In the theif shrine, it asks if you want to change your villagers into other classes. I turned mine into a magician, a knight, and a soldier. Should I have done this so early or are you supposed to level them up as villagers a bit first before changing classes?

It really doesn't matter in this game. Class changing is very strange. Do it as soon as possible. That's what I always do.

Well, I think you should raise them to their max if you're not going through the mercenary path since I think only Magic Knights get to start over as a villager. If not, then do it as soon as possible.

When a character changes class, they restart at level 1. Do it as soon as you can, I say.

That's true, but I think only the mercenary path can start over as a villager(I'm probably wrong.) So if you're not going down the mercenary path then try to raise to level 20 before class changing so you can get all those stats.
