www.the-magicbox.com/0404/game040504a.shtml The in game stuff IMO could be better. I know it's not finaly but the way the charecters fight it's, just kind of, well I don't really like the art style. I think it could be better. I prefer the more two dimensional view. There are a few things which IMO will make a big difference in how good this game is as a whole. Capturing, if it is implemented I'll really love this game. It's IMHO obvious that those lions are primarily going to be axe fighters, they'll probably have extra high build allowing for even easier captures. IMO FE5 was just about the only game that it was worth it to train axe fighters. Theres a few exceptions but usually with how slow they are and it's not worth it. But in FE5 Axe fighters were really worth it because of there build. *prays FE 8 will have capturing*

About the in-game screenshots, remember how many changes FE6's graphics went through? It's quite possible this game will have some major graphical changes by the time it's released.
It'd be nice for capturing to come back, but don't hold your breath. You might just end up being disappointed.

I'm with Mega Man. I think the graphics look a bit too cartoony for Fire Emblem. That sort of thing may work for Zelda or Super Mario Bros., but Fire Emblem is a more serious game, and thus should have graphics that exude a more serious atmosphere.
Now, it doesn't have to be dark and gothic, like FF7. After all, from what I've played of FE 7, it does have its more lighthearted moments.

Wait a minute... we haven't even seen a moving picture of this game yet, and we're already saying "DISAPOINTMENT! UNFULFILLED TALENT! SHAME!"
Can we give this game a chance before we start looking for excuses to write it off?

I'd have to agree with superbus on this one. For once, I of all people am advocating patience! ^_^; Personally, I can't really see very much wrong with the screenshots--the one with Ike attacking the enemy soldier seems particularly well done.
To cite another example of how games can change... Anyone had a chance to look at the screenshots of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time when it was in its developmental stages? ...Now THAT is a big change from the finished product, I can tell you!

I think the game looks good. and I think that we need to give it time. because among other things the soldier and Aik had the same low hit, damage and critical which shows the battle system is not finished. I think the graphics complement the seriousness of FE.

On a more positive note, I think the title looks pretty nifty.

Can we give this game a chance before we start looking for excuses to write it off? I'm still going to get this game. I can't speak for the other critics, but I just think a different style would make the game better. On the flipside of what you said, I don't think we should just accept whatever they give us and accept it as the second coming. That's blatant, mindless, fanboyism. It's healthy to critique things and generate ideas. In any case, graphics aren't the main selling point for me. As long as the gameplay is intact, I can overlook a style I don't agree with. If the game has support conversations, plenty of characters to recruit, alternate storylines, etc., then I probably won't even care.

Stop bitching about the graphics. First off, these are just scans, and pretty horrible quality ones at that. Second, ever seen any of the movies for Tales of Symphonia? They seem to use the same type of graphics, and that game is piss-in-your-pants good. You can judge once they release the first movies.

I think this game looks promising. thats all there is to it. if they make some major changes to FE gameplay it could get ugly tho

Personally, I hope they make a few subtle changes, but I agree they shouldn't do a 180. The basic engine should be left intact, but they can add maybe an extra dimension, like FE 7 with the support conversations.
Or was that game even the first to feature support convos?

The graphics of this game don't seem bad. I like them. They had to be cell-shaded, it's the only way they could get the anime look that characters have into the battlefield. So, I like it.
Even though, so far, I hate the story with its beast people.
