Barthol : No, no no. No matter how you try to hide it, I know! You (he uses Kisama, which means he considers Renault to be his enemy already) may wear those clothes of yours, but I see the strength in your arms! Who knows, perhaps you're concealing a grand amount of bloodshed in your days! There is that. Is that what he says in the Japanese one? Because in the English one, he says something about Sundays.

Yep. That's what it says.
Quite a number of dialogues were changed, though not as such as to screw the basic meaning over. Some for the better, some for the worst. I think they had too many translators working on it. =P

Ahhhh, I see! You're quite right, Summer...apparently, they did not intend for the Eliminean church to bear such similarities to Christianity in the original Japanese ^^;;; One reason I can think of for changing the lines is that in the West, many people are likely familiar with the practice of heading to church on Sundays, so maybe that was just another way they tried to get it to be more palatable to Western tastes.
On another note, I plan to write a fanfic bout this favorite character of mine...since I only understood the American version of the game, I wonder, would it be alright if I used the American version of the Eliminean church? I want to fill out the Eliminean Church's beliefs and practices, and if those are already similar to a religion I know a lot about, it would make my job easier ^_^

For the purposes of this discussion, though, knowing what religions have Sabbath on Saturday is pretty much irrelevant.

If you ask me, Gunny, I'd say no because I'm the 'original canon' fan.
But I doubt it'd matter to the English audience. Just don't overdo the Christianness, and it should be fine. (I define overdo by whether it sounds like preaching or not. In that case, I know a few people would rather move on to other fics)

Ahhhh, I see! Thank you very much, Summerwolf! I would actually love to use the original canon, but unfortunately, I lack the same mastery of the Japanese language you posess ;__; Fortunately, from what you've told me, the English translation has a few spots on it, but if I use it, it's not as if I'll be comitting original-canon rape, the translation's not *that* bad, right? ^^ And, er, Sam767, while I greatly appreciate your participation in the discussion as well as the fact that you're interested enough in what I have to say to respond to it, I did say *mass* on Sundays, I said nothing about the Sabbath. Plenty of religions have a designated day of rest and prayer, but as far as I am aware, only Christian faiths have a designated day of prayer on Sundays and a specific congregation called a "Mass" on that particular day ^_^ It is an interesting thing about the Sabbath, however...I used to have a friend who was a seventh-day Adventist, if memory serves, and she told me that the Seventh-Day Adventist branch of Christianity designated Saturday as their Sabbath day. Just an interesting tidbit of information for the edification of anybody reading this
