If you count the battle maps, theres also Hector and Eliwood. Merlinus is also there.

Karel is one awsome to Bring to the finla maps. Especilly if you havn't been taining Fil or Rutger. At that point of the game Speed is irrelevant as you have enemies which will frequently hit you not matter what.
If Karel has the Highest strength and i'm only to bring one swordmaster it would be him. The last maps all you need is some skill and the more strength the more carnage.
Sadly he gets benched for Rutger and/or Fil (he was shortlisted but hes behind by a few skill points, some hp and about 2 strength).

You'd bench a swordmaster?i think the dmg boost is worth it any day,i had all 3.Fir had durandel (55 dmg)
and karel and ruruger and dragon slayers(not sure)
and bring bartre and armads and your set for the whole lvl,with the exception of fa whom i was lvlin in that lvl,they were the only characters i really needed.

Fuuin no Tsurugi is the Sealed Sword. Hammerne is to repair it when it's usages get low.

Roy was there,but he didnt fight anything except idenn,havin too much fun with my swordmasters and fa ;D (and yes i had at least 12 more uses for sealed sword.)

io used all 3 on the final chapter but i didnt abuse the arena but i had the silver card so i got 3 speed wings and an energy ring for karel and he became just as good as my other 2 sword masters

CHEATER!!! Actually had this code that allows people to go above level 20. It was so much fun watching Karel kill everything and gain at least 1 point in every stat when he levels up. It's just crazy. He keeps going and going until everysingle stat maxed.

TF, you're talking about the Codebreaker Level Up codes, yes? Those codes rock, but slot 8 doesn't work (aka: where I always put Merlinus).
