The Black Company and its numerous sequels, by Glen Cook. Very dark, gritty stuff, and I found it to be a welcome change after reading too much high fantasy. Although I admit it dragged a bit in the middle of the series. Whats it about?

Mmm, to make a long story short...once upon a time there was a badass evil dude called the Dominator, who had a badass evil wife known as the Lady, and ten badass evil servants known collectively as the Taken. A heroine called the White Rose showed up and sealed them all away. Way after this happens, the Lady and some of the Taken return, and the Dominator is still struggling to bust out of his bonds. Some people start a resistance and go searching for the reincarnation of the White Rose, who will lead them to victory and make the world safe once again. Except the series isn't about those people. ^_~ The series focuses on the Black Company, a band of mercenaries working for the Lady and the Taken. And...things get complicated quickly, and there's so much side-swapping that I really can't say much more--partly because it would be spoilerific and partly because it's hard to keep it all straight. ^^;

Ecspecily from some of the crap I've read.

It's within their/his/our rights to believe so. After all, dragons seem to be absent, that's inegable. You can't say anything with a few pictures of artworks and basic screenshots if there'll be dragons or not. After all if you see FE6 and FE7 general full-artworks (like here - link), you don't see a dragon exept a wyvernrider, but nothing can say about this, so it's still really possible.

You can't say anything... I can. After all, I didn't say that the dragons ARE absent, but that they SEEM to be. I have the impression that, instead of them, FE8 will have the beastfolk. Got "first impression"? That's all about it.

Yeah you're right but my english is pitiful and your post is the one who I would quote it for say that..... But all I want to said is we can't be sure of things like "oh my god a catgirl ! this game will be bad !" or some kind of generalization..... For this we're agree.

You see, my issue about the catgirls isn't that the game will be bad because of them. It's just that it isn't FE tradition. After all, Breath of Fire has catgirls and I like it. ...huh?

I see a lot of talk in here about how the mamkutes are FE tradtion, because they're in 4/7 of the installments. This means that there are 3 FE games without them. Are these three therefore not Fire Emblem-like? Does the sheer fact that they're adding something different to #8 make it not Fire Emblem-like? If it takes place on a different continent, why do we assume that the mamkutes will be there?
*warning: application of logic to videogames ahead*
I'm going to assume that there is a formidable impasse between the continents, given that they're definable as continents. Therefore, uness these mamkutes are capable of multiple days of sustained flight with no food, (which could be the case -- I'm not well versed outside SNES FE) I would expect them NOT to be able to travel between continents. The only other way they could be on this new continent is if the mamkute race is older than the current geographic boundaries.
Now, I'll suppose that they got on board this continent before it floated off into the sunset. Considering the rate of tectonic drift on Earth, I'm willing to bet that the continents have been separated for a good long while, biologically speaking. This would inevitably result in vast differences between the mainland mamkutes and the bunch we find here. (They could try to preserve the original bloodline, but that would result in inbreeding, and thus major differences. For an example of this, try looking at the histories of the British monarchy.) We don't know how these differences will manifest themselves. Depending on how mamkutes came into being in the first place, they could very well have changed what creatures they transform into. I would not be surprised to find out that these beastmen are somehow related to the mamkutes. (either by the method described above, or created by the same magic, if that's how mamkutes were made in the first place)
That being said, I'm not at all disturbed by the addition of neko. On the contrary, I'm intrigued. How are they going to relate them to the rest of the world?
*end of logic*
On another note, does the picture strongly remind anyone else of KO Seiki Beast (a.k.a. KO Century Beast)?
Has anyone here even seen KO Seiki Beast?

As well as felines and griffons... I just hope it doesn't become a zoo. ><

oddballs are good. I hope this game is longer and has a more complicated story than FE6 and FE7.
