While I was bored yesterday, I thought up an idea that would be cool for FE8. I always miss skills from FE4/5 but I also enjoy support from FE6/7. The problem with support is that all it does is raise your stats. It's useful but not very cool. I thought wouldn't it be cool if FE8 requires support to get different skills!? The different skills you can depend on perhaps the element of the 2 characters combined or maybe just who you have a support with. You can only use the skills if you're near/next to the person you have support with. Wouldn't that be cool, the best of both worlds! The skills can grow more powerful depending on how high your support level with that person.

My main gripe with the support system is it takes far too long to build a A support....if you play for A rank in speed you only like have time for about 2 A level supports in your entire army.

I like that idea... I like it a lot!
As for A supports, maybe they could be reduced in time to bulid to an A. But then that might make it easy...

Plus having skills only when you're next to the person you have support with does not allow you to abuse some powerful skills. Meteor Strike + Moonlight Hit anyone? That way you can't have skills unless you're next to the person. Plus this also allows you to customize your characters similar to FE4 yet with enough room for innovation.
Here's an example Florina x Hector, when they have a C for support Florina will take 1/3 the damage from arrows. With a B support she'll only take 1/2 the damage from arrows. With an A support arrows will not gain any bonus when attacking Florina. Now the level of support and who you support become even more important.

Or a sort of special attack or capacity, that can be great ! A new element attack with a magician, or for long distance....... Hum, there is a lot of possibilities.... (but I don't understand the support system yet..... )

That'd be interesting but I don't think it could be pulled off on the GBA....it'd have to be a GCN game imo....a system like that would have a winning formula for a top GCN S-RPG but it might be mroe than the GBA is capable of.

Oops my mistake... I got it switched around. But I don't see how this can't be pulled off on GBA. It's not a graphical problem, all they have to do is program. Hell they could do it on SNES if they thought of such a feature.

Its more to do with the GBA cartridge limits.....
FE7 is already stretching the capabilities of that little cartridge o' wonder. Its not so much the consoles problem but more the cartridge. Its a cartridge and still has limits even if they are high ones it can go over or too near to that limit.

I honestly don't understand what you mean. Limits as in megs? FE7 only uses 128 megs, the biggest GBA cart can go up to 256 megs. Unless you're talking crazy fancy 3D ploygon drawing, the GBA can handle anything especially something as simple as making support talks work with skills. This feature does not strain the CPU in anyway. It not like trying to make a side scrolling fighter with 300 characters on screen and no slow down. That the GBA can't do.

I mean rather for you have to leave some memory spare or else the game won't work as well or they might have to cut down on save slots....
But meh....I just wodner what FE8 will be like.

FE4 allows you to pair people with different skills and the game had 4 save slots.

Eh, kind of a Monster Skill (FFT refrence, sorry) thing.. If one dies, the other could recieve a hell of a power boost, or possibly... Team Attacks. ^_^

There's already a team attack in Fire Emblem. It's called the Triangle Attack. It's been a tradition since the very first game.
