Allow me to say one thing. People. Do _not_, I repeat _not_, attempt to decompress the graphics in FE4 by hand, if you value your sanity.I'm still amazed at Jay for figuring it all out... and even more amazed with IS for compressing it in the first place. The complexity of the program which did it all must have been huge Well, I ran over the entire file with NaNa and I couldn't find the place names anywhere, so I assume they must be part of the map. I did find the data screen labels (Possession Item et al), so if anyone wants to change them I'll tell you the address. In any case, what this means is: you'd have to decompress the map, sort it all out into it's component tiles, get them ordered correctly, edit it, split it back into tiles and de-order them again, and then use a program such as IS must have used to re-compress it to, and this is the tricky part, the same size (or possibly smaller, if it's ended by a break) as it was before. Of course, we have to find the map first, but that's easy with a corruptor. Of course, you might have corrupted the decompression routines and not the actually map - but the game'd be more likely to crash in that case. Should be able to use a corruptor to find the ending scripts, too... Save a state before them, corrupt a range, load and see if it's corrupted. Repeat. I'd do it, but I really can't be bothered and I'm behind on a lot of stuff I really should be doing :/ I might end up doing it anyway. I should use a corruptor to find the levels...

But there's bigger problems yet. Specifically, SOMEBODY GET THOSE DAMN ENDING SCRIPTS OUT. =P What do you need exactly Summerwolf ? The ending scripts with Celice talking to everyone before they go, or the ending scripts of the map telling what happened to everybody on each country ? If it's the first one, I can give you the ZIP file of the screen captures of the ending -of my first game- I've done long ago... I can also do the screen caps of the ending of my second play, if you want, and also giving you my last savestates of my games. Doing the screen caps of the map's ending will be harder if it's what you're asking me, cos the text scrolls fast, and it's hard to catch the kanji/hiragana/katakana in whole... But I can do it you ask me. If you're interested by my proposition, I'll start doing this at Christmas' holidays (not before, sorry, I have lots of homework to do T_T)

She needs them to be extracted from the ROM and hacked into the patch. If it were just the text, it'd be no problem--in fact, she's already translated some of the ending. But getting that into the patch is another issue entirely.
We need a hacker. *glances around*

Mistelteinn is Hromundar's magical sword in Norse Mythology. It be nice if you could get the name as close to it as possible. Also, you could spell Baldur/Balder, Baldr. Baldr is another form of spelling for the Nordic God. (which I firmly believe is what FE4 was going for- Nordic References. It's almost undeniable fact) Saxo Grammaticus wrote "Gesta Danorum", a Latin redaction of Danish legend and mythology. In it, he tells how the brothers Hromundar and Baldr vied for the love of a woman, until Hromundar used a magic sword to kill Baldr. He mentions a "saga of Hotherus" as his source, which may or may not be the Icelandic Hromundars saga. In that relatively obscure text, the hero is Hromundar and one of the villains, Baldr. Baldr dies in a battle in which Hromundar also fights with his magic sword, Mistelteinn. Nearly everything in FE4 was ripped from Nordic Myth and the few that wasn't was ripped to closely related mythology either way. Edda, nearly every holy weapon, etc...all of it is from Norse reference. I'd also prefer Holsety be Forseti/Forsety but in the end it isn't a huge big deal I suppose. Yurius and Yuria were probably meant to be Julius and Julia, anyway... When all things are considered it just seems like it since they are both names documented in history and or mythology. Edit:- There are people who would probably be able to do what you want if you asked them. I would wait until you have some real progress on the patch, however, before bothering them about it. Aeon Genesis, Dejap, etc, etc... I know a lot of those people semi-personally and could get in touch with them maybe if you'd like. One more edit for boredoms sakes:- In Norse mythology, Tyrfing was a magical sword that King Alberich gave to Odin. Tyrfing was a cursed sword, and bore the misfortune that each time it was unsheathed, a man ~HAD~ to die. A very strange weapon to give to Sigurd and Celice, indeed... ^_^;

I'll be damned. How am I ever supposed to thank you for all that?
*nods* Progress on the revision is precisely why I haven't made an ad or something on Whirlpool. I've just done....like four chapters, and the majority of it needs to revised a few times. (What's done just to get the original meanings and speaking accents back, since the patch is sometimes....odd.) Good news on it, though. I'll be getting a laptop soon, which means I can actually spend some quality time on it. ^^
And sorry for the guest post. THis is Sunday, and none of the better computers are available. Too slow to log in for this one. =P

Well, yes.... but it wasn't always limited to other people. Maybe that's why Sigurd died. Not really, but it links well with the swords mythology at least. ^^;
I'm a huge buff on Nordic Mythology... Yes, I fill my brain with very useless knowledge by todays standards.

I love mythology myself, but considering where I live, chances of me being truly knowledgable about it are slim. -_-;;;; Books are so DAMN hard to find here. If only I could order from the internet....
I do know that one about the Tyrfing, though.

Greek mythology and ancient Chinese mythology tends to stick with me though...
What particularly sticks with me is the Stone Monkey King's fight against the Golden Monkey Demon King and also Zeus fight against Typhon who ripped him limb from limb.

God, my English teacher couldn't teach for crap. We had a Greek/Roman Mythology unit, and I think I delearned from that unit. I should try learning it myself.
As for mythological references, don't rewrite every little thing to be mythologically correct. I mean, we're used to a lot of the names, so don't kill yourself over it.
*EDIT* What's Selis/Celice's name going to be? On Nintendo's Official FE7 page, they have a little section where they overview all the previous games in the series. It's pretty good but two things caught my eye. One, they say it's "Serlis," and two, they say Marth is in FE4 and FE5...
