Alliance to march. The request said "You will go to the three western islands and expel the bandits." There was much discontent from the people of Lycia -- why did the army suddenly have to go out to the western islands? Lycia, which was still depending on Etruria's protection, had no way to refuse the request. Roy, who owed a debt to Etruria, led the army through the Etrurian Kingdom and proceeded to the western islands.
The "western islands" was a general term for the westernmost frontier lands under Etruria's rule. It was a plentiful land, rich with underground resources which were being excavated. But, many bandits went after those resources. The people of the region, who lived close to such lawlessness, had suffered for a long time...
Chapter 9 - The Island Veiled in Mist
Bandit: Boss! They're here. Scott: You sure? Bandit: Yeah. They've definitely landed on the small island to the east. Scott: Then the information was accurate...they'll be in the middle of the mist, and unable to see anything around them. They will be totally confused. So let's sneak in and kill them all. Bandit: Yes!
Cecilia: Roy, I'm not going to fight this time...sorry. Roy: Cecilia, you don't need to apologize. It's not your responsibility. Cecilia: But I really don't understand Etruria's behavior towards Lycia. The Prime Minister is getting opposition even from the royal palace. Roy: Prime Minister? This expulsion of the bandits request wasn't decided on by the king? Cecilia: No. Rowats, the Prime Minister, and Alcard, the governor of the western islands, pushed this agenda through on their own. Roy: On their own? That kind of thing is allowed? Cecilia: Do you remember the tragedy that happened in our kingdom last year? Roy: Of course. You mean the sudden death of Crown Prince Mildeen, right? Cecilia: Yes. Roy: I never met him, but I heard he was an intelligent and shrewd person. Cecilia: Yes...I knew him. <I can't believe that he died.> It was too much for King Mordred to bear. In his old age he finally was blessed with a prince...that made it even sadder. After than, King Mordred was like a totally different person -- lethargic and uncaring. The Prime Minister took advantage of that. First, he isolated us, the three Commanders. Unless it was of absolute importance, we couldn't even see him. Roy: Then, during that time the army was sent to Ostia... Cecilia: That was a special circumstance. Commander Percival worked together with me and eventually we accomplished that. But now, this... Roy: Really, don't worry about it. Once we've completed our duty here we'll return to Ostia. Only, could you please watch Lycia in our absence? Cecilia: Yes, leave it to me. I will also take care of Princess Guinivere for you. Guinivere: If it's all right, I'd like to continue travelling with Lord Roy. Roy: We're going to have to march hard over this island, and I have no idea what will happen. Please, Princess, go with Commander Cecilia and hide somewhere in Etruria. Cecilia: Princess Guinivere, please trust me to do this -- I fear for your safety, and I made a promise to Roy as well. You don't have anything to fear from the renowned Etrurian Magician Army. Guinivere: I understand. Sorry for overstepping my bounds. Lord Roy, I will pray for your safety. Roy: And yours as well. Please be careful on the road back to Etruria.
(Roy supports Lilina)
Roy: Lilina, are you all right? Do you need anything? Lilina: Not right now. Roy: Are you wounded? Lilina: No, I'm fine. Roy: That's good. But, if you need anything... Lilina: Roy, it's OK. Roy: Hmm? Lilina: Thank you for worrying about me, Roy. But you don't need to be concerned -- I really am fine. Roy: Then I'm happy. But don't hesitate to ask me if there's anything you need. Lilina: All right, I'll do that.
(Roy supports Lilina - B) [pegasusknight.com is down again, I'll do this later]
(Roy supports Wolt - B) Roy: Wolt! What's with you lately... Wolt: Lord Roy, we should save this for later. Right now, we're in the middle of a battle -- the enemies will be aiming for you. They could be hiding anywhere. Prepare yourself and be wary of your surroundings. Roy: Wolt...lately you're just like Marinus or Marcus. Wolt: What an honor! I hope some day to be magnificent retainers just like those two. Roy: ...really? Wolt: Of course!! Roy: I see. Wolt: Lord Roy, is something wrong? Roy: No, nothing. I'd like to be alone, please. Wolt: Lord Roy...?
(Alan supports Wolt)
Alan: 498...499...500... Wolt: Sir Alan? Alan: Hmm...oh, Wolt? Wolt: You're covered in sweat. Are you feeling all right? Alan: Don't worry, I'm fine. I've just been practicing with my sword. I'm not quite strong enough yet -- I need to train more. Wolt: But..we're in the middle of a battle right now. How often do you do this? If you tire yourself out now, then when the time comes... Alan: Enemies are coming. Let's go, Wolt. Don't fall behind! Wolt: Y..Yes sir!
(After turn 2) Fil: Sir Scott! Scott: Oh, Fil. Sorry for calling you. Fil: It's very noisy. Is something going on? Scott: Actually, for some reason the island is being attacked. The people are in danger. Fil: W...what! Scott: I sent some of my underlings to help them, but the enemies started attacking them. They may have been taken hostage. Fil: How could they... Scott: It would be good if I went, but I can't leave here. So, Fil, sorry to ask... Fil: I understand. I'll go and drive them away. Scott: Sorry. I'll be indebted to you. Fil: Leave it to me! I won't let them attack the people of this island! Scott: I sent one more person as well, so you should meet up with him. Fil: Someone else? Scott: Yeah. Sin [why isn't this "shin"?], one of the nomads. He's a gentle man, but he's strong.
Fil: ...You're Sin....right? Sin: Ah, I heard about you. Let's go. Fil: ... Sin: ... Fil: ...Um... Sin: What? Fil: Er...are you also joining the fight to protect the people of the island? Sin: No, that doesn't really interest me. Fil: Then why? Sin: I was hired. That's it. Fil: ... Sin: ... Fil: ...<I guess we don't have time for this[?]>. Um....Sin, you're from Saka. Right? Sin: Right. Fil: Why are you this far west? Sin: No mysterious reason. But you also seem like one of the Saka people, yet you're here... Fil: I'm travelling everywhere to increase my skill. Ah, you don't really want to hear about me. Ahaha... Sin: ... Fil: Sheesh... Sin: ...I'm searching for a woman. Fil: A woman? Sin: When the Bern Kingdom attacked the Saka Plains, my tribe fought against them and was defeated. Fil: ... Sin: My Chief ordered me to protect his granddaughter, who had already ran ahead. For that reason I escaped the battle. Fil: I see...I hope you find her soon. Sin: Yeah.
Bandit: Was it a good idea to send that girl to fight... Scott: It's fine. If she's defeated we can take her sword. Bandit: Sword? That strange sword she had? Scott: That's one of the famous "yamatogatana" swords. If we had that, we could sell it for a huge price. [Note: I have no clue how to represent the name of this sword, and I'm not quite sure how to read the kanji. The first kanji is an obsolete character that means either "Yamato" (i.e. old Japan), or an type of ancient cloth (which might refer to a wrapping around the sword, but I have a feeling this usage is too obscure to appear in a game like this). A few of the possible readings of the name are "watou", "yamatogatana", and "shizutou". My guess is "yamatogatana" just because that parallels other words like "yamato nadeshiko" and "yamato damashii", but who knows. In any case, the description of the sword says it's from the East, and the kanji is particularly used in ancient Chinese writings to refer to Japan, so perhaps this is supposed to conjure an image of a sword from an exotic land?] Bandit: I see. So that's why you've been so nice to her. Scott: I haven't gotten a chance yet, but I think I have one now. You go follow that girl, and if you see an opening, get her! Bandit: All right!

(Noah talks to Fil) Noah: Fil! You're Fil, right? Fil: Sir Noah? What are you doing here? Noah: Oh, I joined this army a little while ago. Uwa! W...What are you doing, suddenly slashing at me! Fil: Sir Noah! I don't know you at all! Noah: Huh? Fil: You said you were a mercenary knight, but now you've joined up with pirates... Noah: What? Fil: There's nowhere for you to hide! Attacking the people of this island with bandits...how pathetic. And you claim to be a knight!! Noah: Hold on a minute...you're misunderstanding... Fil: Misunderstanding! So that's what you call it now? Noah: It's not us who are attacking the people. We're trying to beat the leader of the pirates, Scott... Fil: Huh? Sir Scott is the leader of the pirates? Noah: If you think I'm lying, go ahead and ask that pirate there. He's staring at you right now. Fil: Pirate? Pirate: Damn, <she saw me.> No choice, I'll have to tell the boss. Fil: Ah, wait! Noah: ...You didn't suspect a thing? Fil: Er...n...no. He was very kind to me... Noah: But from what I hear, he's a very scary person. Fil: But my late mother [Lin!] always told me "Don't judge people from outside appearances". [This screen was in one of the FE7 preview magazine articles] Noah: Well, I guess that's true... Fil: Besides that, I can't believe I aided the pirates...what am I going to do now... Noah: Why don't you fight alongside us? Fil: What? W...would that be all right? Noah: We're not a very large army, but I'll ask our leader. Fil: All right. Thank you very much!
(Sue talks to Sin) Sin: Lady Sue! Sue: Sin...what are you doing here? Sin: I was searching for you. Sue: Me? Sin: Yes, on the Chief's orders. Sue: ...After I ran away, what happened to the tribe? Sin: I'm sorry, but the Bern army... Sue: Defeated them? Sin: ... Sue: How is grandfather? Sin: He's still fighting against Bern. Sue: I see... Sin: I left the Chief's side because he ordered me to protect you. Sue: Then, will you fight alongside us? Sin: Here? Sue: This army's fight against Bern will help our tribe. And I owe them for saving my life. Sin: All right. If that's what you think, then I will help you. Sue: Thank you...
Houses 1 - "Geez, there's so much mist here...in these conditions you have no idea if anyone is around. The Torch Staff is useful even for sharp-eyed thieves."
2 - "Registrans is doing quite well. In the north, and in the east -- they're always in the thick of battle. Which way will you go?"
3 - "Among the pirates there is a very skilled person. Even though you can't see at all in the mist....A "nomad", I think...the horse riding people. But, there's also a girl with him..."
4 - "The nearby village, and the village next to it...everyone there is leaving the islands. It's very sad. If you want to visit, you had better go quickly. I don't think you'll have time to go to them both. You'll need to decide which one you want to go to."
Towns 1 - (The one in the southwest) "This area basically belongs to the pirates. They just steal from us all the time. Resistance? That's useless. They can do whatever they want because they have lots of supporters. We can't fight against them like the Registrans."
2 - (North town on the left) "...The only people here are the women and children. All the workers have gone north to the mines. Without even being allowed to sleep, they work there until they die...My brother, who escaped, was wasted thin just like an old man. That day, he drew his last breath. Now that I've told you this, can you do...sorry, I've said too much. Please forget all of this. We're leaving this island now."
3 - (North town on the right) "You saved us! Are you with the Registrans? No? Then, you're just normal good people? Just as you've seen, this island right now is swarming with pirates and bandits. But...what are we going to do? The rumors say that in the west there's a severe battle going on. You can go ahead and tell them that we're leaving the island..."
(When you fight Scott) Scott: So you've made it through the mist...but you're all worn out now. I'll stop you in your tracks!
(When you kill Scott) Scott: You bastards...who are you? You're not just a normal army...
(When you capture the castle) Roy: Marinus, the enemies ambushed us. Marinus: It's as if they knew we were coming. Roy: I get the feeling that there's something behind all this. Marinus: Yes. It doesn't seem like this is just a simple bandit supression. After Bern's invasion, there's a strange feeling everywhere. Roy: Yeah...I wonder what's happening on this continent? Bern's rampaging, the revival of the Dragons, the destruction of the Lycian Alliance...absolutely unbelievable events. And we have no choice but to clear them away one by one as we see them. Very frustrating.
(Path A) Marinus: So what will we do next? Roy: Maybe we'll go north along the coast? Marinus: North...to the place with all the mines? Roy: Yeah. They say there are many people doing forced labor. Marinus: So first we will rescue those people. Roy: If we do that we may understand the hidden motives of our enemies. Marinus: <If we're too patient and slow, nothing will get accomplished, I suppose.> Roy: Then, let's quickly head north!
(Path B) Marinus: So, where are we going to go next? Roy: Let's go west. Marinus: West? Roy: We'll try to meet with the Registrans. They seems to be fighting the bandits for the people. Marinus: I see...so if we meet them, we'll learn more about the island's condition and maybe find some shortcut. Roy: Right. If we just run around randomly all we do is waste time. Marinus: Sounds fine to me. Roy: Then, let's hurry. To the west!
