To make this patch compatiable with the game, place it in the same directory as your Fire Emblem 4 ROM(which must be unzipped and a valid .smc file.) and rename it to the same name as the ROM, keeping the extension as .ips. So, for example;

FE4.smc(This is your ROM.)
FE4.ips(This is your IPS file.)

And it will work properly, no extra work needed.


I've taken it upon myself to revise the current 80% translation that has been out for a little while now. I'm planning to try and do these things with it.

#- Revise the script, make it sound like the characters have personalities.. other people, such as Iris or Bardiche can help me on this, since they have good insight on these things.

#- Revise weapon names, character names, everything, so that it fits how people like it to. Arden will change back to Adan, Siguld will become Sigurd, Ira will become Ayra.. you get the point. Weapon names will be changed so that they only have the type in them(All weapons that were called Iron Bow or Steel Sword or whatever) will be shortened to only have the type of metal in them. Just like in the 25% patch.

#- Shorten everything so that it fits on the screen and doesnt make a mess. This was a really annoying pet peeve for many people in the 80% patch.

#- And HOPEFULLY, fix all of the bugs. I dont know if it's possible for me to do this, but I'll try.


I'll try my best on it, and I'll release patches of revised IPS. files here and there for your enjoyment. Dont completely thank me for doing this, either, I'm doing this because Iris liked the idea, so I decided to do it for her. ^_^; I'll also keep progress in here, if enough people want me to.

Right now, I mostly only have all the weapon and character names shortened.. it makes things look ALOT nicer, and I'm cleaning up all the garbage text.

I'm also doing something else.. which only a few FESSers know about.. but, I'll keep that a surprise.

Hi everyone, I am new here. I have a few bugs with the 80% Translation patch. I use Windows so I am unable to comply Linux's files hence I used your ISP file (my ISP to comply is snestls). After complying, I found a few problems which do not exit in Japan version (that I played without understanding what's happening) :

1- While you are attacking a Dark Mage ( arena or enemy). The screen and pictures distorted as well as the initial speed of the battle slows down( i mean after you select attack - black screen comes and have to wait for 2 mins)
2-Chapter 4:A Dance In The Sky. My dancer is unable to get the defend ring in the upper village (anything ok, i suppose you know it) due to the same problem : game is totally suspended.
3- After chapter 7, during the 3 mage sister attacked ( near lenster kingdom)... the game is completely suspended.( screen immobiled, distorted). No ways you can pass through this.

It's not my IPS patch.. I'm taking over the translation from the people that made the source code and everything, and I'm still new to this.

1 - I have a belief that the name or weapon that the enemy is using has a slight glitch, and I'm trying to find out which one is right. I'm hoping to fix this glitch, but I dont know if it's possible. This also happens with any healing staves that are used.

2 - That's a common glitch in all of the games. You must save and restart the file and keep having Sylvia enter the village, it will work sometime, trust me.

3 - You have a bad ROM dump.. because the IPS patch doesnt do anything to that part, I have tested with the 80% translation a several times, and have never run into that problem.

Thank you, now I still got stuck in chapter 7 since december last year due to the distorted screen. I download my ROM in www.cherryroms.com . So you did say that it is a dump rom, so where I can download a good one.

Um, actually, I think I had the same problem as you, but some people helped me out, so I think I can help you too.. ^^;; maybe. Have you downloaded the new Snes emulator? Because the SNES9XW one does that. The most recent one I believe is ZSNESW. That's the only reason why I think the screen would be immobilized..the other problems seem like they can happen in both emulators.. Okee..hope it works!

Heres my geusses on your secret:
Your bringing back the skills menu
You found debug mode
Your changing the credits

Anyway best of luck, I suppose you know about the class name screw ups and the weapons (no Yuria is holding the silver axe it says here). Some of the dialogues need implimeting (if you look in boos referance files theres whiole chunks of uninserted dialogue) and some need a bit of revision. Here are a few examples, finished him off and ...if that's what wish. It needs to word you inserted also fix the need fix part of one of the castle dialoges (the 2nd one in epilogue darn good convo too).

My examples were from chapter 7, one where ares tells thingny to get away from leen and when bloom is sending out tinny.

Be careful in translating the names. The amount of people weho call Leen, lynn is astonishing. Read the japanese its le (voul stress) ne. Something along those lines anyway.
