Hey, I've played through the game once getting all but two characters. One of them requires Bartre to be at a promoted high level but I have no idea how to level him up before the chapter were you just shop round. Could someone please offer some sugestions?

Always use him against normal spear users, always let him finish off an enemy, let him finish off bosses especially armour knights once he gets the Hammer and give him a Secret Book and a Speedwing to make it more easy.
I easily level up Batre this way.

If your on the chapter before forget it. Even if you promote Bartre right away I seriously doubt you will get 5 level ups. Anyway the level doesn't need Bartre to be a high level it needs one NPC to survive from the last level (If your having problems rescue one and still the person on the throne). Its just a charater on the Hector route that requires it.
As for leveling characters up what seti said. All I might add is masybe promoting him at level 10 (depends on how little/ much you using), but I don't recomend it (keeping him at level 20 means he will be better and trust me he gets very good).

Yeah, I was thinking about promoting him once he reaches level 20. I thought it would the fight easier. I just hope he doesn't kill her in one hit! ;D

I've never had that issue (it's not like he's going to hit her anyway) but if you're really worried equip him with a bow. It's not Kara you should be worried about, though...

I got lazy one time and forgot to give Bartre a Bow. She luckily had one hp left.

Heh. Since you can only get her in Hec's route. Barthol is all but neglected in my playthroughs of Eliwood's path.
But in Hec's...
I gave him the Speedwings, Skill book (I may have given him both...) and the special Axes (Hammer, halberd) and let him deal killing blows. Also in the chapter where you can get Farina, I equipped the Halberd, shoved Barthol in a forest and let the social knights just come at him. The amount of levels he gained was un-freaking-believable. In that playthrough, I got him to Warrior level 5 (the requirement for Kara) about........ four chapters before I needed to. XD

It would make sense to have Bartre equipped with a Bow anyway. Bow instead of Axe vs. Sword = no taking extra damage + any chance of evading + higher chance of not suffering a Critical = easier time for Bartre

Thanks for the help! I also wanted to know how the game decides how good your tactics are for the battle because I listen to the readings but still have gotten low scores on the tactician rating.
