Best thing to do is just keep Tania next to Dagduar and head up the middle staying away from walls and upto the left corridor out.
With some luck if you only use your round to mmove or heal than Dagduars Wrath will clear a path for you.

Tanya needs to be level 8? Crap; she's only at like 3 or 4, and neither of them have medicine bags. Dagudar always dies, but sometimes when I get lucky they decide to capture Tanya instead of kill her.

If they capture her than thats okay, you can rescue her in Ch-19 Gaiden but its very hard...the boss is a very powerful boss with a Blizzard spell and its a escape chapter as well so you've got a chance of over 5 units being put to sleep.

First thing first... Is Tania level 8 or higher and has a medicine bag? If shes not than restart the entire game or don't bother saving her. Its near impossible to save Tania and Dagduar unless Tania is around level 8 and both ahve a full medicine bag each. Secondly for characters I highly suggest fast units....and Rivis has to come, you get some really good stuff from the chest here. You want to dodge alot as well from those poison weapon users and archers in the walls so units like Othin, Felgus, Finn, Asvel...generally anyone whos fast and or has a ranged attack and at least one healer Nanna is most recomended. Also bring a few chest keys unless you want to waste alot of time opening all the chests with just Rivis. I go to have to disagree about that I usually have tania at lv 4. I just place them close to the wall towards the bottom so that the enemies that try and take tania hostage will get shot at my asvel and I have Dagduar equiped with a throwing axe to take care most of them.

More or less Tania will get trounced near everytime and thats a very time wasting tactic.

I always level up Tania a bit even if I'm not going to use her with this game you rarely leave things to chance you have to try take control of as much as you can.

That's what I thought of doing, but there's one problem: Asvel can't come in this chapter. Neither can much of my other people with long-distance attacks.

Ah fatigue where would we be without it? It stops you abusing strong characters but causes headaches in the long run... and in certain situations like this.

Fatigue makes you think before you use. I wish they kept fatigue in FE6 and 7. It would have made the game a bit more challenging.
Anyway I never had Tania at level 8 either and they manage to do fine. I really can't remember the exact tactic that I use but I believe it was something like back Tania into the corner and let Dadar stand next to her leaving the enemies with only one area to attack Tania with.

For every battle, every so many squares you move, every magic/stave in magic users case you use you gain fatigue.
When your fatigue rating in your status screen exceeds your HP your character is exhausted and KO'ed for the next chapter and has to rest for one chapter.
