Don't kill me but I never played FF. Breath of Fire is cool. Golden Sun is a good RPG but not the best. I'll vote later then.

What horribly small choices.
I picked BoF cause I like BoF3 more than I like MOST FF's.
Though FF, FF6, FF9, Crono Trigger, BoF3, earthbound, and all 3 Mario RPGs are my fav RPGs ever.

This topic really shouldn't be limited by poll choices.
I'll put my vote into the Dragon Quest series.

Tie between Final Fantasy and Golden Sun. Can't wait until Tales of Symphonia comes out, though.

Final Fantasy- I cannot say much about this. I have played Mystic Quest (don't kill me) and FF:VI. I'm unimpressed with both. Mystic quest is aimed at 5 year olds and I breezed though it with frameskip to the map. FF:VI iv'e yet to beat mainly because the Second part the game is horendous. Where did the briliant story go and the crazy, love to hate villain go? Also everyone just seems to be becoming a magic delivery system. Breath of Fire- I got somewhere in the first game but so many random battles. Poorly thought out battles and mostly fetch quests. Doesn't seem very accomplised to me. An example of the battles is even with the insane encounter rate you have to freely level up (rather than being able to make do with random battles). Golden Sun- Havn't played this. Sounds like another hype train, though. Split the game in half so you have to buy the sequel. So shameful I'm surprised another company didn't think of it. Oh well looks I can't vote Some Other RPGs I have played through. Ones indictated with *s are games that should not be missed. Super Mario RPG- Some fun(ny) moments but otherwise average at best. Paper Mario- Its by Inteligent Systems. It has a mario feeling to it (unlike the Mario RPG). A simple RPG to play through that even an RPG gamer will not be bored with. Treasue of the Rudras- This game needs more magic than a very interesting magic system. If the ideas were better thought out it may be good. The storyline and script are quite literely dire-log. This proves even more than Square=Excelent is a flawed analogy. *Star Ocean- An awesome RPG that tends to be overlooked because it is hard to find a cartridge copy and setting up emulation can be a pain. It has a real-time (not active time) battle sytem and reasons to play through it multiple times (you won't see every character in just one play through), characters can learn specical skills to use inside or outside battles. If you think FF:VI has the best graphics on the SNES check this game out and think again. *Tales of Phantasia- The earlier work of the Star Ocean team. A much longer experiance than Star Ocean. Even if you already played Star Ocean this won't seem at all primitive or outdated. The music score is simply amazing with an opening song (with lyrics not your usual midi stuff). Wolf team were sure ahead or time when it came to the SNES. Namco now hold the rights to the series and seem to be doing fine. Tenchi Myuo- A stratagy RPG of sorts. Based on the anime of the same name. This has to be the shortest anime RPG ever. Its a pretty good experiance if you do play it but its not really important, only bother with it if you like the anime. Chrono Trigger- A good RPG experiance expect it take you 23 Hours (or VERY close to that time). I don't see it as essential by any means. If you want slightly different from active time then youv'e come to the right place. It has a nice teamwork feature. Multiple character can put of special techs which can be very good. If youv'e played FF:CC with friends its like if you cast different spells in the same area at the same time.

Thats what I like about FF6 the freedom they give you after you get the airship in the World of Ruin. It feels great like the sense of freedom I got when both islands were available in GTA Vice City(not an RPG but still fun) and when you can travel to whichever planet you choose in Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. I like that non-linearity while still having a good story in the game probaly why those 3 are my favorite video games and will be for a long time until I play another great game that shakes my list like Star Wars KOTOR (that game toppled Namco Mueseum which I love because Galaga is one of the best games of all time I don't care what anyone says). You have to look at those types of games openminded.
That isn't to say I don't like non-linear games. I love every Final Fantasy, FE7, the Zelda series, Madden, and Super Mario World. The Last two don't even have stories and I like them( well SM World did have rescue Yoshis and Princess from Koopa Kids but its stupid).

None of those. Not if you mean the original FF anyway. RPGs I do like are Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest IV, Final Fantasy III, Super Mario RPG, Fire Emblem: Tharcia 776, Final Fantasy Tactics, Dragon Force, Tales of Phantasia and my favorite Fire Emblem: Geneology of the Holy War. I still play most of those to this day, especially Dragon Force. Awesome game.

I always want to ask why people like Chrono Trigger, because it didn't interest me at all. It was... good for the first 30 minutes, but then I got extremely bored. I did finish the game at the end, but it wasn't an enjoyable gaming experience for me.

That doesn't answer why Chrono Trigger is good.
