Nergal took their dragon stones, IIRC. I don't know if that makes them mamkutes in reality or not. But try to imagine a Nilus using a dragon stone to ice all his enemies. That would SO rock. XD
A dragon gene could be recessive....but look at Sophia. One of her parents is a mamkute, and she's been living for ages.

But remember something else said....
Dragons can't use their full power in this realm and the reason for the Dragon Stone is to act as a catalyst for them so they can use some of their powers in this realm.
Without the dragon stone they lose their ability to sustain their form and also most fo their powers. But Nergal took Nils and Ninnian's dragon stones and used them to open the Dragon Gate most likely breaking them.
And besides Sophia isn't a good thing to compare with....look at Athos...he's human and he's been living for about as long as Sophia. Second in Sophia's case the dragon gene in her could be major, third she doesn't have a dragon stone unlike Idoun or Fa who have been around since the scouring and finally she practices Dark Magic, it could be very well if it isn't the blood its the magic that supports her life force......OR theres something about Arcadia which does so.

didn't Nergal also took their quitessence? I remember Ninian saying that they had even less quitessence than normal humans and to survive had to take those human forms...

Summerwolf, you just read my mind. But you know, I always wondered, if there are Ice Dragons, does that mean Earth Dragon also exist in this story? I like having all the Dragons together.
BTW the idea of half dragon Roy and half dragon Sofia is just very interesting. I'm not the saapy kind but I like to wonder what would their child be like. Hell for all we know they could have given birth to freakish monsters and destroyed the world together.

Too bad its more likely he married Lillina since they have the second highest support after Eliwood and Ninnian.
But that'd be fun....Sophia x Roy

If you think about genetics and Roy and Sophia would get children and since dragon blood has to be recessive since otherwise Roy would be a dragon of some sort..
You could get these alleles with their children:
Roy (Bb) x Sophia (Bb)
BB Bb bB bb
The B stand for human blood and the bb stands for dragon blood. Anyway, there would be a 25% chance of their child having full dragon blood (Fear my imagination and Biology knowledge).
Roy and Sophia married and getting children:
1st time:
Doctor: It's a boy!
Roy and Sophia: ^____^
2nd time:
Doctor: It's a girl!
Roy and Sophia: ^____^
3rd time:
Doctor: It's a boy!
Roy and Sophia: ^____^
4th time:
Doctor: It's a.. AAAAAAAAAH!
Dragon child: *chomps* Yum! Yum! ^___^
Roy: O__________O
Sophia: My baby! ;____;
Dragon child: *eats Roy and Sophia, after that eats everyone else and rules the world by himself*

*falls over* @.@
That's horrible!
Yet funny...
I'm sure all the dragon characteristics aren't all bundled together in one gene...

So, just wings or dragon breath or strangely dry, hard skin?

Might I add that, although it seems clear, that Ninian could not be Eliwood's wife. It could be Lyn, who knows. If Ninian was Roy's mom, what happened to her in FE6. She couldn't have died, being a dragon and all, or else she would be mentioned, would she. Hey, She could jump in to the human would and at least give Roy a hand, especially beating up all the big guys (Mamkute Power! )

It mentions in FE7 that without her dragon stone, Ninian cannot live long outside the dragon's world. So she sentences herself to an early death by staying with Eliwood. Quite sad really. So it actually makes most sense that she married Eliwood, because it would explain the absence of Eliwood's wife in FE6.

Yes...if you actually GOT them together and READ what Nils said he actually does blatnatly say that Ninnian won't live for long and that he prefer to live long (bit cruel isn't he?)

In his epilogue it says that there's a look of sorrow on his face as he leaves...but it looks like a happy grin to me. ^^;

Or maybe Eliwood's just plain bad at keeping women alive. The all could have died before FE6... Yes it is sad.

Whoever says it was Eliwoods fault?
It could have been Roy's!
It wasn't uncommon for most women to die at birth in thsoe ages.

Has anybody thought about illnesses? Eliwood's gotten a rather bad bout of something in FE6, I think. Middle ages (although Ereb seems to be related to the 15th century, in which case things are slightly better) isn't all that healthy a place to live. And for someone who's used to open air (Fiora and Lyn), a castle's living conditions (rather chilly, and not entirely sanitary at times) may've been the culprit.
