Star Ocean got a few name changes when it crossed, too. The manga art still spells Claude as Crawd, you know.
I make a huge fuss out of names because it's important. You said so yourself, the references are extremely important in FE4. It keeps you in the knowing of what things are influenced from where, thus giving you a hint of the culture behind the names.
And I will gladly debate with you about how Geiborg is the best spelling ever. Gae Bolg sounds much better in my opinion. More classic. And since they still spell some names correctly in there, and others are corruptions close enough that we'd get it.....it's probably what they intend, too.
I'm not blaming anyone for the names. What I'm trying to say is what we can do about it. Tell me, if Boo used Gae Bolg in the game, will it make you more used to it, or would you still think Geiborg is the best name ever?

About Crawd/Claude, I know that. I've got lots of pictures of Crawd where there's its romaji spelling. The names of the Ten Wise Men were also completely changed from Japanese version to English version... T_T
Maa, have I ever said that Geiborg is the best name ever ? I don't think so. I told that I PREFER that spelling over Gae Bolg... I wasn't that definitive ! T_T
There's also another thing I'm sure I have said before, is that I actually like Gae Bolg spelling... After all, that suits well, in your fics and Iris' that I read... (And by the way, I'd like to tell you to both of you that your fics were wonderful ~o~ You sure have a real talent... Hope there will be other fics in the future, as excellent as the ones you already did ! "~^)
As for Boo's names... Not that sure. You know, for example he used the "Mistolteen" and the "Tailfing" spelling. And if you remember enough my topics, you already know that I prefer "Mistoltin" and "Tylfing" spellings...

It's not always in complete reference to the actual mythologies. The creators of the game will put in the actual names if it sounds good, but if there was a weapon called Pooplatter I'll guarantee you they're gonna change it to something else. Fitting the context of the game comes before whether it's the correct spelling or not. Still, it is better if both can be done at the same time so my vote is on Gae bolg.
Gungnir and Narga are out of the question...they're too famous to spell it any other way.

'Kay, for Gunguneel, I have to admit that, unlike Geiborg, isn't the best spelling ever... Matte... Summie, I understand now, by reading again my posts, why you think I've said that Geiborg is the best spelling ever... My sentence is written very badly. What I wanted to say here, is that I'm concious that Gunguneel is VERY VERY far from being the best spelling ever... Unlike the Geiborg spelling, which I prefer a little better than Gae Bolg, I'm willing to change the Gungnir spelling I use. THIS is what I wanted to say...

Hmm I just notice I didn't vote. Anyway I like Tyrfling the best. I'd vote Narga but that's too cheap.

If we're going to be mythologically correct, I'd say Tyrfing. XD
(But then, I HATE Ares)

I think I voted Narga... I voted a really long time ago. Argh, what is it with FE that they have repetition of faces like, Shagall=Muhammed, Eltosian=Ares.

Eltosian's face is not the same as Ares, and they're father and son.
I can see your point though. I think I saw Papiyon or however you spell the dragon knights leader in Chapter 3 at least 7 times.

7 times?? When? Oh I remember the boss in FE1 appeared around 4 times in the first four chapters.

Well let's see. He was the leader of the last set of cavalry in Chapter 2, the leader of dragon knights in chapter 3, the sub-leader of dragon knights in chapter 5, Andrey's son (Slader was it?), and then he shows up like every chapter after chapter 7.

Oh yes, there are many clones in FE4.
Harold = Coruta = Lideel = Magorn = Musar = Papilion = Zain... Sandima = Baran = Judah = Yupheel = Zagam... Coutozov = Cuvuli = Dagon... Phillip = Fisher = Kanatz = Maikov...
And they're just a fraction of them...
One wonders what's so special about Ovo that he gets a portrait all to himself...
[EDIT]
André's son, Scorpio was a clone of André. Slayder had a portrait that was similar, but not the same (Shumit was a clone of Slayder, I believe)
