That FE5 is the only game where axe users were good. I mean more then a single one. Normally I don't use axe users in any of the other FE games except for Lex in FE4. But in FE5 they had something new. Because of there high builds they were able to capture most of the units. Even if they can't hit most of the time (atleast in other FE games) they were quite good at capturing. It's one of the reasons why we really need capturing back. If they don't I don't think i'll be using almost any axe users in the next FE game unless either A. The main charecter is an axe user which is highly unlikely ore B. There is an axe user that is just godly.

Well, FE7 had a damn good axe user-Hector. Also, Barthol is pretty good, that he is...

I know about him even though I haven't played much of FE 7 as im waiting for the US release. It's just that axe users are generally slow making them easy to hit and also inaccurate. After ive gone through about 4 chapters on just about any FE game it seems like there won't be any axe users except for maybe a boss that have more then a 30 percent chance of hitting me.

FE5 had useful axe guys for a reason,
in FE3, lances were the most common weapon, your armor knights used lances exclusively and there was a powerful spear called the Gladius
in FE4, the focus switched to swords, with your armor knight being a sword armor
in FE5, the next logical step was axes. Axes became useful (although later in the game, the other weapons became on equal level) and Othin remains the most useful axe user ever (he's considered the best unit in the game). Also, your armor unit was an axe armor.
in TearRing Saga, the emphasis switched to bows! Lennie is the best unit in the game, being a bow fighter who gains INCREDIBLE stats and also movement points! Holmes, also, was a lord who used bows.
But of course, FE6 and FE7 ruined the trends, then again I dont' think they can really make an FE game that focuses on magic or on staffs...
Anyway I don't consider Hector to be that useful, and I hate using the regular axe guys in FE6/7, except for the pirate in FE6 (I forget his name) and Gonzalez.

Well, axe-users aren't that bad in FE6/7 - they just aren't spectacular like in FE5. Although they are kind of inaccurate, they are great for taking down dragons and armors. Their high-strength helps cut through the high-defense of dragons/armors, and they also get an advantage since armors and dragons usually use spears. The axe guys are also useful against social knights with spears (especially if you have a pole-axe.)
And Warriors can be killer archers. Although they may not always attack twice, they usually have absurdly high strength and good accuracy with bows.
What I'm really disappointed with in FE6/7 are the Sword Masters. Sure, they get a nice critical boost, but the Hero's almost always turn out to be more useful.

I'm not big on axe users either in FE6... heck, I didn't even use Gonzales or Geese very much. Douglas isn't bad with an axe, though being a promoted unit, I didn't use him too much.
As for swordmasters... Fir was very useful. Her speed maxed out long before she reached lvl 20. :P Her skill skyrocketed too, so even using heavier weapons, she was pretty good. I didn't promote Dieck or Ogie though, and I didn't take Ekidona's route, so I don't have a Hero and have no idea what their typical stats are. :P
Warriors DO make good archers.. or Barthol did, anyway. The archers I found really useful though were the nomads/nomadic troopers. Sin And Sue got some pretty damn good stats for me. ;)

Anybody noticed how all the best Axe users come from FE5, FE7?
Let see the good ones...
Othin, Hector, Gonzales, Geeze, Lex, Barthol, Halvan, Dalshien, Douglas, Brighton, Bashi, Darts, Hawkeye....
Wow thats pretty pathetic...you can actually count them up...' _ ' And I imagine the FE: Gaiden ones couldn't be much better

Am I the only guy who uses Berzerkers in FE6/7? It's also like having more Othins in your party, well almost. The Berzerkers were toned down in FE7 but still pretty powerful. As far as I can remember, there are NO axe users at all in FEG.

As far as I can remember, there are NO axe users at all in FEG. There were, the enemy only "thiefs". The only Axe there was, was Axe. axes got a turn around from fe5 onwards thanks to the bulid stat (it meant axe uses would usually hit in one of their 2 attavks). They weren't too bad in fe1 (NES) due to the hammer having 43 uses but then again when people like Daros had 0% growth in skill and it being at 2... In fe6/7 Pirate -> Berserker or Paladin are definetly the best axe users high skill and berserkers get a lovely critical bonus Warriors arn't bad with Dorcas and Bartol turning out good. Gonzales is just a strength machine his stats are a lot less balanced than Geese. fe6 swordmasters too good fe7 swordmasters not good enough. You can please the fans. Still i'm starting to like these axes...

Actually, in most FEs so far, ally Axe users (not including Generals or other units who get to use Axes) actually have among the best Physical Defense growth. Considering NO weapons will have their sharpness triple vs. any of them (with the exceptions of Rex and Johan in FE4, but they're mounted anyway, but they take extra damage from nothing else besides the stinking Knight Killers), they only have to worry about magic attacks and powerful physical attacks once you build them up. Of course, in FE1, that makes Saji, Maji, and Barts (the last of whom ended up with 15 Physical Defense (the same as Banut with his Fire Dragon Stone!!) in my TQ file, and he got there right around Chapter 9 too) rather useful, since nearly everybody takes the same amount of damage from magic spells until they're given Amulets, and Banut's insane Physical Defense is naturally useful for quite some time as long as he isn't ripped apart by magic, a powerful weapon or a Dragon Killer.

....
I forgot all about Paladins. Rats. Yeah, they're good as far as I can tell, but I honestly haven't used axes very much with my paladins. (The only paladin I've even used at ALL is Noah. Uh.. his axe skill is still E.)
Swordmasters got toned down in FE7 much in the same way as berserkers, right? I think they brought the swordmaster's critical % to 15% from 30...
Juigi has a point about the physical defense though... I just don't pay enough attention to the physical defense stat enough. :P Though I have to admit, Milady's actually the one with the highest physical defense for me...

Paladins are bloody awesome with Axes I had Percival and Lance running around with Killer Axes and Killer Lances and Killer Swords. Got both Lance and Sword upto S and Axe upto A.... Paladins get pretty decent build plus have high speed and skill so they are very good with Axes which gives them a major power boost.
