By looking at this post, I've made you waste at least 5 seconds of your life. Ha ha. I have absolutely nothing to say about the quadratic formula except that it's long and quadratic equations can sometimes be solved by factoring.

.............._________ -b (+-) \/b(b) - 4ac``````=x .................2a
The opposite of b add or subtract the square root of b squared subtract four a c, all divided by two a.

If the value of b(b)-4ac is a perfect square, then there are exactly two roots to the equation.

If b(b)-4ac (which I think is called the discrimanent) is positive, there are two solutions.
If the discrimanent is zero, then there will be one solution because + and - will be the same when you're adding or subtracting zero.
If the discrimanent is negative, then there are no solutions because a number times itself can't be negative.
But how did this topic I made as a joke get turned into a discussion about the quadratic formula?

If the discriminant is positive but not a perfect square, then the solutions are rational.
For negative discriminants, the solutions would be imaginery (involving i's).
I think people made up songs in order to memorize the quadratic formula. Not that I've heard any...

Haha. I don't use the quadratic equation anymore, but it's been drilled into my head since middle school.

This thread just made me realise one thing: I have been out of school for too long. Most of this stuff just went whizzing by my head, because I haven't touched most of it for eight years.
I'd better crack open some books, or I'm screwed come September.

I didn't post the pathagorean theorm. You haven't learned this one sam, it's in geometry. When your dealing with a triangle and it looks like you don't have enough information to solve it. No-where did I say that it was the pathogorean theorm.
Trust me sam your going to have to memorize a heck of alot more theroms. Assuming your headed for Geometry AP.

Another way... not sure if it's correct.
```````````______________ -1/2b (+-) \/-c + (1/2b)(1/2b) ````=x
Only works if a is 1.
opposite of one half b add or subtract radical of opposite of c add one half b quantity squared.
It was on my homework last night. We were given ax(ax)+bx+c=0 and had to go from there. Out math teacher... I don't especially like him. He doesn't understand why we are unable to solve some problems. He treats us as though we are stupid and don't belong in Alg1h. Although I like math (and if I didn't why would I post this crap) I don't look foward to going to math class.
