Can anyone help me on the sideplots? I got the main idea of my manga (did i mention i can draw?), but i cant think of anything to make it longer than 50 pages.
So anyways, heres the story:
2 kids of age 13 (a boy and a girl) are separated when they graduate from school and go to highschool. The girl had to move away because her parants wanted her in a good high school. They promice to meet someday in a univercity. 5 years later, the boy shows that he is doing very badly at everything in school. He meets the girl, who moved back to his high school, but does not reconize her (the girl doesn't either) They become friends, and the girl helps him with his grades. He soon makes more friends. He still manages to fail grade 12, however, and he vows to skip a grade to return to his friends' grades.
Seems kinda like Love Hina...
So, can anyone help with sideplots or add to it?
(EDIT: Hello?)

Kinda cliche.....
What sort of tone do you want? Heavy or light? If you want heavy, you might go with some angst for the guy. If you want light.....try adding clubs and highschool mayhem. I have no idea how it all works in the US, so I'm kinda in the dark.
And I'm more of a fantasy/SF type of writer, anyway.
How about some tensions between friends? Heavy competition, the value of morales and friendships, those stuff? Weighing whether a friendship is true or not? Problems in families?

Like SW said, it is a bit cliche....but I guess you could add to it to make it more original. You know? Yeah.
Make the girl be able to spout starfish from her mouth.
Just kidding. I think you need some quirky things. But not too Excel Saga. ^^; Mmm....yeah, like that was helpful.

Synthetic's advice actually gave me a few lame ideas. ^^;
- The highschool is run by starfish in disguise. They actually plan to control the world, you see. And what better way to do it than SCHOOL? - The boy is highly allergic to onions. Which happens to be the source of tissue paper in school, unfortunately. - One of his friends is in love with a starfish and named her his wife. They even have a ring. And they try to make the boy marry a starfish, too. - The girl is a chemist able to make corrosive agents stronger enough to melt a door using cooking utensils. Unfortunately, her cooking can also melt a door. - The girl's parents' are space motel designers. - Kissing the girl will actually open a gateway to the dimension of sentient starfish. And thus she's off limits. Or starfish will jump out of her mouth. =P - The boy and the girl's desired university actually houses a secret commando unit designed to nuke all aliens. Including all people with contact with aliens.
Take your pick. If they're to your liking, that is. ^^

Ara. I was SERIOUS. Told you I mostly work with SF/Fantasy, so that's all I can think of.
Want to do pure romance/fluff/bishoujo story? I suggest you ask Ba...wait, she's gone. =P

The girl he likes is quite popular in school and she hangs around with guys often. She is very nice to everyone, and the way she treats him is no different than the way she treats other guys, making the guy thinks that he's insignificant in her life and wants to give up.
Something like that.
